Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

I took French class through Junior high and high school. I can still read it a bit. When we went to Montreal on vacation several years ago I was able to figure out the signs. I really can't speak it much any more.

@easyas123 So glad you rescued the pups. The mom needs to keep them safe and put tags on the collars.

@lynxstch: Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday. 65 is kind of a big deal year so 66 should be easier I am turning 65 this year. Most days I feel like I am 35 so I think I will go with that age. :rolleyes1

@Pea-n-Me Happy Anniversary. I have never been to the North End for Italian food but friends love it there. We have a little local place that is always good. They are still only doing takeout as they don't have a lot of space.

I took tomorrow off for a chill out and relax day. We are going out for breakfast, going to Trader Joe's, maybe Kohl's, go home and relax, and then we will go to dinner on Friday night as usual. I love to go out for breakfast so when I take a day off breakfast is at the top of the list. We have some nice family run restaurants that just do breakfast/lunch.

Today is sunny and breezy with highs in the 70s. Next week there is supposed to be a cool down in most of the country. Fall is here.

The huge boxes of pumpkins were at the grocery store today. The mums were put out last week. We're in the search for a new dishwasher. Can't believe the prices of some. And so far, any that we have picked out are not in stock, at another store (hopefully) or discontinued. We looked into one at Home Depot and the earliest we could get it was in November. Yikes! We're still on the hunt though.

Visiting restrictions have been relaxed here for the facility my mom is in so I may get to see her next week once she is out of quarantine.

It's been overcast since the first of the week, rained some and temps in the 60's overnight. Glorious! I will welcome the sun though. My grandson said earlier this week "May I play in the rain? The puddles are calling me!".

Dinner tonight is taco salad.

@Pea-n-Me, Happy Anniversary!

@lynxstch, Happy Anniversary and early Happy Birthday!

@easyas123, I hope everything turns out well with your medical tests

Still a bit frustrated with the distance learning again today. I think the teacher was as well. Everyone is supposed to have their microphones "muted," but kids this age like to play and every so often, someone (or a couple someones) turn their microphones on, so we're treated to the aforementioned TV blaring, adults on the phone, and today we added crying babies and the pouring of cereal into a ceramic or glass bowl. I literally could not hear the teacher giving the assignment. It must be just as frustrating for the teacher, I imagine - plus she has to referee the kids in the classroom, too! But we got it all done...Josh did his art assignment on Hicks's "Peaceable Kingdom," having to draw his own Peaceable Kingdom, and the teacher already came back with "This is a really great drawing. Keep up the good work!" He had to write a story about "something you know a lot about" for Writing, so he chose to write about music. His teacher thought he'd write about how to sing and/or play an instrument, but instead he wrote "Chapter 1: Michael Jackson, Smooth Criminal; Chapter 2: Bon Jovi, Shot Through the Heart Bad Name; Chapter 3: Rush and Geddy Lee, Tom Sawyer." And his teacher actually knew who they all were and said that she was "blown away" that he knows all those musicians.

Between classes, we tried breaking open one of the geodes we purchased last month. We had a very hard time; it felt like it was actually metal. It finally did break, and there were no crystals inside. However, when I did a search using the camera/Google Lens on my phone, "meteorite" kept coming up. I'm wondering if we could take the pieces to a museum somewhere and see if anyone there can help us. I'm skeptical if it really is a space rock, but how cool would it be if it is?

QOTD: does anyone speak several languages ?

I took Spanish in high school and went to visit Spain. Now i’m learning French along with my teenager

Buenos Dias. Bon matin. Guten Morgen. Buongiorno. Bom dia.
Sobh bekheir. Suprabhat. Zaoan
Nothing fluently, other than English. Does British English count? I can swap from American English to British English very easily! ;)

I took 6 years of French (2 junior high and 4 high school), and 4 years of Spanish (high school). Yes, I took dual languages. It was confusing only when I had the classes back-to-back. When I went into college, I took some tests-for-credit in both French and Spanish and received 36 credits toward my degree (so I didn't have to take classes). I'm not sure that I remember much, but I could probably get along in a French or Spanish-speaking country. I watch the People's Court religiously and I can understand Judge Milian when she gets going in Spanish (is Cuban Spanish different from Spain-Spanish? We learned the dialect from Spain in school). Now Josh wants to learn Spanish as well. I've tried telling him some things that I've remembered. I've been told to turn on one of the Spanish TV stations and he'll quickly pick it up at his age.

Surprisingly, I can understand Italian, but can't speak it. I know a few things in German as well.

In 7th grade, our English teacher had us do a whole section on Greek and Latin prefixes. It still helps tremendously with knowing what words mean. "-ology" is the study of something. "Hydro-" is water. "Cardio-" is heart. Stuff like that. I really want to get Josh learning those.

That is so cute, Carol! Looks fun, too :)

Snowysmom, I'm glad you have some time off! That is also great you do have some family run restaurants out there still. Not too many here anymore. At least two that I am aware of have gone out of business here due to the plague :( Enjoy! :)

Yay Josh! I'm sorry things are still frustrating though :( Hug! I really can't imagine being a teacher to such young children and having to be present both with children in person and remotely :(

I love hearing about Birthdays and Anniversaries. 💐🎉🎈

@Pea-n-Me Happy Anniversary! Best Wishes! 🍰 🥂

@lynxstch Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary

@easyas123 I hope all your test results come out ok. I have a phone appt Monday to ask about getting somethings checked out myself. Getting old(er) really sucks....

QOTD: does anyone speak several languages: I can speak a little Spanish, I can read more than I can speak actually, which is really sad after 2 years in High School, 2 semesters in college and being Hispanic.... All sets of grandparents spoke Spanish but never taught their kids so we didn't learn. I always said I would learn so I could know what my grandparents were saying when they spoke Spanish amongst themselves. LOL

I used the app Duolingo before we went to Italy....I picked up some phrases but like Spanish I'm better with the reading than I am with speaking. I'm starting to use it again in hopes I'll be better when we're finally able to go back to Italy.

Another tiring week at work....I'm so ready to be done but trying to hold out until the end of the year, I can do it! This weekend, we've got to get some stuff done around the house and I'll probably put up some Halloween decor and save fall stuff for after Halloween. Its still been sooo stinking hot here, I'm so over it. The evenings have been cooling off but during the day its still been in the 90's, ready for some 70's weather.

I made this Spinach Ravioli Lasagna yesterday, I've made it before but it's been awhile. Instead of cheese ravioli, I used chicken and mozzarella ravioli from Costco and it came out sooo good.

Good afternoon everyone. I got busy on more of my before winter 'to do ' list this morning, along with washing the kitchen floor and rugs. Apparently we have a man sneaking down from the woods around here and trying to break into houses, so I put up 2 more motion sensor lights on each side of the house. 202 LED in each, bright enough to scare him away, lol! Going up to the attic to make sure there are no bees nests in the roof vents next. Have a great Friday everyone..it's almost the weekend!

Had a nice day off today, We had a nice breakfast and went to Trader's Joe's. They had paper towel unlike Market Basket which still does not have any, around here anyway. I also got the leaf shaped tortilla chips, salad, pumpkin Joe's Os, pumpkin spice coffee, and scones. We are all set for a while. I also went to Kohls for a short trip to see if it was easy to look around and it was. I was able to browse without alot of people around me. Found a nice light quilted jacket and a few shirts. Then we took the dog for his walk and just got back from our walk. We are going out to dinner to a tex-mex place. It has been a good day.

That is scary about the man trying to break into homes. I hope he is caught soon. We have to take a look for bee and wasp nests too.

While most trees are still green, a few trees are getting very colorful. The leaves are mostly yellows and reds. So pretty.

Happy weekend.

Lynn, that's scary.

Snowysmom, sounds like a good shopping trip.

Today has been a lazy, check things off the to do list, kind of day. Mending, writing a book report for a reading group, folding linens, calling the hospital to set up the patient portal to get lab results. That sort of stuff.

We are having yellow jackets in the house. Not sure exactly where they are coming from but they hang out by the dining room window and are very sluggish and easy to kill with a fly swatter. Almost a whack-a-mole game. We kill 30-40 a day. We have looked outside and found a place they were flying in/out of near the frame around the front door. DH sprayed but not sure how they are getting in. There are annoying but we figure once we have a freeze they'll be gone. If not, we'll have to hire an exterminator.

Dinner is chili and salad. Last night we had the last of the mahi mahi our neighbors had caught and brought us. Tomorrow, steamed crabs.

Medical test inconclusive, off to another Dr. More hurry up & wait.

I'm back home, biting my nails! Trees are "out for delivery by end of day". I don't know when end of day is, although I suppose it is likely to be after I put on my pajamas and contemplate watching TV in bed, but before my husband gets home from fishing! Honestly, I'm just HOPING they show up, I don't care if it's 10 PM (ok, I'd care a bit if they came that late). I've already got 4 guys lined up to be here at 7 AM tomorrow morning based on these trees arriving, so I'm starting to get nervous they won't show up today.

Dinner is my world famous recipe, drive by Capriottis, think - "I should have stopped there", need gas, pull into Wawa. Order subs, go home, put in fridge. Chill till ready to eat. It's a old family recipe....

We put motion detector lights up around the house a couple of years ago. It makes me feel better. All sorts of animals set them off, rabbits, bobcats, coyotes, etc., hopefully no humans. There is a black panther that roams around sometimes.

I went to Kohls today too! Picked up some good clearance deals on clothes for the grandkids.

We found a dishwasher, went to another Lowes about 20 minutes away from ours. It's running now and I am so happy! Was a good price too.

Dinner tonight was salad, spaghetti and green beans.

Good morning DIS family. Once again this week, I am asking for extra prayers. Woke up this morning to find a 1:00 am FB message from stepdaughter. Our 16 year old grandson was at a friends house last nite, when they decided to take their dirt bikes up to an old coal trail in the woods to ride them after midnite, and he hit a deer going at about 40 mph. They have now been at the ER since 1 am. They are almost positive he has at the very least a mild concussion and a broken ankle. It could have been so much worse, had he not been wearing a helmet. He is a kindhearted kid, and he's very sad about the fact that the deer was laying there dying, after he hit it. He is in a lot of pain , but they are waiting for a Dr and the results of the CT scan and xrays before giving him anything. Not the way to start anyone's day :(

Edited to add as the Dr was just in...The doc said everything looks ok which is a complete shock to him and his Mother both. But said might need to see a specialist that can look into the xrays better. He is in so much pain. They are supposed to be bringing motrin, cleaning his wounds and giving him a tetanus shot. So how could they be positive that he had a concussion and a broken ankle 2 hours ago, and now say there is nothing majorly wrong? We are all so confused at this point! His mother is very upset, and he is getting angry. Also he has started having pain when he takes a deep breath and yet the Dr. says he is fine. He could have a broken rib or bleeding or something. She told the Dr she was not taking him home until they checked for a broken rib or a punctured lung. And they put a walking boot on his leg, without even cleaning the wounds? I am beyond flabbergasted, we don't have the best hospital in the world, but we certainly have a better caliber of one than they are showing themselves to be this morning! She is going to take him home and take him to WVU tomorrow if he has no improvement .

She got so furious with them, that she signed him out, didn't wait for the chest xray, or the shot, or the motrin. Took him home and got him motrin and is letting him sleep for a couple of hours..then taking him to the local Urgent Care right by their house and having them do the xray and tetanus shot and see what they say, before deciding if he needs to go to Morgantown.

@lynxstch, so many prayers to you! I really hope everything turns out well with your grandson. I can only imagine how much pain he must be in.

(Not a fan of hospital ERs...after the one closest to us did absolutely nothing for my DH when he was sent from a doctor's office with a blood pressure of 180-something over 120-something. It is NOT a busy hospital; there might be 2-3 people in the ER at any given time, tops. When he walked out 10 hours later, they gave him a sarcastic, "Bye, hope you feel better!" :furious: )

I'm also hoping that the lurker in the woods is caught soon. That is definitely one thing that I am paranoid about. Do you have deadbolts on your doors? Our handyman put up a really good one on our back sliding door that I love - there is absolutely no way to open that door from the outside now.

Just killing time right now until Josh's Saturday soccer game. My in-laws are coming as well, plus DH's brother and his family. This should be interesting...we got a "sternly-worded" email from the soccer association a few days ago regarding the number of spectators. There should only be 2 per player, despite the fact that we're outdoors AND wearing masks. We're just going to all pretend that we don't know each other and stay apart, I suppose. Afterward, DH needs to take his parents to Best Buy for new cell phones - they want to try the Jitterbugs. Mom wants a smart phone, but Dad still wants a flip phone. He hates cell phones in the first place and doesn't really want one, but it's become a necessary evil. My mom and I will be heading over to Kohl's to get the rest of a birthday gift for one of Josh's friends.

Surprisingly, there will be photos done at Josh's school next month. I'm just going to order a small package, as I'd rather take some of my own. People have been complaining for years that you have to order a package before they even take the photos. I was thinking of taking him to the Reservoir around October 17th/18th for our personal photos, but since the colors are already changing, I might have to move it up a week. I was thinking that date because DH and I went up there on our 2nd anniversary, which is October 15th, and the colors were perfect and brilliant that day. Last year we went to a corn maze on the 14th and the colors were just starting to change. But it does seem that it will need to be earlier this year. We saw lots of vibrant reds and oranges already in MA the other day!

No movie night at his friend's house tonight - they already had previous plans. I love them, but I am grateful for the night off. We might not be able to go next week either, if they have it, as we have to get up early on Sunday and make a 90-minute drive to the Southwick Zoo for his other friend's birthday celebration. Although with his attitude lately, I don't know that we should be doing ANYTHING fun...
