Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I see that there are now movies being shown each night near Oak Manor. Are they shown in the front courtyard or the back courtyard near the river? Also who can tell me what Campfire on the Bayou is and where it is held?

I would be interested in knowing this also. While I would enjoy the experience of a movie outside, I don't think that I would much appreciate it outside my room every night while I am trying to settle my girls to sleep. The increased crowds and noise might pose a problem. While I would like to stay at Oak Manor, this could be a deal breaker if it is held in the courtyard near the river since I have paid for a river view room.

For all of you hurricane watchers, I am a little stressed:scared: right now. It looks like tropical storm Gert is going to be uncomfortably close:eek: to my airport on Wednesday morning when my flight is supposed to take off for Florida. My fingers, toes, arms, and eyes are all crossed that it won't be an issue.

Wow I love it!!! Cant wait til we are down to single digits!!!

Bumble...just a question. SO & I are going in Dec and staying at POR, just curious if this is a good area for just a couple (his first trip) or more of a family area.

Thanks so much and glad you had a great trip:)

We had our DD5 and DS7 with us, but we saw a lot of couples there. We were next to a quiet pool that rarely had kids around which would be great for couples. We spent our pool time at Ol' Man Island since that's where the familes seemed to be. However, the overall feel of Riverside is very quiet and relaxing -- I'm sure you'll love it!

Last week the movies were being shown near the river. We wanted to go but the ground was wet from the rain. Both nights we noticed the movie, it didn't look like it was very crowded there.

I apologize as I have not read this whole thread and have not been keeping up on my POR knowledge!

Which buildings are already refurbed? Which are in progress?

We go on 9/29 and we are wondering what to expect?

We're staying at POR in April in a Royal room garden view. I requester Oak Manor. Does anyone know which rooms are garden view rooms?
I believe these would be any rooms NOT facing the parking lot. Don't quote me on this, but I do believe I have read from others that if you do not want a parking lot view, don't book standard view and you'll be fine.

When completed will oak and parterre have royal rooms ONLY or will they have standard rooms in these buildings also?
Yes, Oak and Parterre will have only Royal rooms. All rooms in both buildings are being converted to Royal.

I keep flip flopping between POR and POFQ. I watched the walkthru of both on portorleans.org. I love the theming of POFQ, how everything is set up like a quaint little town and the fact that it's small and has one bus stop is a plus. The pool does nothing for me though. For POR, I love all the amenities offered (boat & bike rentals, TS restaurant, nicer pool) but I don't love the size and that there are so many stops. What to do!!! Help!

That was my problem! I did chose POR because we will be traveling with 3 DD's November 2012 and picked the Royal Rooms!

I would just think that would be flooded getting on there with all the people standing around to get on buses. Where at least the Riverside there is more than one depot. All the people not knowing much about the depots would go to ones near there buildings go, making it not as hard to get on at south depot (Main Depot).

We have booked a room through a TA for the end of the month. I did not request anything other than a corner room if possible. Does that mean we will have a room facing a parking lot?

If it's the amenities you like at POR, I would say stay at POFQ since you like the theming and bus stop idea better. Since they are sister resorts, you are welcome to go over to POR and use their amenities, including pools, at any time. Since you'll be using the amenities less frequently than the buses and the room, that's what I would do! Although for me, I prefer POR's rooms and their bus situation has never been a problem for me.

Checking in here in just 5 days!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

Quick question. Is there body wash in the rooms or do I need to bring my own?

Not necessarily. Standard view room can really be anything. We have had standard view rooms which have had a lovely view of the courtyard. But standard view means you COULD have a view of the parking lot. Garden view, water view and river view won't.

Quick question. Is there body wash in the rooms or do I need to bring my own?

I don't know about body wash, someone else can confirm probably, but they definitely have bar soap unless its changed.

Please bring back a resort report for us! I'm sure that if you call the resort they will be able to tell you.

That is not the number of the resort; it is the number of a Central Call Center. Someone answers the phone as if they are at the resort, but they are actually not even on-site or located remotely on-site.

Some questions such as these, the CM won't even know the answer. I mentioned the refurb the last time I talked to the CM and she didn't even know it was going on; she was answering the phone out-of-state.

There is information on andre's website; portorleans.org.

However, other than a couple of people posting back to him; we haven't been able to get real confirmation of anything.

I found the number on Andre's site, so thanks for letting us know it's not correct.
