AB buildings 14, 15 and 18 are preferred and it costs more to stay in those rooms so you can't request them unless you've booked preferred. If you did book preferred, you will be guaranteed to be in AB as the mansions don't have any preferred rooms. I think you said you booked river view though. If you can, try to check-in early to request AB. If they don't have an over abundance of families of 5 that booked river view, I'd think you'd be able to get it. One of the mansion buildings will be out of commission for refurbishment so there will be less rooms available over there anyhow. And I'd imagine a lot of people will be requesting Acadian House which should be done by now.

I suppose you could book building 38. Anyone can answer is that one still preferred? Its in AB and should have river view rooms!

My wait is almost over!:woohoo: I'll be checking in on Friday at around 11 a.m. with a bit of luck and organization....hopefully my room will be ready for me because I am sure ready for it!:yay: We're really looking forward to our first stay at POR.....it looks so beautiful.

KCMike, I have really enjoyed all of your pictures and they have really helped to build the excitement for our upcoming stay at POR. Thank you so much!:thumbsup2

So then that is a yes building 38 is a building in Alligator bayou that has some river view rooms.

I took my first trip to Disneyland in April and went to the ElecTRONica party. Have you ever been? It was pretty cool!

No I have never been to that!!!! Can or did you take pics? I have wanted to see that since they opened it. I wonder if they will open one at wdw? Did you pick up any interesting things there?

For those of you that have stayed at POR, how quiet are the quiet pools? I have stayed at CBR and there was never more than a handful of people there at any time. Of course, there's no quiet pool at POFQ, but it was cold enough the first week of December 2010 that I had the whole pool (and every lounge chair) to myself for the better part of an afternoon:rotfl: A couple of people on these boards have mentioned that the quiet pools at CSR were quite busy. This time we will be doing less parks and more relaxing...and seeing as we are in our 50's/60's we will probably hang out by a pool, let the breeze blow in our silver hair, adjust our bifocals a few times and read....

I liked the CBR and theming, and also liked POFQ due to its size...but always looking for something new and different. I would suspect that probably the mansions or preferred areas would be best for us as they seem fairly close to the dining/gift shop area and on the days the old joints decide to crackle and snap, it would be convenient....any photos/suggestions/recommendations?

Also, one last question - if a ground floor room is requested due to medical reasons (darned old joints), is there medical forms have to be signed by a doctor and provided or do they just have us sign a form of some type on check-in??
Thanks:thumbsup2 (P.S. We are looking possible at a trip first part of Nov 2011 - last minute type thing if we can both get our vacations at the same time...so any weather advice would be great too....we almost died of heat in Sep 09 and ended up buying touques and mittens in Dec 10....we figure November might make it "just right".)

Thanks! Single digits for you? Awesome! Have a great vacation!

This is just BEAUTIFUL!! Makes me even more excitied...only 23 days to go now!!

Kcmike, I LOVE the photo taken from the boat dock. Do you know which building it was?

FYI: IDK if this has already been posted but I just saw that the POR Magnolia Bend Leisure pool will be closed from 09/05/11 to 10/07/11.

I saw that also and am concerned....I have wanted to stay at the resort for literally years and want the best experience possible.

This is our 1st time at POR so can't speak strictly for that... however, we have requested a ground floor our last couple of trips... DM uses an electric w/c, but has issues getting stuck in elevators, so we opted to do ground floor. We have never been questioned about that medical request, nor had to fill out any papers...hope this helps.

The last time I was there was in the last week of April 2008. We used a quiet pool one afternoon because I was doing laundry and the kids wanted to swim. There was only 1 other family there, a dad and 2 of his kids. It was never noisy when we walked past that same pool at other times.

Like you said at CBR, there were only a handful of people there in my experience. There were still kids there, but with their parents and there were free chairs. We usually utilize the quiet pool around 1 or 2pm each day and that's what our experience has been.

As far as a medical form, I don't know about that, you could call to find out, but the mansions have elevators if that helps at all. If that suffices, I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with getting placed in the mansion or at least a first floor room in AB.

Yeah last year I advised them I had a medical restriction and they put me in building 14 no problem, no forms needed.

We were there in mid July 2010. We spent a lot of time at the quiet pool (with our kids). We actually prefer the quiet pools than the acitivity/ main pools due to the fact that our kids don't liked to be splashed and we like a slower paced afternoon. We never had a problem with too many people at the quiet pool. Found chairs to sit in, had plenty of room in the pool, even had towels! In fact, the pool was very quiet. Usually zero rowdiness!!

Yeah I agree. When I stayed in both the AB and parterre mansion, there were quiet pools close by so after walking to the main pool. We said nope and went back to our pool close by. It was nice to relax in a pool where only one mom and her child were there. The entire time I think I saw six or seven people at that pool when we were there.
