Hiya - We went to Great America yesterday......WOW, we went with a group of 3 other families...wow...that's all I'm gonna say....I guess the 3 of us are pretty disney conditioned......UGH. It was hot hot hot....& crowded crowded crowded....we did manage to ride all the big coasters and most of the smaller rides that they wanted to...All the girls kept saying..is mom, the people that work here sure don't know anything about Disney magic.....let's just say the "class" of workers is much different...& I use that term VERY loosely.

Anyway...got home around midnight...today I'm cleaning...finishing laundry....Grace has a friend over...Casey went boating with one of her friends....

ok am keeping those days off!!! I am tagging along :woohoo:

ok, I think that's a plan...anyone else for Hershey Park July 2008????

YOMD has been extended until the end of 2008. What do you guys think about that?

I am ready for a change. I am not saying they have to go all out every year, but keeping YOMD feels like they just don't want to go through the trouble of changing it.

I agree with you...how can you give away a million dreams...and then keep going....Makes it much less special

It has been a nutty day and I am so ready to have it over. not a big drinker) :rolleyes1

. :

uh-oh...I hope by now you're having a GREAT time....

,.Btw we had no damage to our house other than a small chip in a small window.
]

I KNOW! That was unbelievable! My in-laws called us to tell us. Glad you're ok.

I
Im a " I wont live south of 55" snob.... I know it means nothing to any of you, but I wont live south of 55. :3dglasses

hmm, i TOTALLY understand...why do you think we moved NORTH instead of SOUTH from Chicago!

QOTH ( question of the hour)
When you guys do go to wdw, what do you use to get to the resorts

We always have used ME...never had an issue...but now you guys make me nervous???? We've used it 4 times now...without any problems.....We have ADR's 3 hours after our flight lands....at CM's!!!!!!!! I NEED A GLOWING MARTINI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mich - how are you holding up in the heat????

Colleen - AWESOME haircut

gotcha....:thumbsup2 BTW some of my tribe are en route for Hershey as we speak... but the weather here in Delco is so gloomy so I chose not to go :guilty:

G'morning peeps.. just woke up.... I might just start organize my suitcasessss since I dont feel like leaving the house today...:rolleyes1

Oh, you should've gone! Its clear and sunny!

I just got back from the drs. I wish I could understand what he was telling me. He said they couldn't do the genetic testing (which I knew) but they could tell the pregnancy loss was hormonal and when I asked what that meant he started talking about folic acid deficiency. So I feel awful, because I decifer that because I didn't take enough folic acid my baby wasn't viable. I'm going to email him with some followup questions once I can figure out how to word them.

 Formulate your thoughts and questions and then ask him. You have a right to know. Honestly, how would you have known if you were lacking folic acid? I am sure there is nothing you could have done differently. Don't beat yourself up about it. I hope you get the answers you are looking for!

Chris - Sorry your experience was less than magical. It's hard when you are so used to the way Disney does things. Don't worry about ME. Just be prepared. If we were using it again, I would be better prepared as well. If your flights runs late or anything, I would also be prepared to grab a taxi. That way you won't miss that ADR which would not start your trip off ont he right foot.

Colleen - SUPER cute cut!!!!!! You look awesome. :)

Hi gang,
For some time i've been helping one of the guys from my fire house plan and prepare for a trip to wdw. Him in his late 30's his wife the same age and 2 kids both late teens have never been to disney before. He started asking me questions about it and one of them was " it's kinda like six flags great adventure, right"? Of course i said it's nothing like great adventure. So for the past 3 weeks or so i've been helping them plan. He just called me, as of right now he is in epcot at this exact moment and i could hear all the epcot music and fun in the back ground. He wanted to tell me all the fun they were having and he said it, " now i understand why you go two times a year every year".

Well anyway hearing all the epcot background noise and knowing that they were there, made me miss wdw even more now. I am thrilled they are having a great time. A little rumor too, he told me that test track was shut for most of the morning and early afternoon, unknown why , but its back up and running and they have fast passes for it today at 6pm. They are on line for soaring right now. He told me its very busy and very hot! Which is what i warned him it would be in aug. I think i might have gotten another family hooked on disney, hey disney should hire me or something. I could be thier undercover guest who makes sure family's return to disney year after year, by getting them hooked like we dissers are.:thumbsup2

I cant WAIT to meet up with my girlfriend and her daughter in September...it will be daughters first ever trip (at age 11) and Lora's first REAL trip (they went for ONE day, to The MK, on a Saturday, in JULY!....does not count!)

Im hoping I can hook Lora on the Disney crack....err, I mean Disney too! ;)

And this is one of the reasons the RnRC being down thing, really irks me... I could have went another time had they announced it. ARGH! :headache:

:grouphug: ok first, you should email your questions. ok, secondly...I can tell you that they really don't/won't know why your baby didn't make it. Saying, it "might" be folic acid, is like saying it "might" have been the full moon. Babies were born for hundreds of years before we knew to take folic acid, not to drink, smoke, go bungee jumping while pg. When Patrick died, I wanted, needed and demanded answers. The doctors, specialists, and everyone else gave me their "best" guesses, but one doctor summed it up the best for me, he told me we would really never know why he died, or why any baby dies either in utero or after birth unless the mom is watched and it happens again, then they have more data to follow and can draw conclusions. Thus while I was pregnant with Grace I had level2 u/s's every 10 days, and a gazillion blood draws weekly. When you decide you want to become pg again, they will tell you to take extra folic acid, and they will measure it....but they really really won't ever know. Please don't beat yourself up....trust me, we all know you are...there is nothing you could have done differently that would have changed the outcome, really. :grouphug:

ewww why won't this weather go away. We tried to have a few friends over last night, just for the kids to swim and the grown ups to drink....sounds simple enough right? Well the skeeters were AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we literally couldn't even sit outside...no bug spray, candle, nothing was helping. So we ended up drinking in the basement with the kids playing ddr. which is fine, we had fun...but it's summer for crying out loud, I want to be outside!!!!!

THEN this morning I read in the paper.......that Crystal Lake is doing an aerial spraying for skeeters Sunday night...'cause they're so bad after the rains....

Cops on fast react after terror scare

Checkpoints, radiation sensors out after 'unverified' threat spooks city

The NYPD was out in force in response to a potential threat of a dirty bomb.

A dirty-bomb scare triggered a huge police response last night, with NYPD choppers, boats and special trucks searching the city for radioactive devices even as police brass assured New Yorkers the threat was not verified.

Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said extra radiological sensors were deployed across the city and vehicle checkpoints were set up. He called the mobilization, which began about 6 p.m., "precautionary."

Browne stressed the terror threat, picked up on a Jerusalem-based, English-language Web site with links to Israeli intelligence, was uncorroborated. He said the city's alert status remained at "orange" or high - one step below the highest level of "red" or severe.

But the response was significant. Officials said the alert was for a 50-mile radius around New York.

If the NYPD does not obtain independent confirmation of the threat, it will ratchet down the response by noon today, sources said.

"Earlier this evening, the NYPD began taking several public precautionary measures visible to New Yorkers to guard against an unverified threat that was found on the Internet," Mayor Bloomberg said. "These actions are like those that the NYPD takes every day - precautions against potential but unconfirmed threats that may never materialize."

The threat was picked up on www.debka.com, which posts commentary and analysis on terrorism, intelligence, security, and military and political affairs in the Middle East. The site is known to have solid links to the Israeli intelligence and military communities, but only a so-so record on accuracy.

Debka monitors picked up a rush of suspected Al Qaeda chatter Thursday, the site said. One communication accused Americans of the "grave error" of failing to take seriously the videotape released by American Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn last week.

"They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations," the message said.

Gadahn, a 29-year-old Californian indicted on a charge of treason, is thought to be hiding out in Pakistan.

Another message said the attacks would be carried out "by means of trucks loaded with radioactive material in America's biggest city and financial nerve center." A third mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets.

Top counterterrorism officials in Washington were deeply skeptical of the Debka report.

"The threat is not terribly credible," one senior FBI official told the Daily News.

The FBI said it wasn't mobilizing agents in any of the cities mentioned.

While the Internet threat had dubious credibility, it comes in the wake of several terror-related developments, including Al Qaeda's success at regrouping in Pakistan, the large number of video propaganda releases by Al Qaeda's media wing, the release of old films of terror kingpin Osama Bin Laden giving speeches, the discovery of two car bombs in London and the Glasgow Airport attack.

NYPD brass knew word would leak out as soon as they began deploying radiation detectors, so they decided to announce the mobilization publicly, a source said.

Near a checkpoint at Bowery and Canal St. in Manhattan, more than a dozen cops stopped vehicles so an eight-member radiological detection team could scan them. The process slowed traffic to a crawl, but few motorists complained.

"This is fine. In fact, it's great," said electrical worker Kenny Rodriguez, 38, of Brooklyn, who was moving some furniture in a truck.

"They're protecting us from all the bad things that could happen," he said. "I have no problem with it. It's keeping us safe."

As of now, the FDNY has cancelled all days off and all vacation leave for the rest of aug. Btw this is not the first time something like this was done, every year or so they get a tip and do this. So whats different about this time?? The chief who is the main man in FDNY planning and special operations as well as FDNY counter terrorist expert said he was too nervous. He said it was a tip off from a reliable source, he told us this. If not a matter of if it happens, its a matter of when it happens. He said it is gonna happen maybe now, maybe next year, maybe in a few years but nyc will get hit again like sept 11, he said he was 100% sure of it. I was the senior man on duty last night and i was the only one on duty with sept 11 expirence, meaning everyone else was hired after the attacks. I could see the new guys a little scared and i worried more about them.how would they react to being told to respond to a attack, what if i was on duty and they looked up to me as the senior guy to lead them?? I would be taking a bunch of kids to certain death. I told the chief making sure all the guys were there and would hear me, then if it happens were are ready!

Truth be told if we do get hit again, i know that the city has reasonable losses, we the FDNY, FDNY- EMS and The NYPD are those so called reasonable losses. All the computer senario's showed massive casutles from the NYPD, FDNY and EMS.For the rest of the night i decided to let go of the t.v. watching and we ran senarios and pratices drills in the fire house. I realized it was up to me to keep these guys alive and training is the best way to keep them on thier toes and be prepared for anything. I had them do hundreds of drills and learned one thing, these kids are willing to die to save someone they do not even know, even if it means all 6 or 8 ofthem dying for just 1 person. As a matter of fact these kids were ok with the order to go in and die for thier city if given such a order, if it meant just 1 stranger would live. Then it hit me, i prayed i never have to give an order like that to my guys, and of course i would never give them an order like that and watch them go in alone, i promised them that if ever given an order like that i would be right there with them walking into what ever with them, side by side. I have to go in tonight again, since my days off have been cancelled until this whole thing blows over. As you can see i've been doing a ton of thinking, but good thinking i have been running senarios and training and what if's in my mind, i am preparing myself and my guys for anything at all. Funny thing, with all this training and all this thinking and senarios i've been doing, we will probaly get a cat stuck in a tree tonight and because of how minor it is, none of us will have a clue how to get him out, because it's not a major thing.

HAve a great day all!!!! Don't worry about nyc or us( the FDNY) EMS or the NYPD, we are ready for anything!! We are more prepared today then we were on sept 10, 2001.

Hello everybody!!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend (despite the heat!)!

Yesterday was my birthday and we had a really nice day. Ugh, a year older...:scared1:
