Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

We have been upgraded to a winter storm warning with 3-6 inches of heavy snow predicted.

So far, thankfully, no reaction to the vaccine. My arm is a little sore, but not much at all. I am tired and have a little headache but I was also a little stressed about this and woke up at 4 this morning. Advil seems to keep it under control.

Have been watching the impeachment trial but it is starting to get to me.

I listened All day long on talk radio and by 5 o’clock I realized I had absorbed as much as I could deal with. So the dogs and I are watching a little Star Trek, not to bring up a sore subject but did you catch the weather this evening on local news, I did just before we switch the channel. Tom on WBAL just said he thinks we’re going to get a storm Saturday night -yippee.

Glad you’ve got no other side effects besides sore arm, fingers crossed that’s all you get.

QOTD : What funny/naughty thing has your pet done?

Way more naughty than funny:
One of my cats decided to explore the walls - from the inside! We'd had someone working on the drain for the tub, and he'd accessed it through a hole cut into the linen closet. Well...the closet door was left open, and in she went, between the tub and the wall. :scared1: Thankfully, once we realized where she had gone, and spent some time strategically shaking the treat bag, she did come back out - but I had awful visions of her getting stuck in there.

Yikes, PollyannaMom! That was an adventurous cat! Glad she was okay. When I read "treat bag" that reminded me of another Champ story. My family briefly lived in a house when we first got Champ until he was 3 or so. The garage was attached and you entered from the garage to the kitchen via a step. Their was space under the step that became a doggie treat stockpile! Evidently Champ would "save" extra treats right there. Such a smart and funny doggie.

Carol, so glad overall you are okay. Also hoping the sore arm will be it as far as side effects.

Keep the pet tails coming, friends :)

QOTD pollyannamom's story reminded me about almost the same thing. It wasn't funny, or naughty, it was just a case of 'curious kitty'.
phone pics 216.jpgWe had a little kitten named Belle who the neighbors found under their shed and brought to me..probably about 4 weeks old, had to feed her with an eyedropper, but she was the prettiest little thing,,and so friendly. But she would try and climb into the darndest places. She somehow got behind the vanity in the master bath one day..and it took me over an hour to get her out. Another time she managed to somehow climb up onto the windowsill in that same bathroom (which was high off the ground, she must have jumped up from the tub). Then she managed to get herself up onto one of the ceiling tiles that were in there at that time, pushed at it till it went up enough for her to fit in, and managed to get herself up into the attic. I called and called when I couldn't find her, and then noticed the ceiling tile wasn't where it belonged. She had managed to walk across a few of them, and broke and cracked a couple. I had to drag everything out of the closet in the spare room, get the ladder and get up into the attic. She was in the spot that is closed off by big pads of insulation as nothing gets put in there. She was huddled in a corner where I couldn't get to her, wasn't safe to walk across. She was crying and meowing so pitifully. I kept calling her gently and trying to coax her to move,,and she finally tiptoed across one of the rafters and came to me. She was scared, I was scared, and just happy to have her back safely on the first floor! The picture is how tiny she was when I first got her. She died a few years ago , but she was one of the prettiest cats I ever had.

Cute stories! I was feeding our outdoor cats one day in an attached shed. Came back out a few minutes later and saw them eating and started going back in the house when suddenly my brain caught up with my eyes. I thought to myself, "we don't have a whitish/gray cat" It wasn't a cat, it was a possum 🤣

When my son was litttle and still in a high chair, my mom was visiting for the day. at lunch time, some cheerios and apples fell off the tray, my dog. Quickly .snatched up whatever fell from the tray. She then just sat there waging her tail underneath , waiting for more food to drop. Later that evening, my son was eating mashed potato’s and had some peas, Sure enough he dropped a few peas. The dog came running over, pushed the peas around with her nose, but would NOT eat them. My mom found this hilarious, since she had witnessed my dog eating many food items over the years.

I hope things are going well with everyone who had things going on in their lives and families!

We took our two German Shepherds swimming in the ocean one day, life vests and all. It was a hot day so we were just hanging out floating around. When I noticed something shiny and small floating in the water; then another, and another, etc. I took a closer look and realized it was hard candy! And hmm, the same brand I buy and have in my living room! 😳 I mentioned it to DH and it took us a few minutes to figure out, but we realized the big female had apparently been swallowing ocean water while she was swimming and it was coming out the other end! AND that she must’ve raided the candy dish before we left! 🤣 Gross, I know! But we’ve been laughing about it for many years!

@apirateslifeforme, so sorry to hear about your FIL, .

@easyas123, one of the books I dearly loved as a child was 365 Bedtime Stories by Nan Gilbert. It had a page story for each day of the year about the children and their families on What a Jolly Street. It actually belonged to my sister but I was the reader. Over the years I lost track of that book but never forgot it. I enjoy visiting antique stores and looked for it for years until I found it a couple of years ago. I was ecstatic! I found out later that I can buy it on Amazon but in paperback form. The original hardback has a map of the street where all the children lived.

I am so glad LJ and Lily are home!!!!!

We're in for some pretty cold weather for us. The wind chill today was 19 today, never got out of the low 30's. Monday is supposed to be really chilly with a high of 29 and a low of 3. We're expecting freezing rain tonight and tomorrow, possibly snow on Monday. DD was told to bring her laptop home just in case school got canceled tomorrow.

The grandkids second week of no preschool is almost over. We are all looking forward to getting back into the preschool swing. This week has been especially hard since Lil Joe spent last weekend with his dad. There is always an adjustment period after those visits. Today was better but the last two days have not been so good.

Good snowy morning QUACK family. Just finished shoveling an hour's worth of 4" of snow that fell last nite. And it wasn't light and fluffy, guess that's what they meant when they predicted 'heavy' snow. I think the snow is over with, at least for now.

Our ISP had a major outage last nite. We were watching Chicago Med on tivo, and half way through it just stopped. Checked and it was set to record the whole thing. Switched back to live tv only to find messages saying trying to find signal on all channels. Came in here, and the router only had 2 lights on. Picked up the phone (landline) and nothing. Grabbed the cell phone and called..after I entered our phone #, got a recording saying 'I see there's an outage in your area, is that why you are calling?" I answered yes and it said they were working on it and would be fixed asap. Well that was at 8:30 and everything was still down at 2 am. When I got up at 4, all was back to normal. That's a rarity for it to happen, but I guess it could happen anytime. For some reason , we could still watch anything that was already recorded, so we watched another show and went to bed.

I never even heard the plows go by overnite, and out here, they run back and forth every half hour, as this road leads to a major highway.

At least I got the snow cleared, and since we went to the store yesterday, we don't need to go out for at least a couple of days. Hubby is still asleep, all outside cats are fed, given warm water and can walk back and forth without walking through all the snow. Inside cats are all asleep, and I am going to join them and rest my back.

Have a lovely morning all!

Morning everyone,

We are getting snow again. I am so tired of shoveling and arguing with my husband he can't shovel. Of course he had to see a new cardiologist yesterday., his original one died the beginning of January. Turns out I now know someone who died from COVID. I was sad to hear that but I do like this new drs. staff in the office, hated the staff in the other office. The new dr. seems very nice, agrees that Jim has a more severe form of AFib but thankfully the meds are working well.

Lynxstch Glad to hear Lily is home.

LJ is doing great and reminds me of my grandson when he was a baby. I know that their looks change a lot but he has my Jay's eyes. They sent me some pictures and he is so alert. I still can't see him in person but I am respecting their wishes. He did have breathing issues so any kind of illness could be hard on his little lungs right now, not just the fear of Covid. Even better news they finally found an apartment. They move in next week and I am really happy for them. Not the greatest neighborhood but it's OK to get their start.

As far as pet stories go it is hard to remember them all. I have had pets my entire life. Right now I have 3 cats and a dog. Probably the funniest thing I can think of involves my youngest cat Adso and my dog Chewbacca. Chewie is a fat little Chug (Chiuahua/Pug mix) that Adso has mistaken for his mother. Adso tries to nurse off the dog: her ears, her shoulder, etc. He tries really hard too. Poor Chewie just lays there with a look on her face like REALLY? The funny thing is that Adso is almost 18 months old and way beyond needing to nurse.

I don't have a lot on my agenda today, finishing painting the kitchen and shoveling top the list. Hope everyone has a great day.

I mentioned it to DH and it took us a few minutes to figure out,

That story had me laughing out loud in my office this morning!

Couple of inches here already, with more to come., but not that much. Made it in to work with no drama, slipping or sliding. Husband has plowed the office parking lot twice, but it's coming down so much that they can't keep up.

Directv can be a bit twitchy in weather like this, so it went out this morning. I usually leave the TV on for the mutts, so instead of reruns on BBCA they got the 4 hour version of Fellowship of the Rings on off of the DVR.

Have a good morning everyone -

Belle was our rescue English breed Black Lab. She had been rescued from a puppy mill, and we got her at 7 1/2. She was always hungry, and never quite house trained. Her life had been in a crate.

My uncle passed and we traveled to NJ from OH to clear out his apartment and arrange for funeral, etc. He had a sweet tooth for Tootsie rolls. We left two unopened bags in the common area of his home, but kept one unopened bag for DH in the car. We spent about 1/2 hour with funeral person, came to car, to find the Tootsie Roll bag opened and empty. We called our vet in Ohio and learned Tootsie Rolls don’t contain chocolate that could be fatal to dogs. We were told to watch her, however, for problems.

So, for about a week, Belle’s BMs had a lovely chocolaty fragrance and a patina of white around each pile because she had eaten all the wrappers which probably contained wax. She had not eaten the plastic bag that the Tootsie Rolls came in.

I have enjoyed reading these stories.

Good morning Quackers!

We woke up to ~3 inches of really pretty snow. One advantage of us both being retired is we don't have to worry about getting out of the house. DH likes his snow blower so will probably clear the driveway later.

Vaccine update - nearly 24 hours after and just a sore stiff shoulder at the injection site. No other symptoms.

I'll share 2 other pet stories as these appear to be entertaining.

My larger rescue golden, Raleigh, was an escape artist who had the wanderlust. We had reinforced the fence all the way around the yard and never let the dogs outside for very long without supervision. (No question about how he became a stray.) One day I couldn't find him in the yard. I started to panic when I realized that some how he had squirmed under the shed, probably following a rabbit. It was a very small opening and crawl space under the shed. Dogs can not army crawl backwards and there wasn't space for him to stand up or turn around. I was running through scenarios in my head of having to have the shed jacked up to get him out. Finally, somehow, he got himself out and was covered with decaying leaves and who knows what else. After that, we blocked access all the way around the shed with cider blocks.

Second story is inspired by @sparkle78. When the kids were each little and in the highchair stage of eating, the dogs (2 shelties at that time) took up residence under the highchair at meal time. It wasn't until we went to my parents' house for dinner and didn't take the dogs that I realized how truly messy the kids were when eating.

I usually leave the TV on for the mutts, so instead of reruns on BBCA they got the 4 hour version of Fellowship of the Rings on off of the DVR.
I hope they enjoy the story.

I am loving the pet stories. I did shovel but tweaked my knee so I think painting is out. It really isn't a lot to do though just 2 walls and the ceiling. I can't access behind the refrigerator yet and half the walls will be covered by cabinets so I don't have to paint everything on them. 2 walls will be cabinets and backsplash. One nice thing about a smaller kitchen.

I thought of some interesting stories from my pets when I was a child. We had a shepherd mix that I adored. One night my mom made a roast for dinner, a rarity as my dad was in night school and money was tight. We got a lot of potatoes and vegies for dinner since Bullitt decided the roast looked really good and she ate half of it.

When I was dating my husband we had a Cockerpoo, before they were a designer dog, he was just a shaggy little mutt to us. We came home one day and there were brown puddles everywhere with what looked like maggots in them. I started gagging and my mom wasn't doing much better. She was in the kitchen when she yelled she was going to strangle Hobo. He had gotten into the Easter candy and eaten TWO pounds of chocolate covered coconut eggs. Thankfully me husband had a stronger constitution and cleaned it all up for us. One of the reasons I knew he was a keeper.

I did have a dog that liked to eat light bulbs. That wasn't fun but milk soaked bread helped a lot dealing with that. Thankfully she outgrew that habit.

Good Morning Quackers!

I am sorry it sounds like another super snowy day for many of you. Prayers you are able to stay cozily home! I am so glad you stocked up on supplies yesterday, Lynn.

Kirby. what a great book memory! So glad you found a new copy. Hug for Lil Joe. Changes in scene or routine, are never easy for any of us, especially kiddos!

Hugs, TazDev on your DH. Yay for LJ. Yikes to light bulb eating dogs! That's scary. Glad he outgrew that. :) to Bullitt.

Loving all the pet stories.

Carol, so glad you are doing okay. I hope your shoulder feels better as the day goes on.

Hugs to all!

Watching Hogan talk about the vaccine now. He is wearing a mask and the comments on Facebook are complaining that deaf people who lip read can't see his lips. The man can't win.
