Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

its a cold 36 morning, blustery winds,

buurrr! I know, it's soooo windy & chilly here as well. Trees down on road I take to work. We haven't surveyed to see if we lost any trees on the farm, though I suspect we did. But boy - that sunshine was bright early this morning!

DH seems 'fine' , mostly like a bad cold

I'm so glad he's experiencing mild symptoms, hopefully no one else in your family has to go thru it. We've been lucky - no one in our family immediate or extended (that I know of) have had it. I was tested in March or April, and in the last 2 weeks two other ladies in our office were tested. No positives I'm happy to report. Hopefully we can stay the course.

The sun is shining bright and the wind is blowing hard here today. And darn it's chilly! My father just rang the office and he said it was finally cool enough to open the windows where he lives in Florida- I think he called up just to rub it in haha!!

The Dish vs. DirecTV saga continues....so after I told DirecTV I was leaving them for Dish, I completed all that was required to cancel our service and blah blah blah. Can't meet Dish price, ok. I'll move on. THEN they emailed me yesterday. Please don't leave, we changed our mind and we'll give you the new customer price and a $100 gift card. SO now, I'll call them after 9 EST to wheel & deal. Honestly, what a waste of time. They could have wheeled & dealed when I initially called them! I know this has everyone on the edge of their seats :smooth: so I'll be sure to update you once I call!!!!

I caught my husband looking for Christmas music on the TV music channels....he didn't find any, but I happen to know we DO currently have a channel that is playing Christmas music. I didn't tell him.....ugh I just can't deal with it yet. Does that make me a horrid wife?!?! I'll tell him this weekend if he doesn't stumble upon it on his own before then.

Dinner this evening will be steaks and roasted potatoes. Youngest will be staying with us for a bit, so I thought I'd make an effort. I ordered some rockfish & seafood mac & cheese for tomorrow night from local seafood market, they'll deliver it to me tomorrow morning which is nice. Giving the seafood mac & cheese a test run as we are thinking about having it on Christmas Eve (we do a variation of The Vigil/ Feast of Seven Fishes).

Have a wonderful morning all -

Today, on As The Dish Turns.....

DirecTV offered up a much better price to keep our exact programming for 12 months and tossed in a $100 visa card. Actually, might be about $10 cheaper than the Dish programming. So saving a solid $70 a month.

Would have been simpler and more efficient to have done this the first time I called, but what do I know.

So I called Dish to cancel the installation next Monday - I'm still on hold, it's been about 10 minutes. Hope it's not to much longer!

Brrr, that sounds freezing, Lynxstch, keep warm! Maybe a good day to watch from your cozy home, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day pooh:

Disneyworldsk, welcome to our thread! Prayers for your DH and rest of your family as well!

Easyas123, wow, that is the way to change TV services! I am sorry it was such a hassle though :(

Have a great Monday, everyone!

Good morning.

Did a huge grocery shop after vacation. Even scored napkins. And I am stocking up for whatever may happen after tomorrow. I am concerned about the aftermath of the election either way it goes.

There aren't any vacation calories. :)
Damn, I wish I had known that last week.

I know, it's soooo windy & chilly here as well. Trees down on road I take to work.
I haven't seen trees down but have a new yard sign "Be Kind" that I want to put out after the wind dies down a bit.

I was anxiously awaiting the outcome

No, it makes you sane.

@disneyworldsk Welcome:welcome:

I am concerned about the aftermath of the election either way it goes.

I have those concerns as well. I'm vacillating between watching the news all evening or ignoring it all and finding out Wednesday morning!
My husband and the boys will no doubt be up & watching late into the night. I just want to get the band aid ripped off and it does seem to be a slow moving train wreck!

I have to go up to Middletown after work, I'm thinking of poking my head into the Acme &/or Giant to see if they have any smaller turkeys. I usually hunt for the biggest one I can find, but this year I need a smaller one and so far the smallest I have found is 14 lbs. Husband wants to fry one this year so I can't go to big - otherwise I'd just get a big one again (yay extra leftovers!)

I am planning on ignoring all of it, as I have done all along. It is definitely a train wreck, either way!

They had exactly 8 frozen turkeys at Walmart on Saturday, the smallest was 18 lbs. It was the 'cheap brand' of turkeys, which last year were $.68 a lb, this year--$1.28 a lb. Good luck finding a smaller one!

Good luck finding a smaller one!

Yeah, I've heard whisperings that this isn't the year for finding a smaller turkey! Hope I didn't make a mistake not getting the 14 lb one I came across Saturday morning...well, worse case scenario is I'll get 2 turkey breasts or 1 breast for the fryer and 1 turkey for the oven.

It for sure is a year of 'eh, we'll make due with what we can find'.

Dang - so Walmart only had 8 turkeys? Geez I hope I haven't left it to late!

Id buy the 14 lber the minute it was in sight.

@disneyworldsk, :welcome: to our thread! I do hope your DH feels better very soon and that your entire family stays well!

Extremely blustery day here, too. And of course, it's garbage and recycling day, as well as the first day of town leaf pickup. Our town requires us to purchase tipper barrels for all, and the wind is so strong that it's even knocking over full bins. Thankfully, the leaf pickup came through before we left the house, so we were able to secure those bins, but after we returned from the grocery store our garbage bin was on its side, drifting down the street.

I am truly, literally scared about this election. I see so many signs in this area for the candidate that I do not care for. I also have to take my child with me to the poll tomorrow, as our schools are closed, and that scares me. I wish we could go back to the days when the candidate who didn't win (and those who preferred him) bowed out with grace and dignity. My DH has Wednesday off from work for "employee appreciation" and he was also told to work from home on Thursday and Friday - which is a first; all through this coronavirus, DH has gone in every single day. The bank where he works is located next door to a federal courthouse and across the street from a police station. We all think the "employee appreciation" is more code for "we don't want you in the area in case something happens." The bank already did close down a few months ago when riots were occurring and they were putting fences around the courthouse and police station.

Trying to watch a Hallmark movie right now. Sharing Christmas. I've barely been paying any attention and I've got the gist ;) At night, DH and I finished Haven, caught up with Schitt's Creek, and last night we tried to start the final season of The Good Place. And speaking of Christmas, I've been wondering if any of our local groups will be doing the Festival(s) of Trees. There's one group that always does it for the food shelf and they rent one of the units in our (empty and dead) mall. Last year we also went to the "Fez-tival of Trees" that the Shriners did. I have to always remind Josh to look at all the trees first, not to put all of his tickets into the first "toy tree" that he sees. And then there's Bright Nights are Forest Park. It's a drive-thru light display, and they've been posting photos of themselves putting up the displays already, but I wonder if the kiddie rides and gift shop will be open this year. I told my MIL, if the rides are open, "you'll see one kid going around..." ;)

Amen to what you said above, Apirateslifeforme! I, too pray and wish we could go back to the days when the person who did not win gracefully accepted that and that was that! I also absolutely pray that one day both candidates running would choose to do so kindly!

I still need to watch A Crafty Christmas! Maybe later or tomorrow. I check each day to see what movies are on Lifetime and Hallmark. I also discovered yesterday that I do get UpTv and Hallmark Drama. I don't think I get any other Hallmark channels though.

For any Touched by an Angel fans two of my very favorite episodes will be on this week on START TV. Wednesday at 8am (A Bringer of Light) and Saturday at 9am (The Sign of the Dove). Remember this is my time here in LA. I have not watched any TBAA in several years which lol I definitely need to change especially considering I have seasons 1-7 (I do not care for the final two seasons 8 and 9) on DVD. A Bringer of Light, IIRC and should it still hold true for me today, was perhaps my favorite, favorite episode because it truly showed what I believe with all my heart and hold so fast to which is that indeed God=Light. When we choose to walk with Him, indeed He is a Lamp unto our feet and a Light unto our path.

That is a scary thought, but unfortunately, I have been thinking the same thing might happen. I am glad for your sake and your family's that your husbands bank has told him and others to take those days off. Whether it really be Employee Appreciation Day or something else, you will both feel better with him away from those bldgs.

I watched all seasons of The Good Place on NBC when it was on. After the first episode , I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but by the series finale, I was , as Eleanor would say--"forkin" ad to see it go!

should we be doing a separate thread on : what are you 'watching' during covid times?! i am finding that i can't concentrate lately on long shows, i just want quick fast , funny. watching the office for the first time with ds so that helps. and he wants mandalorian.
also, i could use a good chicken recipe that is like a type that makes it cook in a pot like stewing all day without a slow cooker.

I also have to take my child with me to the poll tomorrow, as our schools are closed, and that scares me.

I'm not sure what your poll times are, but here they are 7AM-8PM (I think it's 8...) anyway, why not go before or after your husband goes into work so he can watch him? I normally go after work or at lunch, but I've got a appointment tomorrow afternoon so I'm thinking of going soon after the polls open on the way into the office.

which is a first; all through this coronavirus, DH has gone in every single day

Yeah, that is telling.
I've been reading & hearing a lot about potential unrest, and I'm wondering how much of it will be a self fulfilling prophecy so-to-speak.

Id buy the 14 lber the minute it was in sight.

I'm starting to think I may have made a big mistake leaving it there and NOT buying it on Saturday. I'm going to be by several grocery stores this evening so I'm going to try to run into a few of them to check out the inventory.

Welcome to this thread disneyworldsk--a separate thread isn't necessary. We talk about anything and everything on this one. We used to have a QOTD, (question of the day), but that has slacked off some. Feel free to post one any time you would like!
So for today,,lets make the QOTD--What are you watching on tv during covid times?

I myself am waiting for the new shows. I finished Big Brother last week. We have been watching Brittania, Pandora, The Outpost, hubby likes The Spanish Princess on Starz. Superstore started last week, Young Sheldon starts this week. I don't have Netflix or or Hulu, and have never watching anything on Amazon Prime, even though I've been a member for at least 3 years, lol!

Happy Monday everyone....once again I am WAY behind and need to do a catch-up. Hubby was home Thursday evening, did some work closer to home on Friday so he was home pretty early that day, as was I so we spent some quality time together on the couch and napping... :sad2:  Whenever we are both home with nothing to do, we always say we're going to get stuff done and end up doing none of it, usually end up napping instead. I can understand with him since he's tired from working so hard but I'm just lazy. LOL Friday evening, we went over to see our friends....its been over a month since we've seen them in person so that was a nice visit. Saturday, we drove down to San Diego, where my sister lives, to spend Halloween with my niece. We all hung out in their front yard, having some drinks and TONS of good snacks and treats while my niece played with the neighbor kids. Not many trick or treaters as usual, but there was still a few and everyone that did get some candy were super appreciative to those that were giving it out. After awhile we moved inside to watch "spooky" shows....we started out watching Hocus Pocus until my niece(and DH....) fell asleep, then we changed it to Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. We all were probably in bed by 11p. LOL We said we sure have gotten wild and crazy in our "old age"...;) Got home pretty early yesterday afternoon, hubby napped again while I watched some Hallmark. Hubby and DD filled out their ballots last night and I'll be dropping all three off today. Super stressed about Tuesday....I feel like we're in some kind of weird TV show or movie....

Welcome to the thread @disneyworldsk

We all have to work Wednesday here. As I understand it, unless it’s a landslide either way, it could drag out for several days or more. Ugh! I wish we could all just stay home and chill. It‘s probably good to keep busy, though.

Halloween was slow here. First time ever. I was very surprised how slow. Will have a lot of candy to bring into work!

QOTD: I am not much of a TV person. If I watch, I like watching news/current events, veterinary shows, documentaries or a ballgame, usually. I sometimes like a movie with the family. I do have my new iPad Pro which is like a little TV, and I can watch Netflix or Disney Plus or Amazon Prime, but as of yet I’ve watched very little - I’ve gone through the lists several times and there’s not much there interests me. I haven’t watched any Hallmark movies. :duck:I think I’d rather read!

So for today,,lets make the QOTD--What are you watching on tv during covid times?

I really enjoy the baking championship shows on Food Network this time of year. I'm almost finished the Halloween one and the Holiday one starts tonight or tomorrow night. In years past they've had a Thanksgiving one as well....and Gingerbread ones. Anyway - I enjoy those. My go to 30 minute comedies are Goldbergs & Blackish. I usually record the Dead Files when it's on, and Finding Your Roots & Doc Martin on PBS. Been catching some reruns of Parks & Rec, too. Expedition Unknown can be fun, and of course my super guilty pleasure - David on QVC at 8 on Wednesday evening :sad2:...I'm not sure what it is, I don't buy stuff (okay, I did once) but I'm just drawn to the damn show like a moth to light! Local news is usually our go to in the AM, and we usually what we turn on when we get home from 5-6:30. I also love most historical type shows you might find on History or Nat Geo or Smithsonian Channels -

I got Amazon Prime in order to watch Good Omens (so good) and still have it, but I'm pretty sure I haven't watched anything else on it. Supposedly we have Disney Plus & Hulu accounts on our TV too since my BIL came over and was scandalized we had none of these subscription services, so he put his on our TV. I don't remember how to access them, and can't muster the interest to figure it out.

@Pea-n-Me --I love all the baking shows on Food Network. I think the Holiday Christmas one starts tonite, if I remember right. There is also one called Candy Land that starts next week. That should be fun to watch. I am not a great baker, and I am amazed at some of the things they come up with on those!
I watch QVC once in a great while, but have never bought anything off it. I love watching the holiday food shows on there,, but think the prices on those things seem outrageous to me!

Is Candyland about Christmas candy, Lynxstch? A friend of mine makes a wonderful fudge! :)

QOTD--What are you watching on tv during covid times? I also enjoy reading! As I have shared on our thread before, I need some extra books right now to read! I'll never take for granted the library again post plague! During this time, I have discovered fun in game shows such as Price is Right along with older (repeated) shows that are available to DVR such as Chain Reaction and Sale of the Century. I need to break out my Touched by an Angel DVD's! I do enjoy some of the Lifetime and Hallmark movies. In general, I admit to not having (in general) too much sitting at one time watching TV patience which is handy thing about a DVD or DVR (come back to watching later :)) I do sometimes watch Love it or List it and a couple other shows on HGTV as a way to travel from home :)

Breaking news on our TV stations...CT is rolling back to Phase 2. I hope this doesn't mean we'll eventually be in another complete shutdown except for groceries and work.

Josh just got home from school with his first report card. Thankfully, the principal and vice principal attached a cover letter to explain why almost all students received "1"s in all areas (1 means "student lacks progress toward end-of-year-goals"). Sounds like it's due to not having regular materials and methods to evaluate students properly. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw that Josh received almost all 1s, especially when I saw his scores on the assessment tests. But what wasn't a shock was that his PE teacher gave him all 3s, which stands for "mastery of the subject" Glad we have parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday morning.

Our polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., but they are always extremely busy from 6 to about 8:30 (both a.m. and p.m.). DH is already planning to leave early tomorrow morning and vote on his way to work, as we've found that even though it's a madhouse first thing in the morning, it's even worse after 5 p.m. When the polls close at 8, the line is still long enough that it takes another hour or two to get everyone in (you just can't get in line after 8 p.m.). Honestly, it's really best for us to go between 9 and noon. (Is it bad to say that that's when all the seniors go and it's usually pretty mellow? ;) )

I don't really think we'll have a problem with anybody. I've never been to vote and had someone say something. We don't really live in an area like that. But there's always a first time and the prospect of that scares me. I've already told Josh that he needs to stay close to me and not say anything. He's taking it very seriously :)
So for today,,lets make the QOTD--What are you watching on tv during covid times?
I'm trying to remember all the things DH and I have watched! We also signed up for Amazon Prime because I wanted to watch Good Omens, like @easyas123. I LOVE Neil Gaiman and the book is fabulous! David Tennant and Michael Sheen absolutely nailed their roles, too - they are treasures

So we've watched that, plus the aforementioned Haven, Schitt's Creek, and The Good Place. Also...the entire Star Trek original series, Locke & Key, The Haunting of Hill House (and I watched The Haunting of Bly Manor by myself because DH is a scaredy cat ;) ), October Faction (meh), Penny Dreadful, The Frankenstein Chronicles, Lucifer...and I'm sure I'm forgetting many! I have trouble finding acceptable shows because I don't care for violence, over-the-top swearing, or constant nudity. We liked Stranger Things, but we watched all of those before the lockdown. I still like my People's Court - it's back and very interesting how they're doing it (with the bailiff being the only person actually in the courtroom). I also watch a lot of Science Channel - I like What on Earth? and Mysteries of the Abandoned (and a few others), and the Golden Girls.
