Purse Wallet Stolen at Epcot

I am sorry this happened to you, and especially on your vacation. You're supposed to get away from it all during a vacation.

I really hope and pray that your purse shows up intact.

Unbelievable - you 'helped' her to lose custody and caused her to get fired from her job because she stole your purse? And you brag it up on here? Must be proud of yourself...sheesh.

Just a thought...
None of us knows all the details of both sides of this story- not even shallwechat,
who only can testify to her side of the story, and not the purse-stealer's side.

There's no doubt that many people are facing terribly tough times in this economy :(
people are tempted to do things that they know they should not do.
If I were facing a tough time like that, though, I would not be at WDW :rotfl:

But, if I were going through a divorce, and my soon to be ex was contributing to the delinquency of a minor-
my child by teaching them to steal :furious:, ordering my child to do so,
I would be incredibly grateful:worship: to the person who cared enough to do the right thing, and tell ME, the other parent,
so I could stop my child from having to live that kind of life.:worried:
To do anything less would have been irresponsible to the child.

That being said, I don't think I would have bothered to contact her employer... mostly because I am a little lazy:rotfl2: but also because everyone needs a job and without one, her life just got 100 X harder... :confused3

I didn't say I was proud but she chose to do what she did....and teaching her child to do such horrible things is unexcusable. Thank goodness the child had her wits about her enough to tell her father. She stole everything from me at the time.......we had to have money wired from home and new keys made for our vehicle, which was a nightmare in itself. She even stole my child's seizure medicine and hubby's bp meds. From what I "saw", this wasn't her first time doing this. She deserved everything she got! Hopefully she learned her lesson this time. And evidently times weren't too hard, she was at Disney World.

Everyone thanks so much for all the prayers. I don't know how to post multiple quotes in one reply. Need to learn that..

Okay here is the unfortunate update to my stolen wallet.

They were using my phone to call Haiti. I didn't think much about my phone since I was at a conference. I suspended my phone on Tuesday but not before this person/people could call Haiti and run up my bill. One call was 26 minutes. Gannon at the Contemporary took me to the business center to file a police report and print it so I have a record.

I have given up getting anything back but I feel really violated:scared1:. I have always turned everything in that I find. Its the right thing.

I am just annoyed at having to get things reissued and that I left it there in the first place.

I just feel like they know where I live and thats creepy. Hope they enjoyed my hard earned cash and gift cards and stealing my phone.

I don't want to let one bad apple spoil the bunch but I feel untrustful of everyone now!!! and I am a very very trusting person.

Because it would be so much better to let the kid continue to be trained as a thief my her mom. That's such a good parent model :rotfl2:

Now back to the subject at hand.

Sorry this happened to OP but to everyone else reading this. There is NO PIXIE DUST at Disney. Repeat that a few times.

So don't carry more cash then you can afford to lose. Don't carry things that will break your heart if they are gone. There's no need to take your Macy's/Tablots/Target/etc... card to the park. Disney doesn't take them! There's no need for your home keys etc (unless of course you live in the area or drove your own car) Strip down to just what you need. Either leave the extras at home or in your hotel room safe. I either have my KTTW card or one credit card, a DL and a few bucks. If it's gone the DL is the big PIA but....stopping one credit card, easy!

Haiti... yeesh...
Sorry your stuff are gone... :(
I hope you get all those extra charges straightened out and you won't have to pay them.

As for being trusting, I used to be as well but then I learn that it's ok to be weary of people... so don't feel too badly if you do. :thumbsup2

I'm very sorry this happened, and I hope you are able to fly home ok.

Call your cell provider and see if they will cancel the charges for the calls you didn't make.

Actually, I've used my Target Visa and Macy's MC at WDW, but, I normally follow this good advice. I don't even like to carry my Disney Visa with me into the park--no need to, because it is on my room key. Usually, I bring only two charge cards with me on a trip--the one I plan to use to charge to the room, and a back up one in case something happens to the first. But, I have a safe at home, and I lock up all my cash and most of my credit cards every day, routinely. Only carry what I think I am going to use that day. I used to not even carry my purse to go to work--I had a copy of my driver's license in my car. We don't really have a secure place at my office for me to keep my personal belongings, but, I worried about not having my license..

I, like some of the others on this thread, have frequently found things, and always turn them in. My last experience with this was finding a cell phone in a store. I waited to finish shopping, planning to turn it in when I finished paying for my purchase. Guess who was right in front of us at the checkout? The husband of the person who lost the phone. The phone rang, and he recognized the ring (he was trying to call the phone). Didn't even have a chance to turn it in. The bad news is that the fellow didn't thank me. Not that I expected it.

But, several years ago, I found a wallet in a rest area between Tampa and Ft. Myers. It had an ID in it, but no money or credit cards. I mailed it to its owner, but disguised my name and used my work po box address.so I wouldn't be accused of stealing the money, if there had been any in it. This really nice person (he was an Asian student at the University of Illinois) wrote me a nice letter thanking me for returning his wallet. Apparently, he didn't realize that "Gizmo" wasn't my real name:) The wallet was probably waiting for him when he got back from spring break.

The most common place for a stolen handbag/wallet to turn up is in a trashcan in the nearest public restroom. Thieves will go into a stall to rifle through it in privacy and then will ditch what they do not want. I had my bag taken in the Superdome once and sure enough, found it in the nearest bathroom (minus all cash, of course.)

Once when I was at IOA a few years ago I found a wallet on the ground under one of the slides in the playground by the Amber Caves. It was still intact, cash and all -- I figure it must have fallen from someone's pocket while he was chasing a child. When I tried to give it to an employee in the area he looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I really wanted to turn it in? :rolleyes2

I don't blame her. That lady deserved what she got.

I agree completely. What the parent did was despicable, and she certainly didn't need to be responsible for a child.

To quote multiple posts...just click on the " marks at the bottom righthand corner of the post you want to quote. You click on the " for each one you want to quote, then hit the reply button at the bottom of the thread like normal. Of course to only reply to one quote, just hit the quote word at the bottom right and it will take you straight to the page to type your response.

So sorry that things arent going to work out nicely for you. People are so nasty!

I really hope you get your bag back! I'll send a little prayer to St Anthony, the patron saint of lost things, on your behalf. I'm so afraid of what happened to you that I keep our tickets, money, gift cards, credit cards and IDs in a waterproof lanyard I wear around my neck. So far so good.

On a positive note, my husband is notorious for losing his wallet and finding it again. He left it in the seat back pocket on a flight from Virginia to Hawaii, left it on the roof of the car and drove off when we were vacationing in NC, and just last week, left it on the table at a frozen yogurt shop. He got it back all three times so there is hope!!!

Tony, Tony finds all!

Is there not a way to find out who has your phone by the phone calls? Were they calling family maybe? I guess our laws don't span across the different countries?

I'm sorry that it's turning out this way.....I really hoped that you'd retrieve your purse and all it's contents and it was just taking some time to make it's way through the lost and found system.

Just wondering...can they "ping" your cell phone? A lot of times that can help the police locate it.

My friend just told me an interesting story. She'd just finished eating at a restaurant with her 13-yo son. As they were driving out of the parking lot, he realized he'd left his iPod Touch sitting on the table. They returned inside and their table had already been cleared so they tracked down their waitress. She claimed that there was no iPod on the table when it was cleared. So my friend asked for the manager and he took her contact information and said he'd call her immediately if/when they found it. She figured she'd give them the chance to look for it. When she got home, it dawned on her that her son has a tracking app on his iPod. She "pinged" it and did not get a location. The next day, she "pinged" it again....it's now at the restaurant! The program gives a street-level view of it's exact location. She went back to the restaurant and "pinged" the iPod in front of the manager. She showed him the results and asked for them to return the iPod. Their waitress was there and started making a fuss, complaining that they were "causing a problem" and should be asked to leave because "it's not like anyone stole it." My friend decided to call the police and file a report. She showed the responding officer the results of the "ping" and the manager continued to deny that it was in the building. I don't exactly know everything that happened but she said they were there for 2 hours, searching for the iPod. (I don't know if it was the police, the employees, my friend, or all of them that did the searching). She said that they even searched the waitress's purse but it wasn't there. The next morning (and all through the night...we work nights), it continued to show that it was there. She thinks that it is stashed in a ceiling tile or a toilet paper dispenser or something. The last I heard, she went back to check the public areas of the restaurant for herself.

Anyways, the point is to see if you can ping the phone. It's possible that the thief may still be in the area and the police may be able to find them.

Call your cell provider and see if they will cancel the charges for the calls you didn't make.

I called and they told me that they were before I reported it but I could sign up for $10 international call fee that would cover all the calls. After going back to the website and reading I found out if I have proof it was stolen they can be reviewed to be removed. So I have the police report. I need to see if I can get a copy of the report filed right after loss at Epcot.

My purse with everything from credit cards, varnet sunglasses, phone and all was stolen at Disney years ago. I reported it. Come to find out it was a woman who had sent her 12 year old daughter to pick it up. When I finished with her (and $194 in phone calls later), she lost custody of her child (she was in the middle of a divorce) and she had to make restitution for everything. She also lost her job because I sent a copy of the police report to Denny's Corporate Office.

Hang in there. Hope you get it back. :-(

Payback is a ..... :thumbsup2
