We bought the Outback 3 years ago. We have the Grand Touring (whatever the super special one is) and I LOVE it. DOn't let anyone kid you that it is SUV because it's not. I tell people I drive a fancy station wagon because that's exactly what it is. It's by far the most comfortable car we have ever owned. I lived in my car with my job (easily 25000+ miles a year) and it handles incredibly well, responsive with pickup, and I love all the safety features with the blind side monitors, the eye sight that can help control if I'm not paying attention (there was chance I'm not) and the back seat is comfortable and has it's own heated seats. Again, I'd NEVER bought such expensive car if we didn't have a very large settlement from car accident. I would have bought one of the Touring or Limited editions. Also, as comfortable as my car is, it handles very very well in the rain and snow. I'm not much of a snow driver and this helps me feel little bit secure.

Matt went with the Crosstrek (Limited) because he knew how well mine handled but didn't need the bigger version of the Outback. He wanted lot of the gadgets with safety features including the AWD because he has longish commute. He wanted limited because of the radio has the apple/android play that will sync with his phone to show his maps from the phone to this radio screen like GPS. We also got really good deal buying from the same dealer as before. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions!
Thank you! This information is very helpful. DH is looking at the standard models and the hybrids, but isn't fixed on any one car at the moment. I think he really wants to test drive both cars, and I want to come along to sit in the back. (So your comment on the heated back seats has my interest!) The back seat is one of my major litmus tests on a car. Since my mom has serious motion sickness (so do I, but hers beats mine every time so she gets the front passenger seat when we take her places), I get the back seat fairly often. It's amazing how many car designers clearly don't give much attention to the back passengers. Maybe for safety, but not for comfort! If you are no longer in a car seat, forget it! And I'm really interested in all the Subaru safety features -- we're not getting any younger, so more safety features can only be a win, win in my book. :)

I haven't had a whole lot of time to post (only 5 minutes at a time, it seems); been busy with DGS#2 and caring for DD#2. She is doing better; very sore on her right shoulder and her back/neck. Some bruising on her abdomen, thighs, and upper arms (I think the arm ones are from the EMTs, though, as they are in places where one would be grabbed to be pulled out of a car and put onto a stretcher, if that makes sense). She is still very lightheaded, and a bit nauseous but is able to eat; and she's very tired. This week is going to be rough on DD, as today is her 6th wedding anniversary; the two have spent 2 anniversaries together (gotta love the military); her birthday is Wedenesday, and she's missing her husband. I told her she needs to go in for a follow up, since it's been almost a week, and then pain in her neck and back have only gotten worse. She has to call the hospital and see who the trauma doctor wants her to see, since she doesn't have a PCP here in FL.

Dh has been sleeping on an air mattress in his office, and was off work last week, but is back to the grind this am. Going to be a bit rougher on me, as I won't have DH to distract DGS; DS has been doing a good job helping out his sister and nephew. I sucked it up and got a swimsuit so I could take DGS swimming in the mornings. I'm going to just have to come home and shower and lather on my psoraisis medication to hopefully prevent any reactions. DGS has been a little trooper, not being able to cuddle with his mama like he's used to.

Other than that, it's the same thing, different day. We've had a couple of days of easy meals: fish sticks/fries; hamburgers/mac n cheese; oven fried chicken and Stovetop stuffing (and as always, veggies). DGS and I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday. Tonight I'm either frying fish with fries and veg, or I'm making eggs, sausage and waffles, I'm not sure which.

ETA: I've only been to Minnie's bfast once, and I really can't remember what we had. So...my favorite breakfast food here is the Metro Diner's Shrimp and Grits. I don't like grits, but theirs are in fried cake form and it is gooooood. Also, the Maple Street Biscuit Company....they have the best sausage gravy and biscuits; and the fried chicken is very good too.

We'll get to 115 or so during the next couple of months.....many times. But....it's a dry heat :rotfl:

I prefer the dry heat of AZ/NV to the wet heat of FL. I've lived in both, and honestly, I'd rather breathe in an oven than a sauna.....

We hit 96 at my house yesterday (real feel 105). Add in the dusty air, and it was not a good day to be outside. We're going to go swimming today at 10am, when the pool opens, so DGS can get some energy out. After that, we are back into hiding in the a/c (which is struggling to keep the house at 72-73; we've been hitting 78 inside most afternoons the last week. :(

Virtual run is on the honor system. You time yourself and enter into the computer. Then they send you a medal or certificate. Disney’s are kind of pricy. Ones for charities are usually a $25 donation.

Dinners - I haven’t mentioned any in awhile. On this week’s meal plan I have homemade meatballs ( made by one kid) with penne pasta and spinach salad. Then my favorite easy crockpot meal. Place 3-4 sweet potatoes peeled and cut up on the bottom, add 1/2 cup of water. Then place two honeysuckle turkeyloins on top. Next add 1/2 a jar of apricot jam or orange marmalade. That’s it !

Thanks for the explanation on the virtual run! And your recipe sounds delicious--I love both sweet potatoes and turkey , so I am going to steal your recipe and make it!

Good Monday morning.

Not much new here. Online church yesterday. Did a little clean out in the basement. We chose one set of shelves to tackle at a time. We have so much furniture to donate but nowhere to take it. Had cook out for dinner - DH chose a hamburger and I had a hot dog. I made potato salad and deviled eggs and we had a nice tomato. Tonight's dinner is our last Blue Apron - Veracruz style shrimp & vegetables.

@Bianca and Bernard, bless you for caring for your DD and DGS. Sounds like she could benefit from physical therapy. I am sure her md will recommend when she is ready. And we have Metro Diner here too. I like the waffle.

We are cheap and hate paying the electric bill so ours is set at 78. Supposed to be 89 today and humid here in MD. I am used to humidity having lived here all my life. When we vacationed in AZ, I had to find a drug store and get nasal spray and eye drops to combat the dryness.

Gratitudes:
Modern medicine
Technology to keep us in touch with friends and family
Yesterday's thunderstorm followed by a rainbow.

Please do, it’s a change from your typical Idaho potatoes and carrots.
I also like one using 2 small pork loins, honey,Dijon mustard, and OJ placed in an oven bag. Then add carrots and 1-2 red delicious apples, skins on. It roasts nice in the oven and easy cleanup with the bag, just be sure to put some vents in.
Low 80s today, sitting on my front porch as I type this. May everyone find a moment of peace today.

Thank you for the update, Bianca and Bernard. God Bless you and thank you for all you are doing to care for your daughter and family. Continued prayers for all of you and brighter days ahead for sure :)

Wednesday will be July! Amazing. There are indeed days that feel like others (usually later in the week than it really is) or times when "time" feels timeless. Sometimes I do feel as though this current normal has been forever and it is hard to remember a pre plague time. It definitely is so sad and strange. I think a week from Tuesday will be 3 months exactly since I've been in a store or out in public (other than to move my car or water Evergreen) However, what thanksgiving in those 3 months and all moments! I simply pray every day to be used as God sees fit to witness and serve with joy and in thanks. I know He is in control always and in all ways. All will be well because it already is. Keep the faith all, keep smiling, and know so many on here such as myself care, too! Thank you all more than I can say for it! I do thank God also for all of you.

Cool day here.....only going to be 99........still not good for all the wild fires burning.
We set out AC to 77 and it gets turned off from 3-6 pm weekdays for our energy saving plan. It then usually gets up to 80-82

Today is DD's birthday. She took the day off and is taking the grand kids (her niece and nephew) to the park to feed the ducks

....I wish we could turn off at 3:00, we don't run the pool. wash and all ceiling fans are turned off, sometimes the TV also, but in our very primitive desert mobile home, we would heat up quickly....though we our living at 82-84...we don't turn on the air till dining room reaches 88....no idea what time that will be today.....with the cold weather and such....hated to waste it by sleeping, but outside form 2-6am was just dandy and back to feeling better.

Hope everyone stayed cool today--got to 90 here in Western MD, still no rain in sight :( I managed to get the weedwacking done before 9 this morning, and at 6 am I was out front trimming some errant bushes and wild roses that keep growing in our bank. It was nice and cool then, and quiet, only the birds singing, lol. Hubby's Drs appt went well this afternoon, but the waiting room was very full. They had the chairs spaced out 6 feet apart, but there were so many people, that some were just standing. Thankfully they took him in almost on time. Dinner was leftover pork from last nite, with Knorr garlic shells, and a salad. Time to sit and relax and try to find something to watch. For the first time in 1 1/2 years, the Tivo is almost empty! Have a lovely evening everyone!!

Happy Birthday to your daughter, Meriweather!

Chickapin parterre, glad your house feels cooler. Stay safe :)

Lynxstch, hooray that your husband's doctors appointment went well :)

Monday Gratitude:

Learning another elderly church friend is doing well in the hospital and should be able to go home tomorrow.

I ordered a new cell phone on Wal-Mart! Dad had gone to Target this afternoon to see what they had in store. He got to talk with a helpful cell phone worker who recommended a Moto phone that Target is selling for $119. He said it would be more similar to the Galaxy I was used to (J3 purchased in September, 2018) than a LG. We want to keep Square Trade protection on the phone which is one reason our choices were limited to Wal-Mart or Target. Plus, of course the plague, has severely limited what is available period!

The phone is the Verizon prepaid Moto e5 Go. We found the same phone new on Wal-Mart for $34! It clearly said "condition new." With the 2 year protection plan, the total came to under $50. Please pray this turns out to be a good phone! It is supposed to come by Wednesday. Thank you :) We will have 14 days if need be to return.

I had Googled Verizon senior discounts the other day. I found (not on Verizon's site itself just through Googling) that Verizon offer a 10% senior discount. Dad called. We don't qualify because we are on a prepaid plan. However, the representative, found us a better savings promotion that she thought would last at least a year--$20 savings. I am sharing this in hopes of saving some of you some money! I believe it is their Loyalty Discount (we've had them for almost 2 years). Check it out! :) As an FYI, I THINK I read through Google, that ATT, TMobile, and one other (don't remember who) also offer a senior discount.

Let's start the new week of Monday, 6/29, with a double QOTD:

QOTD #1: Thinking of Summertime, have you ever participated in a parade? If no, what is your favorite parade to watch?

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July.

I admit to not being very parade patient! I did love seeing the Christmas parade at Disneyland probably 5 years ago now. I would enjoy seeing it one day again. ::MickeyMo

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July

I have become a ton more Patriotic as I get older. Musical Theater camp kids put on a Patriotic Show a few years ago. It was also a benefit to support military families. It was such a special experience to be part of.

QOTD #1: I did, with DD#2. Her Brownie troop did a parade and needed a parent volunteer to chaperone and carry the sign when the co-leader got sick. Guess who was tapped in?

Today we have a heat advisory from 1pm-5pm. Supposed to hit 'upper 90s, with heat indices between 108 and 112.' Looks like swimming this am, and hiding inside this afternoon.

Trigger warning: mention of miscarriage.

QOTD#2:
DD#2 was born tomorrow, 27 years ago. (ouch) Right on her due date. Went into labor about 6am, walked about 15 flights of stairs over and over and over and over until I was sure it was going to stick this time. Took the bus to the hospital (no car), and freaked out all the passengers and the bus driver (who skipped a couple of stops, I think) every time a contraction hit (went from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes by the time I arrived at the stop) then walked the 4ish blocks to the hospital. Went in, got confirmation, had the person who rode with me call DH (not DH then) and got all monitored up. Contractions every 4minutes by the time he arrived; I asked if we were able to wait until he arrived, and the doc said we could try. He was there within an hour (he did manage to get a ride from a person at work, about 30 minutes away, but went to the wrong hospital at first....typical DH).

Side note: It was July 1st. Does anyone know what happens on July 1st in a teaching hospital? I do....guess who starts their new rotations? Doctors in training. Guess who got a brand spanking new DIT to deliver her baby (being overseen by a teacher doctor [TD], of course)?

Ok, where was I? Oh yeah, all hooked up. No epidural, because I was too close to delivering and not enough time for it to kick in. So the nice doc ordered me a shot of....Demerol, not much, just enough to take the edge off. Water still not broken. Contractions are now right on top of each other, time to go! They take the foot down, bring up the stirrups, and scoot on down I did. Out comes the shaky little DIT, and all the other little DIT coming to watch, and the nurses, all in pretty scrubs. Behind them, the TD in a beautiful white silk blouse with a lace collar, and dark pants, makeup and hair done to the nines; asked by the nurse if she wanted scrubs, the TD replied "no, I have a meeting after this and I want to look nice." A quick skin numbing, a small incision to help make things...bigger (6 stitches after), and we are ready to roll.

You think you know where this is going, don't you? Hah

Out comes the pretty water balloon popper tool. A quick nick and some fluid drains out. Not a lot, maybe about 2 TBLS, according to DH. Time to push. One quick push got her almost there, another quick push popped her head. One last push, all her body....and....remember a minute ago, I said a little bit of amniotic fluid came out? Well, I guess she was acting like a stopper in a bottle, because when she popped out, so did all the fluid. Rather forcefully. All over that TID (who bobbled, but did not drop baby)....and the pretty TD who was kneeling right beside him. Her hair looked like she was caught in a rainstorm, mascara smearing...and that pretty white silk blouse was now see-through and streaked with yellow and red fluid. DH said he would have laughed his behind off, but was scared I might have hurt him for laughing at such a painful time.

Also, a side note. When the doctor months before says you having a boy, understand that sometimes they miss things. Like twins (remember 27 years ago, and I was on Medicaid, so not the most interested in care doctors. Turns out I was carrying twins, one of each, and at some point after the ultrasound where the tech said "HEY IT'S A BOY! CONGRATULATIONS!", that boy was lost. (there were some issues about month 5, but they did no follow up once it was clear I was still pregnant.) The girl hiding behind the boy (as was discovered when the doc rereviewed the images....they originally thought that little arm floating directly behind the boy's arm was a 'ghost image')...same with the heartbeat (echo).

Everything I bought....gowns and onesies and socks and blankets...were all blue. For a boy. All washed and ready to go.

Anyways, the TD is soaked and the DIT stands up and says "It's a girl!". And the first thing I did? I turned to DH, started to cry, and apologized that she was a girl. We were both shocked, but he recovered quickly. He went to bathe her and start being dad (he refused the cord cutting, was too concerned about hurting either one of us...give him a break, he was a young 23). While he's with the nurses with the baby, the DIT is finishing with me, and the nurse is asking me if I have any concerns about DH and a girl. I was still sobbing, from the hormones and pain and the "oops, I told him the wrong sex" thing.

They thought he was going to be upset about having a girl, and were checking on our safety (which is why they pulled her and him away to a far corner in the room right away, instead of letting us bond with her right then and there). I'm glad they were on top of it, for other people who might need it...but we were fine. I was just coming off the pain (because Demerol did take the edge...but the rest of the blade of pain was still there).

So, we had a daughter, and a funny and sad story to tell.

Wow..that was a great story, thanks for taking the time to share it. I was LOL when the pretty little DT and TID got soaked, serves her right. Who goes into a labor room looking like that (even if you have a meeting in the afternoon!). Glad to hear your daughter was born safely, and that everything turned out okay in the end. Hope your daughter has a lovely 27'th birthday tomorrow!

Do I know about July in hospitals! Lol! Living it as we speak!

#1 Was in many parades in colorguard! Some were very HOT where they had to spray us with water and despite that, some were passing out! I remember doing three parades in one day including the Feasts in the North End of Boston. :goodvibes

#2 I was just thinking yesterday that July 4th last year was my mother's last outing. But no sadness, she had a great time, on the beach, watching fireworks, with light up twirler, and even a glass of beer in her hand! Had watched a beautiful parade with her earlier in the day. So that will always be a nice memory for me! :lovestruc

Just remembered a funny one - same parade, different year. We watched a VERY well known political candidate (ran for president one year) sneak out of the parade to a waiting car once it got past the cameras! :rotfl2:

You don't have to turn all things off, just the big use items.....AC, pool, DH's power tools.

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July.

1. Yes many over the years.....kids were in scouts and sports and we lived in a small town, so we walked in a lot.
I rode a horse in one when I was a kid. It was for a rodeo

2. When we lived in WA on acreage, we had huge July 4th parties. 50-100 people. Loads of food, bonfire, fireworks that went on for hours.

Meriweather and Bianca and Bernard, Happy Birthday to your daughters!

I'm a little jealous of those of you that can turn off your AC. I am of "that certain age" where periodically throughout the day, I experience those lovely little power surges that cause me to turn bright red and sweat profusely, even when it's only 70 degrees outside. Once it's over 75 degrees, I need the AC. We have awful electricity bills here - the "delivery" charge is always more than the actual "usage" charge. Many people are going the solar route because we get so ripped off by the electric company.

Let's start the new week of Monday, 6/29, with a double QOTD:

QOTD #1: Thinking of Summertime, have you ever participated in a parade? If no, what is your favorite parade to watch?

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July.
#1: I have never been in a parade. I probably would have been this past Memorial Day, if things had been normal and Josh's soccer hadn't been canceled. The town league always marches in that parade - not every child, but I think those who want to can. We usually attend that parade and the July 4th, but the Memorial Day parade is longer and has more participants. The middle school and high school bands are in it, but not the July 4th. Same with the town kids' sports leagues. The July 4th parade, we get a lot of state and local politicians marching and shaking hands. I try to smile and be polite, say hello, but in my mind I'm thinking, "You're so full of it, just keep walking..." ;)

We also used to like the East Longmeadow, MA 4th of July parade. It's a LONG one...we would park at my SIL's parents' house and walk down the main road about 1/4 of a mile to find a good spot. We'd have to go early, because it's very popular - 3-4 rows of people deep on each side of the road. Kind of like a Disney parade, I guess! Fire trucks come from cities all around, even some from our town. One town up there has some very cool bright chartreuse fire trucks. They have the usual Shriners on go-karts, the Civil War re-enactors, all kinds of groups from all over. It's usually at least 2 hours long.

A funny story from our 4th of July parade, 2 years ago...DH is originally from MA, and being a hockey fan, he grew up going to AHL games with the Springfield (Indians, then Falcons, now Thunderbirds). At this particular parade, he wore his Springfield Thunderbirds baseball hat. Well, since we're in CT now...here comes the Hartford Wolfpack (the 2 teams are rivals) mascot, on our side of the street. He sees DH, stops, and stands there staring with his hands on his hips. We're like, what...what did we do? Then he comes over to DH, shakes his hand, and points to his hat. So last year, I made DH wear his Hartford Whalers hat - and he got a thumbs up from the Wolf.

#2: Hm...I don't really have anything specific, I don't think. I always liked the last day of school, of course. My HS graduation was in June. I remember that my best-friend-at-the-time and I were almost together in the alphabetical order line, but the boy we both crushed on was between us. So right before we left the auditorium for the ceremony, we stood, then hugged each other - with the boy right in the middle of it! He was surprised, but he also laughed and I got a hug back (as I was facing him).

My baby shower was at the end of June as well. A photo of the cake came up in my memories the other day on FB. I still have the plastic "BABY" blocks and balloons that decorated it. And I remember how everyone's tongue turned blue from the frosting!
