Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning and Happy November everyone! Gray and dreary looking, temp will only go to low 50's again. They say by Thursday we will have a warm spell of almost 70 for 4 days. I just put a crockpot full of homemade beef stew on to simmer all day. Packers are playing today, so hubby will be watching football all afternoon. I hope everyone that needed to turned their clocks back an hour. So much for getting an extra hour sleep. I usually wake at 4:20., today I woke at 3:18 and couldn't go back to sleep. I will need a nap by noontime, lol
Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Hello All!
Hope your start of the next to last month of this never ending year is good for you.
Sold my 8 qt slow cooker and replaced it with an 8 qt electric pressure cooker and 2 qt slow cooker. Think this setup will be better for me now.

Chopped up a ton of peppers and onions last night and they are now simmering down in the pressure cooker. The idea is to portion and store them in the freezer for different types of stews, soups, and entrees. I like to get tedious work done and over with and this is a good start. Think I’m going to try and make a Thai soup with coconut milk today. It’ll be my first try so wish me well.

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween. We had 12 kids total. Our biggest year was a little over 100 and we usually got around 60. What a change! We have so much candy leftover. DH will take it to work and put it in a bowl. I usually bring some into work too but not many people work in the office any more. It would just sit there.

Jasper is hanging in there. He coughs alot in the morning when he is moving around and I think just clearing out everything from the night. He is having GI issues due to the antibiotic so I have him on chicken and rice. Our vet was kind enough to call to see how he was doing. She saw he was discharged from the emergency hospital. She says he is like a cat and has nine lives. She recommended forti flora, a probiotic to treat his GI issues. I just got it from Amazon and he got his first dose. His eyes are brighter and he has a bit more energy. I wish the cough would stop but it can take 6-8 weeks to recover. Patience is a virtue but it is not one I have! He goes back for an x ray and check up a week from tomorrow. He is supposed to just rest, go out for his business, and that's it. No walks or playing. Just taking it day by day.

I have a chicken enchilada soup in the crock pot. The kitchen smells so good.

Our November trip to Disney is off as the money went to take care of Jasper. We were close to deciding not to go anyway due to too much money for not as good as experience. Sometimes the decisions make themselves. We are doing a staycation. We will do some Christmas shopping, clean up downstairs and order an exercise bike, clean out the pantry, clean out the book shelf, and other assorted errands that are holiday related. I want to be in a good place for the holidays after that week off. Our next trip to Disney is for May 2021. Hopefully things will be better and Jasper can go to the kennel once again and play with his doggie pals.

I hope Tina is busy with some good changes in her life. Looking forward to hearing from her. She started a great thread.

Happy November!

Keep the faith,Jasper!
Glad you found some things to do during your organizing staycation but don’t forget to set aside some hedonistic time too :-)

Continued paws and prayers for Jasper! During Champ's last few months what he really came to love besides scrambled eggs (which he always liked) was a Gerber's baby food! I don't remember what they were called but looked like small rounded (but long) pieces of perhaps mini hot dogs. These were chicken. He loved them and even the juice or whatever they came in. I do not remember the chicken or even the jar necessarily being this big (keep in mind this was 21 years ago) but I found: https://www.gerber.com/gerber-lil-sticks-chicken-sticks

I may have asked this before on here or maybe it was in the Advent Calendar thread. I am looking for a religious with scripture Advent Calendar that is glitter free! I've started to look on Christian Book (will do so more later or tomorrow) Most of them all say silver glitter border, I just am not a glitter fan because it gets everywhere! I appreciate any suggestions. Keep in mind, this would have to be ordered from either CB, Amazon, or Walmart.

In addition to organizing I want to make an oooey gooey toffee cake while on staycation. That is my decadent treat. I also plan on cooking things I usually don't because I try to eat healthy the rest of the year. There aren't any vacation calories. :) Plus I am planning reading time and Hallmark movie time. I watched some Christmas movies last night and am now hooked on them.

Happy Weekend/Halloween/November all!

Friday we had a bad day. Josh has gotten extremely whiney about online school and I have to keep at him to come get online, sit down, pay attention, etc. My mother started screaming at me later in the evening about how "all you do is yell at him all day" and I spent the evening up in my bedroom. Nobody helps me one bit with this. And I have NEVER yelled at Josh. I may have raised my voice a bit to get him to pay attention, so that he knows that I mean business, but I have never YELLED at him.

We did get about an inch of snow on Friday, and it was enough to make the soccer club postpone the final season's game yesterday morning. We will be playing this coming Saturday, when it's supposed to be 60 degrees out. Josh did play out side with his Daddy for a bit...I think they had a snowball fight. Then they put on their costumes and we went to visit my in-laws so they could see Josh in his costume. I typically don't go for expensive store-bought costumes but I wasn't sure what would happen this year, so we bought Josh a Frankenstein's Monster costume at Target. Even though he was already the monster when we first took him trick-or-treating in 2017 (I had found a used costume at Once Upon a Child for $6 that year!). He didn't mind; he is OBSESSED with Frankenstein's Monster. DH finally put his authentic Magnum PI Hawaiian shirt to good use (even if it's too small) and wore that along with a blue baseball cap (he drew a paper D to put over the logo, as he doesn't own an actual Detroit Tigers hat). He'd been planning to shave his beard and leave his mustache, but I reminded him that he had to wear a mask anyway, so why bother. Then I thought, why not just wear a paper mask and I'll draw a mustache on it? So that's what I did! It was kinda cute...

After we left my in-laws', on our way back home we decided to stop at our fire station, where they were having a "drive-thru trick-or-treat." There was hardly anyone there at the moment, but Josh enjoyed driving through the big garage (they'd moved all the trucks into the parking lot) and he got a big bag with candy, a coloring book and crayons, a pencil and eraser, and a bracelet. As we got back to our street, we saw plenty of people out already and surprisingly, lots of house lights on. So we put the car away and immediately went back out. We only went up our street, not around the block like most people did, but a good 3/4 of our street had something. Either people did answer the door (with masks, telling the kids to take 3-4 pieces), or they had a bowl outside. At our house, we did the bowl thing; we'd bagged up 3-4 pieces of candy and put the bags in a bowl outside. We didn't get as many kids as I would have liked, we have too much candy left, IMO, but it was still good.

I didn't get an extra hour of sleep this morning. Woke up with a raging headache around 4:30 (I ALWAYS wake up with a headache between 3-4:30), and then our cat started bothering us at 5:22 a.m. to get out of bed so he can have his "spot" and sleep all day. (We're usually both up by 6:15, and clearly Dio is unaware of the time change). We hung out at home today...I had to force Josh to do his music assignment, then he went outside with Daddy and Grandma to clean up the few leaves that we had in our yard. Then the boys watched the Patriots game and now we're just chilling before dinner.

Sleepwear QOTD for Friday, 10/30: What are your go to Pajamas and what about slippers?
I only do knee-length sleepshirts. I prefer the jersey ones from Kohls (either Sonoma or Croft and Barrow), or the 2-pack sets from Costco. I can't stand the way pajamas or anything longer gets twisted around as I sleep, and pajama legs get hiked up to my knees. Plus, I'm 2 different sizes on top and bottom, so if I buy a set of pajamas, one piece will be either too big or too small. And my inseam is only 26", so even if I bought petites, the pants would still be too long.
I don't really wear slippers. I prefer "fuzzy socks." Right now, I'm wearing some cheap ones from Ocean State Job Lot that I bought several years ago (Christmas ones with snowflakes on them). Strange how these off-brand cheap ones have lasted, but the "nice" ones from Kohls, I wore holes through them within a month!

My cats feel the same way! Thankfully, I didn't stay up on "new" time last night, because they came in at 4:15 today to remind me they can't open their own cans.

I enjoyed my little "socially distant Halloween" - I had a table out in the driveway with pre-filled cups of candy, and I sat on my porch watching Hocus pocus on the ipad and waving/exchanging greetings with the little goblins as they came by. Everyone seemed very appreciative, and I needed to refill the table twice. We got about 30 kids total (which would be normal for us on a weeknight, but Saturdays have historically been busier.)

Would you please share the recipe for the oooey gooey toffee cake? Sounds delicious!
I already have 6 or 7 new Christmas movies on the tivo from Hallmark and Lifetime, but I don't want to start watching them just yet.

No nap for me today. I couldn't stand the dirty kitchen floor anymore. We have had rain every other day, and people tracking mud and dirt thru, plus cat litter,,I finally had enough. Threw the rugs in the wash, got the Shark vacuum out and vacuumed every crack and crevice in the kitchen, and then washed the floor. Looks shiny and clean now, so it will probably rain again tomorrow, lol. Packers lost today, so hubby isn't in a happy mood. Time for hot beef stew with salad and crusty warm french rolls and then some tv.
No time change tonite..and those of you who said it confused your cats, it did to mine too. Even the outside cats are confused, as it's already getting dark and I take in the dry food and water bowls when it gets dark. They have to survive till morning, lol! We had bright sunshine, 60 degrees, then it got pitch black and dumped down rain, then it got sunny and very windy. Crazy weather!
Have a nice evening all, sleep well!

Jammies - pants from old navy or kohl’s . Lots of Mickey, hearts, fun designs. Then a basic tank top. I wear an old man cardigan over it in the mornings.

Halloween - we had around 80 kids, sometimes get closer to 120. Weather was chilly, high 40s,but no rain or snow . We dressed as a family and did Disney Villians. My folks gave out the candy . Put a table up in the driveway with 6 treats on it,they sat on a bench 5 feet back. Then would refill when kids left. They said everyone was very polite. My kids enjoyed the creative slides, and other methods the neighbors used, about every 4 th house did not give out . Which is fine, they still got plenty of candy and had a nice time.
November already, wow.

Good morning DIS family..its a cold 36 morning, blustery winds, even a few snowflakes flying around. We have a wind advisory out till this afternoon..hopefully it won't get windy enough to knock the power out. We do have to go to the office to get the on call book and case, this will be his last time being the on call person before he retires. Only a little over a month left now till Dec 4'th. Definitely not outdoor weather for me today, guess I'll finish up the last 2 rooms and fall cleaning will be done , except for shampooing the carpets.
Have a nice day everyone,,,hang on to your hats outside! lol!

good morning. hopping onto this post. DH had a staycation last week, didn't feel well on the staycation, got tested positive, is in isolation in our bedroom. Ends Thursday. waiting on our results today but rest of the fam in the house is doing well. DH seems 'fine' , mostly like a bad cold. But still, I can't sleep with worry and lots of 'thinking'. The case for him came from work (essential worker). So in quarantine and sleeping in my son's bed as he's away at college and doing well and busy there thankfully and healthy. DD works outside home at same essential office/hospital setting. so there's that but she wears her mask all day diligently. could have been so much worse so i am super grateful we are doing so well and thankful for our health. we have a roof our heads, bathrooms to disperse ourselves while quarantine time, and lots of channels on tv . i made chicken soup...
