Princess 1/2 2013...anyone else???

I asked on the 2012 thread and someone was nice enough to give me the dates...

February 22 - 24 are the dates for the 2013 Princess Half Marathon weekend!!!!

Mark your calendars, princesses!!!

I go to the doctor tomorrow so I'll see if she gives me the ok to start exercising again.

I'm planning for this to be my first half. Longest I've done is the Cooper River Bridge Run 10k. 6mi to 13.1 is a huge jump. Plus I ws sidelined by fractured ankle and haven't been able to get motivated to run again. How many other first-timers out there? To the marathon vets, can you realistically do zero to half? So nervous and need some motivation.

Any clue when registration opens for 2013? I think 2012 opened in June 2011 but not positive

thanks, Happy Mom2! It just got a bit more real, knowing the end date to this madness!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Fluffy Princess, I read on another board (or even possibly this one!) that it should be open around July? That's what I'm basing it on, so I know how much to save per week to budget for this trip.

Well, ladies... my doc released me today. I'm at 6 weeks post op, and she gave me the ok to start exercising. I'm still in some pain so I'll have to take it slow, but I'm so ready to get this show on the road!! :woohoo: I'm going to start with Jeff Galloway's conditioning schedule. Today is a 10 minute walk so I'm going to head to the park in a little bit to get that done. Oh!!! and the best news is I've lost 16 pounds since my surgery! :woohoo:

This will be my first half, and I'm going from 0 to the half also! The PHM is my inspiration to get in shape and start exercising. For motivation, read the 2012 PHM thread. Those ladies are awesome!

Should be around June or July. :thumbsup2

I know... for me too!

I'm still here, just lurking around b/c my plantar fasciitis is keeping me from running (or exercising at all for that matter) right now. It HAS to get better at some point, right?

Glad that we have the dates! That's when I was hoping it would be!:thumbsup2

Oh no! I hope you heal soon.

I was hoping that would be the dates also... I really didn't want it to fall on President's day weekend or Mardi Gras. Speaking of, tomorrow is Mardi Gras so ....

Happy Mardi Gras, everyone!!!

Well, I got out and completed day 1 of the Jeff Galloway's conditioning program. A 10 minute walk. It took me 11 minutes to make one lap around a trail at a local park, but I knew I'd be slow. Tomorrow is a 15 minute walk. :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about your plantar faciitis, it is not fun at all. I was suffering BIG time with it and found a PT group that does ASTYM therapy. I can not say enough about how great this is. I went from being in so much pain that I didn't think I could complete 1 mile to completing the Tinker Bell Half. I had 8 treatments, 2 per week. Don't know if it is available in your area, but wanted to let you know about it. It really worked for me....

Great job, Happy Mom2! I finished week 3 last week and realized that I need MUCH better sneakers, so I'm kind of on hiatus until I can get better sneakers. My knees hurt for a day or so after I run as well as my hips, and squatting (like to tie my daughter's shoes) is nearly impossible.

I'm still WALKING on my training days, though, so I haven't given up, just cut back. I'm so proud of myself for that! (Old fat me would reclaim my love affair with the couch).

Helloprincess:s, just wanted to jump on here to say that I will be doing the 2012 Princess- my first 1/2 in just 4 days and like most of you, I have been training for about a year for this. I suffered an injury about 3 weeks ago and am not 100% but I'll still be competing- I will not be able to run like I had trained before the injury so I'll be training for the 2013 once I have fully recovered. Looking forward to getting to know you all and I'm sure there will be more 2012 competitors jumping on board after Sunday to say they are in again for 2013!

I would love to hear about the experience from this year's runners! Good luck and have fun!

Well, I haven't been able to do anything since Day 1. As little as I did, I think I pushed myself too much. I listened to my doctor instead of my body, and was really hurting yesterday. I also returned back to work yesterday so that is taking everything out of me. I'll get there. It's just going to take me longer than I wanted!!

Keep your eyes out. They will be posting reports soon!! :goodvibes

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm hoping to *walk* the 2013 Princess Half then go to DL in September for the CTC medal. I started training a little over a month ago, trying to get my speed down to 15 minutes per mile. Monday, I managed 17:30 per mile for 4 miles so I still have a looonnnggg way to go. Back in October, when I first walked 4 miles in row [I had signed up for a Turkey Trot in November], I was sore for days afterwards. Now, it doesn't faze me...that IS encouraging.

So, fellow Princesses, we're just beginning our own year-long race to get ready for next year. Can't wait to read everyone's progress.

Hugs all around and I'm loving the blogs, too.

Happy Mom2- I am glad to hear you got clearance from the doctor. I am not sure what type of surgery you are recovering from, but a few years ago I tore part of my quad. I was allowed no exercise for eight weeks and then had to start back under the guidance of my physical therapist. The first week I was allowed 5 minutes at a 3.5 pace. After that I was allowed to go up in either speed or minutes only by 10% each week. It sucked to go that slow, but I didn't reinjure myself which was the good part. Hope you feel better soon.
Tiggerfan It sounds like you are on the right track. It sounds like we have the same plan, I hope to do 2013 Princess and then the 1/2 at Disney later that year.
FirecrackerI am not as familiar with the C25K but it sounds like you are progressing and not giving up. Keep up the great work.
Fluffy Princess- I think you can do zero to a half in a year. Maybe having a goal race will be the motivation you are looking for.
TwoboysnmygirlSo sorry to hear you are still having trouble with PF. What exactly is that? Can you do non weight bearing exercise like bike riding?
AmyKaySorry to hear about your knees and hips. I hope the new sneakers do the trick
CruizinMammaThat sucks about the injury, but yeah for you for completing your first 1/2, what an accomplishment.
DebbieandrooNice to meet you, keep up the great work

Well I have just been going along with my training. Last weekend DH and I ran 8 miles and it felt good. This week I have done a quick 4 and 3 so far in addition to some strength training. On tap for the weekend is a quick 3 and a long 9. Just continuing to plug away and looking forward to a year from now.

Thanks for the well wishes. I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago, and I had a really bad fall 3 weeks ago that set my recovery back a good bit. I just went back to work this week, and it's kicking my butt. I'm sure I'll get there. It's just going to be a long slow journey, but it's one I'm looking forward to.

Enjoy the journey.

Hi everyone...I also hope to do the Princess 1/2 in 2013. I did the Tinker Bell 1/2 last month and it was really the best disney race I've ever done !!! I even had a blast running in wings.

My dream is to run the Princess in 2013 after the Tink to FINALLY get my C2C medal.

I do the DL 1/2 each year with DH but the princess seems like it would be such a special experience.

I am very new to running, but I have completed several 5k races and I'm training for a 15k in July. There's no better motivation than a run through the castle!!! I took my son, daughter, and husband out for a short run/walk today despite the cold (20 degrees) to kind of kick off the training period. Can't wait for this experience!!

I'm in my training now. I have my first 5K in April and I'm so looking forward to it. I now can reach 3 miles in 40.36 mins.

I keep thinking that so many of the princesses who ran today were where we are a year ago. I'm happy for them, and hope to be joining them next year.

It's great to get your whole family involved! I saw some pictures of the Royal Family 5K, and the pictures of the families running together brought tears to my eyes. Is your family going with you in 2013 or are you going solo?

I'm in my training now. I have my first 5K in April and I'm so looking forward to it. I now can reach 3 miles in 40.36 mins.

Keep up the good work!
