Going to pick up DD#2 from the hospital after lunch, then we have to drop off her pain med 'script at the CVS (if they didn't send it electronically). I'm hoping the hospital sent it, so we can just stop and pick it up while we're out, because I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it for her (she has Tricare, so there might be rules on that, IDK).

We're having hamburgers, potato puffs (aka tater tots), and some veggies for lunch. Tijuana Flats has their Thursday burrito deal ($5.99 for burrito, chips and drink), so we're doing that for dinner.

DH taught DGS#2 how to ask the Echo dot to make fart noises. :sad2: I've had to listen to fart noises for the last two days. /sigh

So glad that your DD#2 is able to come home! Hope that her recovery continues to be smooth and trouble free. Your comment about your DH and DGS#2 made me laugh -- in a weird way, it is reassuring to know that there are some things this pandemic just cannot change. lol. :)

Bianca and Bernard, I'm so sorry about your daughter and her friend, but I'm glad DD was able to come home. And I'm angry as well about the people in the other car...many of us go through hell and back to have a child, and here some people are so cavalier about their children...it triggers my PTSD. I'd love to slap them, even though they still probably wouldn't get it.

Tina, I understand feeling guilty putting your mom in a home - I felt awful every time one of my grandparents had to go to a home, even if they were only there for rehab. So many other residents were there for life, and it always made me sad to see them sitting in the doorways to their rooms, just waiting for something "interesting" to do. But on the other hand, it's for the best when they need round-the-clock care. Big  .

Right after I posted on Tuesday, Josh began having a 2-day meltdown. I can't even remember what it was about now. Yesterday he burst his "splat shark" on the sofa, and whatever that fluid inside was, it stung my hands when I touched it (the packaging did say "do not touch fluid if toy leaks." That's a bit concerning. I looked it up later; it's made out of stuff that also makes paint thinner, nail polish remover, and glue). So I had to wash him, get the sofa cover into the wash, scrub the cushions, wash the legos (which caused another issue...I dumped the legos in the kitchen sink so I could wash Josh's hands first. I told my mother not to touch the legos, but she took them out of the sink and put them on the counter, right where we'd be putting food. Then she got mad at me when I tossed them back into the sink and told her again that the fluid burns and we don't want what that on our food.

Later, DH took Josh outside, and I suddenly noticed that there was crayon scribbled all over a photo of my grandfather (my favorite photo of him...taken in 1943/44, when he was in the Marines during WWII). Not on the photo itself; it's framed and behind a piece of acrylic. But it's the idea that he colored on a photo in the first place, especially one that he knows is special to me. It's in a sculpted USMC frame, too, that's no longer available. Luckily I was able to get the crayon off.

Today we went to Costco this morning. Not too bad. My mom made chocolate chip cookies yesterday, and as we came in here to sit down, Josh noticed and asked me for one of mine. I let him have it, and he asked me for another one before he was done chewing the last bit of the first one. I told him he'd have to wait a minute, so he started dancing around, getting closer inch by inch, and tried to take another one of mine. The kid has NO patience whatsoever. I don't know how to get it into him either. I don't even have his lunch made and put in front of him before he's saying "You forgot my drink," "I want my tablet," etc. He wants everything yesterday...

And just now, he threw his tablet at me and told me "It needs to be plugged in NOW." Keep talking to me like that, kiddo, and it can go down to zero for all I care...

I don't think anyone has asked a question today so I'll make one up.

QOTD - What is your favorite flower?

I think I would pick a brightly colored Gerber daisy, if I was picking just one.
I love Gerber daisies. I also love tropical hibiscus - I worked for a plant nursery for a short time many years ago and I fell in love with the "blue" ones. I like flowers that are unusually colored - like this year, we got some "night sky" petunias (they're bluish-purple and look like they've been spattered with white paint), and I saw some other flowers that were blackish-purple with yellow edgesIMG_20200507_114424995.jpg

And I will always love my black roses :)

:hug:apirateslifeforme. I pray you are okay from the chemical! That type of fluid should not be inside toys! I'm sorry to hear Josh was having such a hard time, too. It must be so hard to be so young right now and just not be able to understand the mess of this plague (nor should anyone so young have to :(( I'm sorry he and other kiddos do. Of course, never okay to be demanding that way of anyone! Take care, my friend.

@Bianca and Bernard Praying for continued recovery for your DD and BFF. So glad things didn't turn out worse. A relative had an accident with an uninsured driver and it was tough. Relative didn't survive and there were lots of issues with medical bills on top of the tragedy of loss of life.

Favorite flower: Hard to pick one as I love so many. Visually I love Black Eyed Susans. Aromatically I love roses and lilacs.

@apirateslifeforme is there anything that Josh does that requires him to give of himself? That might help him in his development of patience and compassion for others. In a way it wasn't such a bad thing that I developed cancer when my kids were five/about to turn six. They had little choice but to become sensitive to my needs, and to even help take care of me sometimes during chemo, as well as learn a bunch of other life lessons related to my illness as my treatment progressed. I wouldn't have wished it on us or them but it was our life story and I think it altered the course for how they viewed the world and who they became in life in some ways. Empathy is important for children to understand. Even for their Moms. Sometimes he should serve you. And care for you. My DS is the type who is always on the go, too, and sometimes impatient and always wanting to do things, etc. I've had to help him slow down a bit in order to smell the roses (pun intended!) as well as have him give of himself, too. (And he learned it on his own in his athletic career - being part of any team is a good thing for many children.) Watching him now with his girlfriend (and I'm guessing future wife) has been very interesting. I know he learned his lessons because I see it in how he treats her. And also how he is out in the world. I've seen your pics of Josh and I think he is absolutely adorable and looks like a super sweet little boy! :lovestruc (As was and is mine.) Just help him slow it down a little and learn to understand how it is to be in the other person's shoes. Insist on it.

@lovemygoofy Your Mom is in my prayers. You've absolutely no need to feel guilty. I've followed your posts for a long time. You did the right thing.

@flyingdumbo127 Maybe people can just jump in with a QOTD if they see one hasn't been posted, rather than having an official "process". That way if something strikes us we can post it, or maybe some who aren't totally regular posters might be able to contribute from time to time, as well? Just a thought. I would favor just keeping it simple as, in these times we're all living right now, anything that causes less stress is a good thing!

What a great post, Pea-n-Me. God Bless you indeed and thank you for teaching your children to be kind! I love your suggestion for Josh to find some way to extend himself. At church we used to do for years Operation Christmas Child. Even the youngest kids would help pack a shoebox. That became too costly (shipping costs for those boxes) and sadly it was discontinued and not yet replaced. I think years ago there was a Kids Acts of Kindness book? I realize it may be too old for Josh but perhaps he could make his own. I actually recently suggested to my church pastor that in our weekly newsletter which now is so tiny, we dedicate a page on which a few members could share a good news story or a kindness they have shown or received recently. I have not yet heard back but I would love to read such stories :)

Amen to keeping things simple in general! Also, sometimes our thoughts change on a question so fun to take another look :) I definitely pray all on here feel welcome to jump in with a QOTD! I will keep track of them for now so should anyone wonder or one day we want to take a look back we will be able to do that. I would enjoy one day post plague, in some manner, compiling some of our answers :)

Lynxstch I did look up the Galaxy S10 thank you for that recommendation. It's just too pricey for me! I had in mind under $200. Called a Verizon store and they recommended the Galaxy A10E. Anyone have that? They also said basic phones typically last only 2 years--awful! :( I also don't want to invest money into a new phone to have the same issues as now so I realize that may require a bigger investment....

Hug to all!

I agree with Pea-n-Me. I didn't know how to word it. I think the QOTD is just something to keep the thread from dropping, just a talking point. Lets not make it more work of you or someone else.

My favorite flower is a daisy. I also like sunflowers. I had daisies in my wedding bouquet. My mother grew beautiful sunflowers in her garden.

I have been feeling a bit funky this week. Work is getting to be a bit much. They cut my hours to 24 a week and yet I get the expectation that I have to do almost as much as when I worked 40 hours. The bosses said at the time hours were cut that they don't expect us to get as much work done and that is fine. I had a meeting with my direct manager this week and he keeps adding things he wants done. I tell him I only have 24 hours a week and he thinks it is fine. Crazy person that I am I have been doing some work off the clock and DH is getting after me about it. Oh well, my vent for today. Not the worst problem to have.

Tina: don't feel bad about having to place your mother in a nursing home. She is getting the care she needs. I felt like that at first about my father but he needed 24 hour a day care that we could not give him. She is blessed to have such a loving and caring daughter.

Take care of yourself, Snowysmom! I have been in a situation where overtime was not paid. It escalated quickly into my not being paid what I should have been. Amen to what you said about Tina's mom and your dad, too. My Grandma was in both Assisted Living and a Nursing Home--so hard to both but needed.

I want to be sure and say big hug to all. It was never my intent to make the QOTD work for anyone. It was fun to go back and see where we started with them :) I am now more than ever all about keeping things simpler! I have learned the hard way that when you take on too much or allow a situation that is unhealthy to continue it takes a toll big time. I pray every day that God might use me as He sees fit to serve and witness with joy and in health. I know I would not be able to do either if not taking care of me. I pray each of you are taking care of yourselves, getting rest and of spirit! So important.

Square Trade once again provided fantastic service! Upon receipt of my old phone we will get a check for $124. I also meant to say earlier that a new phone does not necessarily need to be a Galaxy just that lol I am not too techy or into being techy and have become familiar with it :)

I may have missed posting gratitude yesterday so will share 6 today :)

Grateful to be stocked up now on disinfecting and antibacterial wipes thanks to Target and 99 Cent Only yesterday.
A very enjoyable phone conversation yesterday with a dear friend.
Cooler weather is always a Blessing
Square Trade's great service
A sweet PM from a fellow Dis-er
Worth always repeating, each of you!

I have so many flower favorites.... but I guess if I had to choose one it would be Ranunculus, followed by peonies and irises. I may have to buy myself some flowers tomorrow, I have been having a horrible time at my job, my boss is very unethical and it is really getting to me. DH says to quit, but at 61, I don't like the idea of changing jobs.

Late to the party, but:

Favorite flavor of ice cream: matcha/green tea

Has a nice earthy flavor with a subtle sweetness.

Favorite flower: hard pick, but I suppose I would have to say the classic... roses. I am partial to black magic roses, which were my wedding flower, but I love roses. When we first moved to my parents' house when I was young, my dad planted a bunch of rose bushes. I've loved them ever since.

I also love cymbidium orchids.

I totally understand. At age 64 I was laid off from a job that I loved and expected to keep until retirement. I had been there 8 years but they got rid of all physical therapists and went to nursing only. So I found another job that I only stayed at for 1 year, it just wasn't a good fit. But yeah, looking for a job at age 64 was a real drag.

:hug:Dazedx3, I am so sorry you are in such a situation especially right now with all that is going on! :( I pray for peaceful relief for you! My very first teaching job turned into an unsafe and unhealthy situation (environment). So sad, too, because for years after, another teacher and I would say had things been different we would have stayed on. Take care of yourself and stay safe!

A fun Friday QOTD to bring a smile now and in thinking about the future, what do you most look forward to enjoying eating at our Minnie's Breakfast? ::MinnieMoWhat character at the breakfast would be most fun for you to meet?

I never much thought about chocolate chip muffins until tasting a ::MinnieMo version at her breakfast several years ago. They were so tasty! Paws (Do mice have paws :))? down better than the huge version sold at Jolly Holiday. Non dessert item will probably be a Mickey waffle, of course! At Minnie's breakfast you have to meet the hostess! Besides Minnie, I always enjoy meeting Pooh. He was said to be a bear of little brain (which I never agreed with or liked) because what counted is he loved everyone and was a good friend. pooh:

Happy Friday to all!

Definitely a Mickey Waffle! I love those.

The website says the characters change, so I don't really know who I'm choosing from, but if they're there, Chip and Dale are usually my favorites.
