My MIL is coming to visit on Saturday and this will be the first time I have requested that she will need assistance in a wheelchair.

Do I need to worry about getting her a boarding pass? Or will they pre-board her? I would hate to take someone's A pass if she really doesn't need one.

Thanks!

Do you mean not get her a boarding pass in advance, just get it at the airport counter? You will need a boarding pass to go through airport security. So either print it at home or stop at the airport counter or curbside check.

Sorry if I am unclear.

I understand they will print a boarding pass when she arrives at the airport. I didn't want to take a coveted A pass if they will be pre-boarding her but wait until she arrives to have them print a pass for her. Then it wouldn't matter if it's A, B, C whatever.

She'll pre-board. Assume she gets A-20. Does it really matter to A-21 if your MIL pre-boards and A-21 lines up behind A-19 or your MIL gets a BP at the airport (C-30) and that same passenger gets A-20 and lines up behind A-19? Either way your MIL boards ahead of him and he boards behind A-19.

No reason to rush at get a BP at T-24 but I wouldn't wait until you get to the airport. The sequence number on the BP determines who gets IDB if the flight is overbooked and there aren't enough volunteers.

Thank you! Just checking.

I know that people really want/need an A pass and I didn't want someone to be heartbroken.

But you've got a good point about still making it at home the day before. Just nice not to stress about the 24 hour mark.

To be exact. Assume your mother gets A60, instead of C20. The passenger who got B1 would have received A60. That passenger now boards after family mid-boarding instead of before family mid-boarding.

Still not a big deal. Get the BP any time after T-24 that's convenient for you.

Whatever you do don't get an A16 and brag about it on DIS.:)

See, I would feel so guilty about that poor person w/ a B1 pass.

Lips are now sealed.

Just get the BP at T-23.5 or T-23 (you can wait longer if you want). Any SW passenger that waits more then 30 minutes to get their BP doesn't really care if they get a low numbered BP.

It really doesn't matter if she gets a A16 or the last pass there is, she will preboard, so she will be boarding before everyone else anyway, she won't be hindering anyone any more regardless of the number she gets.

It doesn't matter what number you get. Just go ahead and print it at home whenever you want to. Don't worry about it. When you get to the gate, tell them at the counter that you need to pre-board. Sometimes they give you a blue card and sometimes they don't. Have have told us before that if they see you in a wheelchair, you will be pre-boarded.

So it really just about bragging rights? That B1 will still be seated after your MIL even if your MIL got a B2 boarding pass.

Uh, no. I was actually hoping to get a B so I had waited to get her pass. I wasn't worried about when she got seated. She needs to be in a wheelchair so I knew she would be seated first wherever they put her. It was pointed out that the only one really affected would be the B1 recipient.

Nothing to do with 'bragging rights' (that's reserved for DISers who'll actually be needing their assigned boarding designation numbers).
- Families with young children board between the A passengers and the B passengers.
- By getting an "A" designation, the OP's MIL - well, Southwest's boarding procedure, NOT that poor woman! - pushed ONE passenger back from an "A" boarding pass to a "B" boarding pass.
- Instead of boarding before the families, that one passenger (who would have gotten the hoped-for "A" boarding pass) now has to wait until after the families.
- The OP feels badly about this, but she shouldn't - she did her absolute best to make boarding as pleasurable as possible for all the passengers who aren't her MIL.

:thumbsup2 Not a problem. People DO come here to post/brag about their low boarding pass numbers!!!

I didn't mean your bragging rights, just those of the ones that ended up with the B1 pass.

It's all good!

I'm not stating things as well as usual. Maybe a bit apprehensive about MIL coming to visit. And I'm not ready! Still cleaning bathrooms. Yikes! But rather be on 'puter than cleaning.

Have a great weekend all!
