President’s Weekend or the Week before?

We are traditionally a ‘summer vacation’ family but are planning a big reunion in mid-February 2005. Historically, will the hotel rates on-site and airfares to Florida be much higher during a holiday weekend in the middle of winter, as opposed to the prior weekend? Have there been President’s weekend special rates?

IMHO, your best chance for good rates is the weekend prior to President's week. Not only do central Florida reservations fill up for President's week, but that is the time for Speed Week in Daytona and there is an incredible influx of people at that time, with motels filling up all the way over past the Orlando area.

Many NE schools are out for President's Week. From what I understand it gets pretty crowded that week(less then Christmas and Easter). Also the daytona 500 is that weekend and many will stop at WDW before or after. The WDW resorts change from Value to peak season rates the wednesday before President's Day.

We are planning on going the Wednesday before Pres. day to get the value rates for the whole stay at AKL. However being from Rochester NY there isn't much hope for low airfare during a school break.

If you have a choice I would avoid Pres. Weekend/week. The week before would give lower WDW resort prices. Of course the weather might be iffy anytime in Feb but I would thing the later the better.

We have stayed the week BEFORE Pres. weekend. It was quiet and the weather was nice. Once the pres weekend got closer, the crowds more than doubled.

Went the week before in Feb 03. Noticed in planning that rates were going up, starting President's week. Also, crowd levels really did begin to pick up as the holiday w/e approached. We were glad we did not book for that next week instead.
