Tell me about it! I think we may be going next Sept/Oct for about 4-5 days. (I always have to be planning something!). Our DDs will be 8 and 4.

Where to stay? Luquillo beach? Should I find something on VRBO? Is all of Luquillo beach ok for swimming or are there areas that are too rough?

Rental cars - any specific places that offer great deals?

I think we will definitely want to do the caves, El Yunque, a day for the beach and then Old San Juan.

Maybe we should stay at 2 different hotels?

Any advice would be appreciated! The more budget friendly the better! How expensive is food there?

I suggest that you buy a good travel guide and check out travel boards, such as tripadvisor.

check out El conquistidor hotel its fabulous has a water park a bit further away from Old San juan about an hour from airport maybe little more a special resort.

Definately get a guide book and do your research-all the things you are talking about visiting can be reached easily by car from a Hotel in Condado or near the airport-but branch out-its a beautiful island and the area around San Juan is only a tiny part of it. We spent a week there a few years ago and didnt think it was nearly long enough. Be aware that driving in San Juan is a challenge. Cars are manufactured for sale in the US so spedometers are in miles per hour-but distances, and speed limits are in kilometers. Exit signs are usually very close to the exits and signage is in Spanish. This occassioned a couple of fights since my husband, who was the driver does not read Spanish and it took a while to figure out that Proxima Salilda-next exit means NOW-buy the time my brainn processed translation we had already over shot.
