Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

We are booked for our first stay at POR -- Royal Guest Room in September. Can anyone recommend a building to request? We would like to be close to transportation (1st), Pool / Main Building (2nd). We have never stayed at a mod resort before (only deluxe or value -- CR or POP), so is there anything else we should know about a mod?

We just booked a Garden view at POR from 5/26-6/2! I booked online and did not see a form where I can write in a room request. I assume I can just call and they can add it to the reservation? I will make sure to do the fax prior to arrival as well.

My question for the group is what are my chances of getting AB with a Garden View? I have the request on the reservation noted. I plan on following the directions noted on the first post on this thread (online check in, fax in the request).

Fairly good, there are more regular rooms in AB than there are in the mansion buildings, so the odds are in your favour before you even send in your fax.

Both Oak Manor and Parterre Place have rooms that meet your wishes, although Oak probably has more of them. However rather than requesting a specific building, why not let them know the features you are looking for and let them see what rooms they've got available which might work out best for you?

Correct, the online booking and online checkin systems do not have any free-form text areas for entering requests, you need to call Central Reservations phone line and get them to add your requests to your booking.

Reading everyone's posts makes me so happy we choose POR for our stay in March (13-24)!!! Not my first trip to WDW, but will be for my DH, DS (14), DD (11) and DD (8 ). My mom is going with us, so this will be her 2nd time staying at POR with multiple trips to WDW. We have booked Garden View rooms, but I plan to fax a request hoping to get connecting rooms since my two girls will be staying in the same room with grandma. Otherwise it sounds like just about any location will be awesome!!! Can't wait to be on vacation (no cooking, no cleaning, no working! Bliss!!!!) Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

We changed our date to 9/24-10/5 POR RR-garden view, requested Oak mannor ,first floor close to the foot bridge. Oh yea connecting rooms. Our two granddaughters are to stay in our room. And my daughter and her hubby next door. This is our first time at WDW but my daughter and I are Disneyland vets........

Hi! I have a question...we are arriving March 4 for two nights, then departing for the 3 night Dream cruise. After the cruise we are returning for 3 more nights at POR. If there are things that we don't to lug with us, are we able to leave any bags with Bell Services at POR and then pick then back up when we check in again on the 9th? Thanks for any help.:goodvibes

Yes, shouldn't be a problem. Make sure they know what you are doing and have it stored against your name ready for the new checkin.

Looking for transportation advice. We will be at POR first week in March. DW and DD will be going to DTD from POR for a 9:10 a.m. BBB apt. Our boys and I want to make rope drop at AK or HS so we will be gone well before 8:00 a.m. We will will all meet up at MK at about 11:30 or 12:00. Will the boat to DTD be running early enough or should DW and DD take the bus? We have a car but I am unsure what parking at DTD will be like. We will all use buses to get to MK to meet up.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Parking at DD that early in the day shouldn't be a problem...we have shown up there after lunch and gotten a parking spot....there is a lot of parking.
The boat starts running at 10am I believe so that wouldn't work.

Thanks. They will be happy to sleep a little later and just drive in over when they are ready.

Over the last few years, Disney has offered free dining from mid/late August for a month or two. ... Be aware that the offers are sometimes limited to certain room categories...

Andre

This affected me in that I decided not to make a Christmas 2013 trip: when the late autumn free dining was announced it included check ins up to around Dec 21 or 22 (free dining was available for the entire stay of up to 14 days as long as check in was by the required date). From the moment the discount was made available and for a long time after I found availability only for rooms at POR that accomodate 4 people. My family of 5 was out of luck: rooms were available for us at POR at the rack rate, but there was no availability for parties of 5 with free dining, only availability in rooms such as Royal rooms that accomodate a max of 4. We would have made the trip if the Alligator Bayou rooms that accomodate 5 had been part of the deal.

Sorry I have been away everyone. Been tending to a few things. But I do still pop on here to see what I can do if it hasn't been already answered.

Things have changed a bit at Downtown Disney--its a bit congested now --a parking garage is being built and is taking up a lot of the current parking spaces: driving there can be a headache right now.

Yeah, but getting people there for a 9:10am appointment won't be a problem, and traffic will be light too. I'd definitely drive.
