Princess 1/2 2013...anyone else???

TOTALLY doable! I only started running last May and ran the Princess half this year. I started with C25K and just worked up from there adding miles. I kinda followed Jeff Galloway's program but instead of running intervals, I just ran the whole time. Ended up with a few injuries so maybe the run/walk intervals would have been better. You can definately do this!

Thank you so much. I'm on it!!! Do you have to pay for the Jeff Galloway program? I've Nev actually seen his program.

The run Disney site will have training plans for each race. Those are free. You can download them as a pdf file. If you go to jeffgalloway.com you can get they training plans for free. There are ones that you can pay for that have online mentoring and coaching. Some cities have Galloway training groups, not sure if there is a few to join.

I don't think the plans for the princess half are up yet, but you could use the one for the Wine and Dine half and just ignore the dates.

Hi everyone! It's been a while, but I"m back! I haven't done a lick of training, but I joined the local 24 hour gym this weekend, and can't wait to go tomorrow. I refuse to get up any earlier than 5am so I'll be going at night after the kids go to bed.

I hope everyone's training is going well.

Have a great week!

Happy Monday, all!

I've been absent from the boards awhile, but I had (and still do) a bunch on my plate in March! We did a March of Dimes bake sale last week, and then last Saturday, I did the March for Babies in my town.

:scared1:It was 8.6 MILES:scared1:

I set a goal for myself to finish under 3 hours. This would be a 20 minute mile. I figured that it would be a good "Starting Point" to work up from. Well, I didn't realize how many Spirit Stations there were (water, snacks, swag, etc), and these cut into my time (mostly at the beginning, before the crowds thinned out) so I finished with a time of 3 hours and 4 minutes! Like Fastpasses, I'm giving myself a 5-minute grace period, so I met my goal!!!

Now I know where to go from here. I'm so proud of myself, but man, I hurt so bad on Sunday! There are a lot of hills on the course, so my leg/butt muscles are the most painful.

Hope everyone has a great week! Eleven more months til Princess :cutie:

Quick (hopefully not dumb) question....I know the activities run all weekend, but what day is the actual 1/2 marathon. I'm assuming Sunday but I'm not sure. My family is trying to plan a cruise and I'm trying to plan around being there for the Princess 1/2.

Thanks!!

Jodi

Sunday, yes! I was done by 9:00am and could have left the area pretty quickly afterward.

If your trip allows for you to not leave on Sunday, going to a park and wearing your medal is an awesome experience that shouldn't be missed if it can be helped. Although I bet that you'd still have fun wearing it on a cruise!

Hi all. I just started running. I started with c25k about a week and a half ago, but to my shock I am pretty much past weeks 1 and 2. I'm really slow but I didn't expect my time to be anything but slow just starting out. The Princess 1/2 is my goal. I am starting with a 5k in May. I've never done anything like this but I've always wanted to and now is the time.

wow, so many new people on the thread and it is great to hear from all the people that ran the race this year. Congrats to all of you on a great job.

Happy Mom- How are you feeling? How is your recovery going? I hope you made it to the gym and were able to get some work in.

AmyKay- Wow over 8 miles, that is great. You don't have much more to go and plenty of months to get there.

Well I have been battling shin splints, so my mileage and running has backed off a little. DH used to run track in high school so he has been working with me on changing my form a little. It is taking some getting used to, but my leg has not been bothering me so I must be doing something right. Hoping to get a run in tonight of about 4-5 miles.

So I'm taking the plunge and going to do the Princess 1/2 marathon for my first big race! :cool1:

OMG...What have I gotten myself into? I'm really excited but also really nervous about doing this. Up until about 3 months ago, the thought of doing anything over 2 miles was unknown to me, not to mention I have a good bit of weight to lose... But with the help of The Biggest Loser challenge here on the DIS, I've lost 20lbs so far and am doing much better with my speed and endurance.

My original plan was just to do the Princess 5k since 3 miles didn't seem so daunting. But since I can almost do 3 miles now at a 16-17 minute pace and since I still have about a year to train, it's seeming more do-able with each day. I'd really like to get to a 14 minute mile by the race though.

So far, it's just me and my DM going (She's not running with me, just coming to cheer me on) but I'm hoping my Dad and possibly Grandpa will be coming to cheer me as well. I'm actually running in honor of my grandma who was killed last year in a car accident and was one of my inspirations for starting a healthier life style. Plus my grandpa has been one of my biggest supporters so to run this race for them will mean the world to me.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully getting to meet you at the race! Now just to pick out my costume... ;)

Two quick questions, I saw that Disney has host hotels for the runners. Does that change every year or what hotels do they usually use? Also, what's the best bit of advice that you can give runners on race day?

Good for you! I started running a year before the Princess 1/2 this year, and it was the first race I ever did (Why start out small, right?) :) You can make the distance and speed in the time you have, no problem. Just keep your eye on the prize!

It really is exciting and sooooooooooo worth it! I hope that your family will all get to come to see you, especially your Grandpa. Also, do you have a friend to possibly convince to run with you? I ran with two friends and it was great. We kept each other motivated in the months before the race, and traveled together, which was awesome. We didn't run the actual race together though, because one is a hardcore runner, the other was slower than her, but faster than me, so we just split up as we crossed the starting line and ran our own races. It worked out very well.

You go girl!

Is it possible to walk the whole race? I'm hoping to be able to run, but just in case :rotfl:

Jodi90, I've seen people say they've walked the entire race, but unless you can walk like 4mph, it may be difficult for you. (I don't know if I can walk that fast, so I'll be adding some jogging/shuffling into the mix myself).

Sure! As long as you can keep the 16 minute mile pace. If you are walking right at that pace, you won't be able to stop for pretty much anything, so I'd shoot for a 14 minute pace at least. I am with AmyKay, that it is hard for me to walk that pace without some running, but I know people who do it.

Hi y'all! Looks like this thread has been pretty slow. I hope everyone is doing well in their training endeavors. I've starting my training. I have a LONG way to go, but I'm praying I'll get there.

Happy Friday everyone. Training has been going well.... working on my endurance and speed, gotta love those hills....:goodvibes.. Have my calendar all marked for the sign up days and the start of the Galloway training schedule. I must say I love having a "goal" and having the goal tied to my "happy place" in the World...:dance3:

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend~

I've got my calendar marked also! This afternoon when I was tired of walking, I just kept thinking about the PHM, and kept going.

Just think of the sparkly medal that will be place around your neck when you finish! It's such a great feeling!

I've got my calendar dates too !! Even every little run is one step closer to the PHM.

I am just looking forward to running with a tiara on my head.

Ladies, I just got through reading all the way through the posts...what an inpirational and encouraging group we have here. I am IN for the 2013 Princess. I started last night withthe Couch to 5k again. I struggled a bit, but I was able to finish and walk two extra miles. I have quite a bit of weight to loose, but I can't think of a better way to do it than to prepare for what looks to be THE funnest race ever. It will be my first. I cannot wait!!! The thought of running through the castle brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I will be running the race by myself, but my aunt will be there to cheer me on. :wizard: I hope everyone is doing good on their traing and having a wonderful Easter weekend.
