For as creepy as I thouht Malan was last week, I did feel sorry for him, especially after that story he told. Also, didn't Miss USA say no white, it looked like Laura and coffee filter guy used white.

I thought she did too. :confused3 I hated that white dress btw , I mean, she's going to a HUGE pagent, not to her neighbors dinner party.

 Poor Malan. I think he has great style. They sure built him up in the promos only to eliminate him in the 2nd challenge. Wow! I was shocked. I was sure that Angela was gone.
I agree -- they did build Malan up quite a bit in the beginning only to have him out in the 2nd round. Maybe ... the episode where they kick someone off (you know how they've been teasing the "I'm going to have to ask you to leave"), they'll bring him back on to fill that person's shoes? Probably not ... but you never know, esp. if they have to work in teams and it's uneven. I remember on Top Chef, one of the contestants had to leave the show and they brought in a contestant who was eliminated. Same producers, so maybe they'll do it?!?!

Malan's dress did remind of a Yule Tide Log Cake that my mom makes at Christmas! :rotfl:
I *knew* it reminded me of something, but couldn't put my finger on it! You are absolutely right -- it did look like those Yule log cakes!!!!!

Here is a good debate. I noticed that the show had a call in number for you to vote as to who was most responsible for the failed project-Vincent or Angela. Angela can not sketched and may have weak skills but Vincent also contributed to the problems. The team failed but was it all Angela's fault or did Vincent play a role in the collaspe of the team. There were examples when Angela asked to help and Vincent did not let her and other times that when Vincent was ready for some help from Angela and she had wandered off after giving up on Vincent to use her.

I noticed that the poll was fairly close but that a majority of the viewers last night sided with Vincent. I tend to side with Vincent but I do see Angela's point of view.

Angela can not sketched
Did you catch the look that Miss USA gave Angela when she came in w/the blank sketch pad and said "I don't sketch, so I'm going to ask you a few questions instead ... what do you think of empire waists? Gloves?" I thought I was going to pass out! I mean, what designer doesn't go in w/a sketch and say "Well, this is my design. I can change this to an empire waist, if you prefer and we can add gloves if you'd like"!

I think Angela's going to be the next one booted out.

Even though Vincent wouldn't let Angela do anything, she spent her sketch time talking to Kayne and trying to get him to pick her *and* she didn't even present a sketch/design to Miss USA!!! What designer says "I don't sketch" to a client!?!?! At least Malan came up w/a design and created it!!! That's why I think Angela should be out -- she did nothing from the get go!

Remember last season, Chloe didn't do sketches either and she ended up winning. I don't know if she COULD do them and just didn't though.

I know Chloe sketched ... she had to show sketches to Nickie Hilton for the dress they were creating for her. And, in the season finale, they showed some of Chloe's sketches.

Regardless -- if you're presenting to a client, you need to show sketches!!!

In the 2nd to last episode, Tim went to go visit her and check on her progress and asked if she had sketches and she said "I don't do sketches".

I felt really bad for Malan when he told the story about his mom. I've been there done that with my mom and he looked really hurt telling the story. So sad. I'm still watching it so I don't know who got axed yet but I kind of hope it isn't Malan now.

Yeah, that was sad. I felt really bad for him, he did look really hurt. :sad2: :sad2:

I was sad to see him go :sad2: , I think Angela should have been the one to leave. I have a feeling she won't be around too long.

So, what did she show Nickie Hilton -- or did I dream that?

Her or Vincent. Neither will last long. Vincent is married and emptied their 401K to do this though. Yikes! Just makes me cringe when he comes up with wacky stuff. Makes me think his wife is home kissing her retirement bye bye. :rotfl:

I also noticed last night when the girls were discussing him, Laura said "I've seen him defend his creations on the runway before" and it made me wonder if the show isn't shown in order of who is really voted off. There has only been one show so far and he really didn't defend that hat. He loved it when creating it and totally backed down on the runway.

Daxx,

I don't remember her sketch to Nikki Hilton so I can't comment on that. I just remember her telling Tim Gunn that she didn't do sketches and he was concerned that she really didn't have anything done. She said that her work is "organic".

I'm talking about sketching for clients as opposed to sketching for the "run of the mill" challenges that they had. I can't imagine Donatella Versace or Vera Wang going in (after the client states what they like/don't like) and saying "Well, I don't sketch, so let me ask you questions". KWIM?

ETA -- she also had to do sketches for the lingerie challenge for Heidi! Remember how Heidi had them all show sketches and she chose the top 5 and had them pair up?! Santino had the "Auf Weidersein" line, etc. I don't know that Chloe was picked, but she had to present a design to Heidi.

I think Chloe did sketches. Beside Nickie Hilton, they also had to pitch lingerie ideas to Heidi. I also remember Chloe telling Tim that she doesn't sketch when he came to visit her at home, but I took it to mean she doesn't sketch when she is making garments on spec. Since she doesn't have to sell the idea before making the garment, she doesn't need to sketch.

Kay -- you posted about the lingerie sketches right as I was ammending my post to inc. the lingerie sketches they did for Heidi! Thanks for recalling that one!!!!

I totally agree that, if she's making an outfit in general, she doesn't need to sketch -- but wouldn't you agree that if you're making something for a client, you'd need to show sketches?

My thing is about going into a client and not showing them a sketch as opposed to doing everyday challenges.

My take on Angela vs. Vincent is that while Vincent may be a jerk and quite possibly a nutcase, Angela showed she lacks professionalism. Angela forgot that while she may not like the dress, the client liked Vincent's pitch enough to pick his design. I laughed when the judges, especially Vera Wang, said they liked Vincent's dress. :teeth:

I remember Chloe's sketches for both Niki Hilton and the lingerie challenge. I think that she can and does sketch when the project requires it. However for many projects, she worked without sketches and did very well.

See -- it sounds like designers sketch for the clients. They may not sketch for themselves ... but do so for a client. Angela wouldn't even sketch for her client!

Loved the winner's dress with all the jewelry around the neckline and down the back! It looked so Miss Universe pageant to me.
Vincent is kooky, Angela does seem like a coatrider. It's a toss up who's next.

Did you hear what Robert said to Kayne about adding more rhinestones?
"She's a beauty queen, not a disco ball!" :lmao:

BTW, loved the dress, too. I really liked the color.

That dress was very "pageant" and tailor made for a pageant junkie. ;) It was beautiful!
