Tina, congrats to Matt on the job and to you on continuing your education!
I met a new neighbor yesterday while Josh and I took our walk. She's lived in the neighborhood since 2016, but turns out that I graduated from high school with her brother. Small world. She has twin daughters that will be going into 3rd grade in the fall, so not in Josh's school, but they will be on the same bus - all the kids in the neighborhood go on one bus, the then 3rd-5th graders get dropped off at their school, the K-2nd graders at their school after that. The bus is what scares me about sending my little guy to the big school in the fall, but getting to know some of the local kids is easing my mind. Sounds like they'll look out for him. Good to know that the kindergarteners are supposed to sit up front as well. I just worry about the adults at the school putting him on the correct bus in the afternoon, too. Of course, it's not like when I was in elementary school...we rarely had the same driver in the morning as in the afternoon, let alone from day to day. We were just let loose when the buses arrived - and they all arrived at the same time! - so we'd have to go from bus to bus, asking the driver if it was bus number whatever and hoping they didn't start driving away while we were still trying to find the correct bus (which they sometimes did).
It's hot and humid here, as it has been for a few days now and will be for most of next week. My mom bought a really good window AC last year and it's keeping the entire first floor cool (just a fan going in the living room). We spent a good part of today outside in the little kiddie pool and on the splash pad. Nice way to usher in the summer.
Question for today.... how do you get ready for the day? Do you shower and get ready as soon as you wake up? Or do you wait until you have somewhere to go or something to do? And does it take you a long time to get ready or are you fast?
I usually shower in the evening - I don't like to go to bed feeling sweaty and icky. And since I don't get dirty in bed, I don't have to shower in the morning (although I do have to re-wash my hair every few days). During the week, I get up around 6:15, make coffee and do computer stuff. Try to watch a little news and some GMA. DH leaves for work about an hour later. Lately Josh has been getting up 5-15 minutes after me, so I haven't been able to watch news; I have to get him to the potty, fix his yogurt drink, and find something for him to watch (I'll suffer through Spongebob Squarepants at that time, because it's only for 30 minutes and then we get Paw Patrol and Blues Clues, which are much better). After DH leaves, I'll go back upstairs to get dressed, brush teeth, and comb hair, then come back and get Josh's breakfast. Takes him at least an hour to eat (always fruit, sometimes mini donuts, sometimes toast, sometimes a pancake).
After he finally eats, he brushes his teeth and gets dressed. Then, right now with the summer heat, we go outside to take our walk - we usually do one mile around one loop, but lately he's wanted to go around both loops (we live in the middle street of a figure-8) plus down and around 3 dead ends, so it's about 2.5 miles the whole way. Sometimes he walks, sometimes he rides his
scooter. After our walk, he draws with chalk on the driveway and scooters a bit more. Then we go back inside for lunch, after which we do a "Walk Away the Pounds" workout on YouTube, then watch a movie, or play games, or every other day we do Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube.
Now that we've been venturing out a little, if I have to wash my hair, it only takes me about 15 minutes to get ready and we can go out. If we do run errands, we usually don't get our neighborhood walk in, but we do the YouTube stuff.
