QOTD #1: Thinking of Summertime, have you ever participated in a parade? If no, what is your favorite parade to watch?

Yes, I was in the Amvets Auxiliary and was in many Memorial Day and July 4th parades with that group. As a teen, I was in Rainbow Girls (a branch of the Masons and Eastern Star) and marched in July 4th parades with them.

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July

We usually take our family vacation late May/early June each year and have many great memories of those times. We are not taking any vacation this year, except to take our daughter to college in August. Hopefully, we can get a family vacation in next year.

Parades - lets see I was in one in high school, my boarding school riding team was in the local town parade but I can't for the life of me recall what holiday it was. Thanksgiving or Christmas maybe? My kids have been in one or two - I think with school groups as well - once at Christmas and once in May (town we lived in had a Dogwood Festival each year).

As for a Positive memory in June or July? Well, we used to always have a big throw-down for July 4th, but that has disbanded. Those were a long day but a lot of fun! I suspect my baby showers were maybe in July (early fall babies) but in truth I can't remember! I do like a hazy, hot, humid lazy summer day, and love a summer Thunderstorm, so I'm sure I've had plenty of those in July ha ha!

Thanks everyone for sharing your parade and other early Summer memories with us. I have enjoyed reading them all. :)

An A/C FYI, our new ones both have remote controls that in normal times would (one day will)! allow us to set when we want the A/C to turn on. Pretend we plan to be home at noon and it's a very hot day. We could set the A/C to turn on at 11am so it would not need to be on the entire time we were gone (but long enough to be very cool when we got home). One of our old window A/C's had the same timer device which was so handy.

Prayers each of you is having a good Tuesday and remembering to take care of yourselves, too!

We have smart thermostats too

I was in parades when I was in girl scouts in elementary school. Our town had a Memorial Day parade that the scouts marched in.

For a July memory, DH and I got married in July. I lived near on the coast so while it was a warm day, we had a nice sea breeze to help make it cooler. The windows in the church were open so it was light and airy. It was a really nice time and much more low key than most weddings are these days and cost a lot less. The next day we went on our honeymoon to WDW. That was back when it was only MK. So we had to add in places outside of WDW like the Hollywood Wax Museum in Orlando, Cypress Gardens, Kennedy Space Center, and a few other little local places like a local zoo. That began a life long love of Disney!

"Exciting" day today - grocery shopping at Aldi's first and then Food Lion. No large marshmallows of any brand at Food Lion. Didn't look at Aldi's. Otherwise, I got everything. Did some laundry. Made my mammogram appt. All those sort of fun things. Getting ready to make some turkey/feta/spinach burgers for dinner with enough to freeze for three more meals. Will have that with left over potato salad, deviled eggs, and sliced tomatoes.

@flyingdumbo127, yay for a new phone.

Fun reading all the memories.

We also honeymooned in WDW in October 1984. Stayed at the Contemporary.

Let's start the new week of Monday, 6/29, with a double QOTD:

QOTD #1: Thinking of Summertime, have you ever participated in a parade? If no, what is your favorite parade to watch?

QOTD #2: Share a positive memory with us from June or early July.
#1 - I have never been in a parade. Kids were some in marching band. Two favorite parades. DH and I like to watch the Rose Parade on TV on New Years Day and would love to go see it someday. More locally, we like the 4th of July parade in Towson, MD, a suburb of Baltimore. I went to it every year as a child. Now we live about an hour away but started going again 5 or 10 years ago. DH and I, being empty nesters, would drive down, watch the parade, go out to lunch somewhere in the area then drive home.

#2 - One that just came up in Facebook memories was a meet in Pittsburgh in late June 2014. Four other ladies and myself , plus spouses and a couple of kids, met in Pittsburgh. We all met on the DISboards. Went to a Pirates game, ate at Primanti's, took the incline up Mount Washington, rode the Duck Boats, went to the Strip. We had a great time. The same group, plus others, have done summer meets in Rhode Island and Baltimore.

So nice to read all of your memories of happy times, thank you again for sharing them :)

Tuesday Gratitude:

Nice emails and PM's

Friendly snail mail letter from a friend

Being able once again to order needed items on both Wal-Mart and Amazon (I feel extra thankful for this because it's something I can directly do to help limit my Dad being out in stores plus saves us money long-run to plan ahead).

I can't believe tomorrow is only Wednesday! I've thought both yesterday and today that we had to be further into the week! It is a new month, new beginning, and I am most grateful to God for it and each of you continuing to join me here daily for a kind place to check into :)

Yesterday’s questions:

yes, I’ve been in a few parades, mostly as a parent volunteer for DS’s activities when he was little.

my favorite July memories are going to fireworks displays with my mom when I was a kid. They were one of her favorite things, and still make me feel close to her.

What?? Page two? That is no good.

Happy Wednesday and happy another new month.

QOTD for July 1. What do you usually do July 4th and what are you doing this year?

We usually go to a parade, out to lunch then maybe a cookout with family. Local fireworks. This year, there is a concert online at the National Cathedral Saturday morning I'll try to watch. Then DD and family are coming for a cookout Sunday as she has plans with friends Saturday. DS works both days. No parades and no local fireworks, except the loud ones in the neighborhood nearly every night.

QOTD for July 1. What do you usually do July 4th and what are you doing this year?...
Sadly, no Disneyland this year -- usually it's DLR for fireworks and dinner/swing dancing. So we'll have fun in other ways. Will be making Pioneer Woman's Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork (but with Root Beer instead) -- such an easy recipe and one of DH's favorites. We'll also be making ice cream sundaes -- I made a stone fruit compote last night, so that's ready to go. We'll watch "Gettysburg," "1776," and try to fit "Hamilton" into the mix (but I want to study the lyrics first to make sure that we're up on the basic history so we can appreciate the show). Might do some baking, too, so we can share with the neighbors.
ETA: DH scored a pork shoulder at the butcher shop! Our local supermarkets haven't had those for a long time, so we weren't sure we would find one. Pulled pork here we come! :)

Our 'usual' July 4th has been rather low-key these past few years, after years of big family celebrations. I think this year will be equally low-key. Kids I suspect will be out on the river or bay. We might go crabbing or for a boat ride...but no definitive plans.
I already ordered a book, and may order another one. I may spend a fair bit of the weekend indulging in some reading!
I can take or leave fireworks, and don't think any are happening around here anyway. We will hear/see the usual private folks sending some off here and there I'm guessing.
My parents are coming up from FL (we have a in-law apartment in our place for them) tomorrow or Friday as they are about to be in-between homes (selling one they are in, building another in FL plus just sold their vacation home in another local), not sure how long they'll be staying - with them it could be days or weeks! They are enjoying the hell out of retirement, even if they can't travel much at the moment!

Same thing as in the past few years, pretty much nothing. Kids and grandkids are scattered from WV to Ocean City, so it's just us. Need to make a grocery run in the morning, then will bbq in the afternoon if weather permits. Plan on making devilled eggs, potato salad, steaks, and getting a small watermelon. Will watch the local fireworks from our front porch, and maybe watch some on tv if we feel like it. Wish we had Disney+ just to watch Hamilton but we don't, and we don't need anymore choices of things to watch lol

Page two or the bottom of page one is indeed no good! You are so right, Breezy Carol, thank you for bringing this thread back up where it belongs :)

QOTD for July 1st: What do you usually do July 4th and what are you doing this year?

In normal times, July 4th usually is part of one week of Summer camps at church. Church is always closed that day or this year would have been closed on Friday, July 3rd since the 4th is on Saturday. I would have welcomed a day off! I have never been a fireworks fan at all. Do not care for the loud noise and in fact that can be a TMJ trigger. I wish there were options of seeing the colors without the noise and in a safer way. I am old enough to remember the water light show at Sea World. So something similar to that would be fun for me :)

Question for anyone that knows about transponders for toll roads...So yesterday my mom drove from CT to Illinois. We have an EZ Pass from MA that is active, the credit card on file (to replenish the account when it goes below $20) is correct and current, her car is active on the account, and there was almost $30 in the account. She breezed right through the first 2 gantries (at 75 cents each). The third one (leaving Indiana and going into Illinois), she had to pull up, stop, and wait for the system to read the transponder before the gate would go up. She sat there...and sat there...large line gathering behind her...the gate wouldn't go up, so she had to call for help. The attendant took his time getting there (of course) and right away said there was a problem with the transponder, and we'd have to call EZ Pass. He made her get out of the car and swipe her credit card to get through. She was mad and embarrassed, of course, and called me to yell at me. The transactions posted this morning, and there are the 2 early charges, then 2 more charges from gantries in Illinois - so AFTER she had a problem. We can't figure out what happened. The only thing I can think at this moment is that maybe the batteries in the transponder are dying? That happened to my in-laws once and they had no idea. My aunt told her that maybe the transponder has gone bad, but then why would it work through 2 more gantries? Other than that, I joked that maybe it read her CT license plate and didn't want to let her out because she didn't quarantine for 2 weeks... ;)

What?? Page two? That is no good.

Happy Wednesday and happy another new month.

Our town usually has a HUGE 3-day July 4th celebration with a "Taste of" the town, craft fair, kids' games and mini-marathons, parade, Sunday night fireworks, and concerts (some years back we saw Blue Oyster Cult...a year or two ago it was Kip Winger and Lita Ford). This celebration usually makes several "Best of" lists in the whole nation. We normally would go to the parade, have DH grill dinner, and go to the fireworks (we typically don't go to anything else because it's crazy down there on the town green...there is NO PLACE to park. We watch the fireworks from one of the mall parking lots because if you go to the town green, you'll be in traffic for at least 3 hours afterward). Before we had Josh, we went to the East Longmeadow, MA parade, but we have to get there extremely early and the parade itself is at least 2 hours, so it's like being gone all day. DH doesn't want to do that when the holiday falls in the middle of the week; he feels like he wasted a day off from work. Of course this year the holiday would be on a weekend, but all of the parades and fireworks are canceled. We're not missing the fireworks, as our lovely fellow residents have been setting off 2-hour fireworks shows starting at 9 or 10 p.m. every night for the past several weeks. We'll probably still grill some dinner, let Josh stay up and play with these little light-up gliders that we found at Home Depot, hopefully there will be something on TV like the Capitol Fourth or Boston Pops or something of the sort... :confused3

QOTD for July 1. What do you usually do July 4th and what are you doing this year?

Usually we have a cookout and go see fireworks if we're home. But we often go see my in-laws and we have a pool party at my BIL and SIL's place.

This year, no fireworks--official, anyway. (I'm sure they'll be setting them off in our neighborhood all weekend. ) DW and I plan to go to our local farmer's market and then go hiking--probably a small cookout when we get back.

A few questions behind. - parade. My hometown did a Christmas parade the Friday night after thanksgiving . It was in the evening and all the floats, and dance troops batons or bands tubas were decorated with lights.

Happy belated birthday to your daughter ! Another time not to have a baby is mid September. They were doing sept. 11 th emergency drills and only 1 young doc on duty who didn’t check me for 2 hours!!

4 th of July. I love, love, love fireworks. Try to drive and see different ones. Some towns due there’s the week before or the Sunday after the 4 th. My parents wedding anniversary is July 3 rd and they went to Disneyland on July 4 th before going onto Hawaii. Thus was huge for them coming from the Midwest.
Now I enjoy a family picnic, cornhole, euchre, watermelon and s’mores
