Project Runway, Season 5 Official Discussion Thread.

I really thought that Jennifer's sack dress should have been auf'd instead of Emily's. It looked like a dress you'd put on when you'd given up because you're bloated or otherwise feeling fat.

I totally couldn't believe Keith's dress. It looked like a bunch of Post-it notes tacked onto a bulletin board. :p

That's a better description than Michael's "toilet paper in a wind storm" comment!

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck=Sandra Bernhardt

As far as who is out, the producers and the judges decide who goes. It isn't all about the designs unfortunately.

Lori

Also, they only air a tiny fraction of the discussion that goes on between the judges. The 3 or 4 sentences we see may be part of a 2 hour discussion.

I think LeeAnn should have won also=what a comeback from the loser 2 last week to the winning 2 this week!

I can not STAND Stella(?) the leather stud Cher wanna be lookalike-why the heck is she in this show-everything she does is predictable.

I was hoping Jennifer (plain girl #2) would get the boot b/c (1) she is dull, dull, dull; and (2) I would not keep getting her confused with LeeAnn. At least now I am starting to remember LeeAnn has bangs and is more creative, even if her stuff isn't always great.

:lmao: Me too-and would she please stop with the "my style is a combo of Holly go lightly and Salvidor Dali"-no chick, it really isn't!

Hello all! Wanted to join in this discussion. :goodvibes

I also agree that LeeAnn should have won because as Michael Kors said (I think it was him) she learned VERY quickly to self-edit. Plus everyone was wowed that it was separates. I do agree that I think the producers had a heavier hand in this elimination than usual - maybe because they think this was a blue moon moment for LeeAnn, and so don't want to give her a get out of jail free card for next week. :confused3

I also don't like Stella - why is she here???? She doesn't even make nice clothing - it doesn't all have to be lace and gowns, but leather and rock-n-roll can still be classy. Her stuff is so 80s big hair band! And the accent!!! I LOVED when Blayne was making fun of her, with the Forrest Gump-esque leather monologue. :rotfl2:

But is it only me :confused3 or is this season more about "characters" than designers??? I've watched every season from the beginning and usually I have a top 5 within the first episode, but this season, I don't have any favorites AND I am annoyed by many of the "personas".

It seems to me that this season's designers are strange. Like that guy Suede who refers to himself in the 3rd person all the time.

I loved Leanne's dress last night. I was surprised that she didn't win. Especially since Heidi made the comment that she would wear it and it looked like it just came out of the store. I like Kenley too but I think she may be a one trick pony. I don't like Stella. I haven't really formed any opinions past that. Oh, there is a little guy...the one who likes to tan. Can't think of his name, but her seemed really wierd too!

I miss Christian! Seasons 2 & 4 have been my favorites so far. There was a marathon on yesterday of season 2. I was home with sick kids all day so got to see most of it!

I don't really like anyone so far. Kenley is pretty good, but I am really disappointed with the talent. If everything doesn't pick up soon, I may stop watching. I don't think they will be able to top the talent or personalities they had last year.

Hate Stella
Don't like either Plain Girl- I also cannot tell them apart
Hate Blaine

Don't care too much about anyone else.

Ack! Sandra Bernhard!:scared1: I didn't think anyone else had as much plastic surgery as Kathy Griffith or Joan Rivers.

I don't understand why Kenley won, since Michael Kors even said you need one big thigh and one thin thigh, Sandra said it looked like she had a goiter on one leg. Then later, Nina said her dress is perfect and she's the winner. ??? :confused3

OMG! I did not know who Sandra Bernhard was until DD told me but Holy Moly!!!!

I can't understand how that dress won! Whoever wears it will look lopsided

I Hate Sandra Bernhardt!!! I can't believe that she's anyone's idea of someone with a valid idea of what's tasteful or classy.

Blayne is too bizarre, even for reality TV. And Suede, while talented, has got to learn not to refer to himself in 3rd person. I realize it's his schtick, but it makes him look incredibly stupid.

ITA! :thumbsup2

Blayne is one weird dude! Between the sniffling and the strange faces and the rest of his get-up it is like watching some sort of a cartoon character. I have to wonder how the rest of these folks like having him in the same room, I would have nightmares.

Suede is getting old already. Actually that third person thing was old the first time I heard it. If he keeps it up I hope he loses. I am not going to be able to stand the entire season listening to:

"Suede has done it again! Suede is the best thing that happened to jersey and the judges love Suede. Suede has decided that Suede is going to set the pace for fashion and Suede will have all Suede's followers talking just like Suede when they wear Suede's creations because Suede is a trendsetter." :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I am still confused by this bunch.

And poor Tim Gunn doesn't seem to know what to make of them either!! When they did the supermarket challenge, he had to scold them for all choosing tablecloths. The other night, he was reminding them of something and had to ask "Is anyone listening???"

He keeps calling them the most "diverse group ever"... notice he's not saying "talented", just "diverse." They all seem incredibly impressed with themselves, far more impressed than Tim or the Judges.

I always crack up when I hear anyone calling this a "diverse" group. OK, I know they started with 3 black designers, 1 Asian designer and at least 1 straight guy(;) ), but there are the 2 lighter brown haired girls who are interchangable (Jennifer and LeeAnne) and the 2 dark haired girls who are interchangable (Kenley and Emily). And so many who are into urban/rock&roll style. So, how about that diversity?

Oh, and Emily totally reminded me of Loser Lohan's little sister Ali. I was flipping around and saw a tiny bit of the Lohan show and isntantly realized why I did not like Emily much at all. :)

I actually like the girl who won the first (Grocery store) challenge-Blonde with the tatoo arm. She seems to have talent.

I also agree that this group seems to be thrown together without much talent.

I also miss having older, professional women , who tend to balance the young wild kids
-like the Mom :scared1: from Season One.

..or classy red headed Laura from Season (2-3?)

My faves of all time (in the Love Hate catagory) are......

Santino:eek:

Christian

Blayne :rotfl2:

And all the crybabies-like Rickey;)

I know :rotfl:. The poor guy is saddled with this crazy bunch. He is this very dignified man with impeccable taste who is attempting to mentor a group of diva wannabees. If the judges were left for ten minutes in that workroom I bet there would be a different outcome!

.

I never saw Season One. I check the reruns each time but so far there only seems to be Season Two.

I ended up buying Season One:thumbsup2

It's a little 'roughly" done but well worth the Drama Quotient-that Mom was completely NUTS!!! She caused more strife and drama than ANYONE -ever-in the reunion show-NOONE would talk to her-its worth shelling out $20 or so to watch it all:lmao:

Also the Producers REALLY messed up with Season ONe and a celebrity judge ended up picking who the "Final three" would be-and some one who did NOT deserve it (don't want to spoil it for anyone) got in & that was unreal!@

Leanne or Terri should have won.

Kenley should not have won, and I was not excited about her atitude in the NYC streets. (she was mean!)

Sandra Bernhard was an awful judge.

That is what I always thought about Jeffrey and he WON!! I hope she isn't goning to be the winner this season.

I think Daniel should have gone, not the girl (don't remember her name). She was the one with the black dress last week which should have one. If she had, she would have had immunity. Her dress wasn't "Olympic" in any way, but it was cute. Daniels dress was downright ugly.

I also think the 2nd place winner should have won again. He was the only one who had "USA" on the skort. (Don't the Olympic teams generally have USA on their outfits??) 1st & 3rd places were "ok", a little to white/plain for me. Maybe is was the choice of fabric, but the white looked "cheap".

I seriously have to watch the whole thing over as a rerun.

I got all comfortable, ready to watch the ONE show I try to see all week, and suddenly everyone needed mommy!!! As they were announcing the winner, my husband "NEEDED" to show me something in another room. I swear, it was a conspiracy!!!

Which of the 2 final looks won-- the pantsuit with the blazer or the one with the vest?? But I agree- I liked the skorts outfit more. It was better suited to athletes, easy to wear in the heat of a summer stadium, and sportier.

Bolding is mine, b/c it is not the same girl. The one who was robbed of the win last week was Leanne (she has bangs) and the one who was auf'd this week was Jennifer (she made the maternity "clock" dress last week that was in the bottom). Praise the heavens Jennifer got the boot, b/c now no one will be getting Jennifer and LeAnne confused again. ;)

I thought Terri's outfit was very sharp, but I thought either Joe or Kurto deserved the win b/c their outfits would accentuate an athlete's body better, and was not diappointed to see Kurto get tghe win for her pants/vest combo. I was surprised to see so many daggone dresses that did not look sporty at all [aside from the bottom three, I'm looking at you, Kenley!].

WTH was up with the crazy hot mess Jerrell put togehter? How much linger until the judges seriously start to question his taste (or lack thereof)?

Kelli's outfit looked cheap and tacky, like something from a 1960's Sears catalog.

Suede's outfit looked like a Texas cheerleader wannabe.

LeAnne's outfit was cute - I thought the shorts were nice.

From the preview, it looks like they work in pairs next week.

I just can't seem to figure out who anyone is yet. Maybe it's because I watched last night's show while working on a baby quilt and last week I was ironing during the show. Maybe it's because so many of the contestants look alike to me this season. :confused3

That cheerleader outfit would have SO given the wrong impression to the world about our female athletes! Could you imagine the men walking into the Olympics dressed as sports figures and the women walking in dressed as cheerleaders? Sure, cheerleaders are athletes, too, but I just think it would send the wrong message. I let out an audible yelp when I saw that finished product.

I liked the outfit that won the best last night. Dang, I thought Jennifer was the one who created that beautiful black dress last week. I forgot she was the one who made the gunney sack. Thanks for clarifying that one!
