Princess 1/2 2013...anyone else???

So, here's to an AWESOME year of training and the search for the perfect tiara, because you better believe we'll be rocking them as we run! princess:

I just got my tiara. Spent hours on line and found "the one". Actually, DH picked out the style and it's perfect. I also had NO idea that tiara could be so complicated with style, comb, holes for pins etc. But I just might need to get a backup one too.

Over the weekend....Kohls (a department store in our area) had a great sale on running/workout clothes. Picked up a bunch and saved a ton of $$$$$$$. I found cute running skirt attached to leggings for next to nothing. It will be perfect for Tinker Bell and Princess next year.

Subscribing to the thread.

I think I am in for the PHM 2013, also turning 40 next year, just started running 6 months ago and already completed my first 5K and lost 33lbs in the process. If I start training now running through the castle should be a breeze. Help me stay motivated ladies......running+Disney=FUN!!!

Hi ladies, or should I say fellow princesses!

I am very excited to find this thread and learn about this race! I am not a runner but am into fitness and am VERY goal oriented!

Like a lot of you I am turning 40 next year (april) so I'm making a goal to train and do the princess 1/2 marathon! O-M-G :goodvibes

I am a widow and have 3 young daughters so I"m not sure how I'm going to plan this. My sister is a runner so I would love to go with her but then I have to find someone to watch my girls for at least 3 days
My other option is to ask a friend of mine, who is a runner but not into disney at all to come run with me and then my sister could watch my girls here at home.

Either way I'm going to start training now and see how it goes and in a month try to work out the details because I believe registration is in May 2012

My sister and I are already taking my girls to Disney in Nov 2013 so this would be 2x in one year haha but the race would just be the 3 days

Anyway I am very nervous about training and running, extra info for anyone who is still reading I have a heart condition which raises my HR very high with stress and exercise so I'm really hoping if I train slow and steady that I can keep my HR at a moderate level. This is why I need to start training slow and see how it goes.

But I really really want to do this!!! Heres to all the princess runners out there!!!

Thanks for reading! :) :yay:

Hi and contrats on your decision to train for the Princess 1/2. I love Disney races and always look forward to my next one.

You may want to check out the Jeff Galloway training programs; walk/run. I followed one for the Tinker Bell 1/2 and l loved the schedule and it helped keep me on track. I'm planning to do another one for the DL 1/2. You can check out the information at Run Disney and even on his website.

Hope this helps. It's going to be a fun year training and looking ahead to the race.

Vicki

I will be running in my 5th Princess Half Marathon next year! So excited!

There are many RunDisney veterans out there. I won't run a distance even if it isn't Disney! This will be my 11th half marathon (with the Disneyland being my 10th), as well as 11th RunDisney event (one half was a Rock n Roll and I did the 2009 Disney Marathon).

Congrats to first time runners! You will LOVE it (once its over)!

I love all the enthusiam on this thread!! :thumbsup2

I soooo want to commit to the Princess 2013 but I am intimidated by 13.1 miles!! So since we'll be at WDW in late September anyway, I think I will try the ToT 10 mile race and if all goes well I'll sign up for the Princess...I'll just have to keep an eye on when the Princess sells out.

This year it was like February before it sold out! Enjoy the TOT 10 miler, then sign on up for the Princess! I didn't think I could do it, but I did and it was awesome! It was the first running race that I ever did.

Also, if you run the TOT 10 miler in September, you have five months to go just three more miles! Just a 5K!

So excited to find this board/thread! Just completed my first 1/2 in feb also the princess. I have signed up for the ToT 10 miler as i am now completely addicted to running at Disney. Good luck to all!

Anyone know if Disney provides transportation for spectators? My husband will be coming with me but not running.

I walked for 2 miles yesterday! That is my starting point! Usually when I say I'm going to become a runner, I start to fast and then just abandon it after a month or so. This time I am going to try to remember to go slow and work up to running.:goodvibes

Yes they do.
We've never done a race at WDW so I have no idea (besides what I have read) how it's done. At DL it's so much easier...we walk to the race starts. Definately, DH and son will have to sign up for the ChEAR Squad to make it easier on race day morning.

Keep up the good work Pixie!!:cool1:

So glad I found the thread for the 2013 Princess! I just did it this year for the first time and it was my first half. It was such a blast!! I can't wait to do it again next year.

I signed my DH up for the gold ChEAR squad package, the one that gives you the wrist band to get into the ChEAR zones. He said it wasn't worth the extra money. I left about 3:15 to take the bus over to the start and he drove to the MK parking lot and took the monorail over to MK. He was somewhere on Main St, but I didn't see him and he didn't see me. I think he might have left before I got there. Then he took the monorail back to Epcot to see me at the finish. He says he saw me, but I didn't see him. I signed my mom and kids up for the free ChEar squad and they took the bus to Epcot later in the morning, maybe around 8 and I saw them along the route. Basically you can get into MK before opening to see the race. If you go to the start at Epcot you can take the monorail over if you don't have a car. Taking the bus to the start is definately the way to go. I got there pretty quick from SSR, but I have heard a lot of stories of runners getting stuck in traffic for an hour on the bus. Car traffic was pretty bad. Hope that helps.

Look into a C25K (Couch to 5K) program when you are ready to actually run. They combine running and walking and start out really slowly. You can even repeat weeks if you'd like. If you have a smartphone, you can download an App that will beep to tell you to run and then beep when you should walk!

When you are ready to go further, Jeff Galloway has excellent training programs and still embraces the run/walk method.

When I started, I could barely run a minute, and I ran over 2/3 of the Princess Half this year. I walked the other part.

Congrats on your two miles! Just remember, as they say in Ruldoph........

Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you'll be walking cross the floor
Put one foot in front of the other
And soon you'll be Running out the Door!

Okay, so I added the running part. :)

I so want to do this...is a year enough time to really get prepared for it? I am able to walk/run a little bit now as I had started the C25K a while back but stopped. I have some weight to loose too. Just curious if yall think it is doable in a year...if I get my rear in gear???

Thanks!

YES !!!!!!:thumbsup2 If you like to walk/run also check out Jeff Galloway walk/run program. He has various training programs to follow for the Run Disney Races.

TOTALLY doable! I only started running last May and ran the Princess half this year. I started with C25K and just worked up from there adding miles. I kinda followed Jeff Galloway's program but instead of running intervals, I just ran the whole time. Ended up with a few injuries so maybe the run/walk intervals would have been better. You can definately do this!

I have the C25K app on my iPhone and have one of Jeff Galloway's plans saved to my favorites on my laptop! I have to download some music to my iPod now!
