POP CENTURY ... LAST WEEK of SEPT. 07 MEET

eeyore45, kids are pure magic especially when they are young enough to be unspoiled by adults and old enough to talk and convey their thoughts, IF anyone listens to them. I love the 'whys".

I think that most everyone who goes into teaching does it for the same reasons that most ministers and others who do good things for little pay do, it is a calling. However once they get there circumstances can ruin the whole thing. How frustrating to be a teacher and not be allowed to impart wisdom cause you are so busy filling out forms and doing other "busy" work and having everyone and their brother looking over your shoulder and telling you what you are doing wrong. I say let our teachers free and see what happens. It cannot be worse than it is now. The good teachers should have the power to have the bad ones ousted too. Parents, teachers and society as a whole have to work together to take care of our children and lead them in the right way and teach them to think not just to repeat. I had better get off this soap box before someone knocks me off.

Jackets? A covering for the aid? Expensive, uncomfortable? I would like to hear it all, at least for a bit. I would not tell my family I could for a bit though. ;)

I am working at the local museum today. I get a lot of reading in when I do that as we have few visitors. I often do my Christmas cards when I work later in the year.

Hope all you girls and boys are having a wonderful Sunday and learn at least one new thing today. It is what keeps us young and interested and interesting!!

Thank You! :worship: If only we could get politics to lessen their hold a bit, we'd be OK! I am trying to finish up my teaching degree. It has been a long process, and I still have 2 more years, but it will be SO worth it!

aksunshine, thank YOU!! :cheer2:

I cannot think of any one other segment of society that contributes as much to society as teachers do, for better or worse. I do not think ALL teachers perfect but as with most groups (politicians excluded  ) MOST of them.

I see so many children who are so looking forward to going to school only to be disappointed. I imagine many of the teachers are disappointed to when they finally reach their destination to find that they have little power or control over their chosen profession. Politicians have no business in education or health care IMO. Heck, I think politics should butt out of all except the most basic services and even then it should be held at the lowest governmental level possible. The federal government should only be over basic services common to all the states and then let the states control their own unique destinies that are common to all parts of the state then let the counties control most everything else. Just think of the dollars saved that are wasted by sending the money to Washington where it is siphoned off (with little accountability) and much smaller amounts are allocated back to the people, often for projects that we did not want in the first place.

Basic education is the right of every child. Not every child is going to want to go to college but training in something useful to where they can earn a living is possible. American brainpower is what has gotten us to where we once were and if given a chance and the freedom it will raise us back up with good ideas for our future.

Campaign contributions now being accepted.

Common sense has not won an election in decades. I am off to get a good haircut and hire a public relations firm to tell me what to say (or not to say) and then I will reconsider.

Morning septemper pop people! ((((AND HELLLOOO BECKY))));)

Gald to see everyones up and chatty this great sunday morning!:thumbsup2

Good Morning, lots of people is up and here. How's is everyone's weekend going?

Morning all! :)

Mrs. Piglet, we're having a nice relaxing weekend so far...it's hot and humid here in Chicago. How about you?

Hi Becky, glad to see you popping in on the boards!

Good morning all:surfweb: So I'm a little late this morning .. West Coast you know :sad2: Speaking of time difference, I have no idea how my two teenagers are going to react to the 3 hour difference:scared: DH and I are up at the butt crack of dawn so it won't affect us to much but the kids are going to have a hard time. They are both late sleepers at home and I don't want cranky brats. Most likely we are going to give them the option to sleep in and meet us at the parks later but that kinda stinks if we have to do alot of back tracking. I can't imagine choosing sleep over WDW:scared1:

I know Katie will not want to get up with me. I'll be up at 7am - she'll sleep til 1pm!!! I'm trying to convince myself to just go it alone every morning. Do the things in each park she won't want to do anyway. Like read every sign, look at every animal and talk to every CM at AK!!! :lmao:

Last time we went we stayed 8 days, and by the 5th or 6th I was ready for sleeping in, BUT WILL NOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR cause now I know thats the best time to get on the bigger rides(early morning) didnt relize that before-DUH!

Hmm, I'm beginning to think I'm not one of the "cool kids" over here ;) ...every time I post it seems I :scared1: everyone away! :rotfl:

Well, I'll just keep posting even if it's for my own reading enjoyment

Kelli, sometimes I look forward to those teenage years because my baby still gets me up 4-5 times a night and is up at 6am to start the day and so is my 4year old and I would love to sleep in! I'm generally (note: pre-kids) not a morning person and I am a mess until I get my :coffee: in the morning! Dh likes to sleep in too, but that's becasue he works at night and is used to sleeping during the day. But when we're at WDW, we'll be up bright and early....don't want to miss a thing on my first dream trip :)

ummm MickeyMCH - my TEN year old is still getting up at night!! :scared1:

Sometimes she has "night terrors" sometimes she sleepwalks...

I do know how you feel about talking to yourself!! But you really arent here!!

I'll be sure and let you take DD to AK - that is SO her!! We were on the one trail with the bat house... I sat down and asked dd to just tell me when you're ready to go!! :rotfl2: She reads every sign, and then savors every moment - we really dont mind!! Sometimes she gets run over by other people, then they turn and come back to see what she is staring at - usually its reading the signs!! Its quite funny to see adults look at dd look at where she's looking, look at the sign, look at dd, then shrug and move on!! (ok, it was more humorous when she was 6!)

No sleeping in for the Winkler's!

Ditto!!

On a side note, I am now trying to pump it up, and put myself out there for a full time classroom position... I hate rejection... One opening has at least 1,000 applicants! Very scary :scared1: Esp. trying to come up with cover letters and answer "those" questions!

Man! I'm glad it isn't THAT bad around here! DH is taking a SLOW route to get his teaching degree too (his work is paying for it!). Sometime after he finishes, we are packing up and moving to FL, there are many jobs there!

I saw Becky's post about Hunter almost walking...9 months....my DS is 14.5 months and not even close! Anyone else experience this? He just barely started pulling up...he can't walk yet even hanging on, he is just standing. I was hoping he would be walking for our trip, but now I am not so sure, and he will be 16 months...we will definietly have a stroller, but I did not anticipate having to carry him in line and other times...he is 28 lbs and 35 inches :scared1:

keliblue, even my 'sleep til noon' hubby is up and raring to go at DW. I will be the one who gets to sleep in as I will probably sleep past my usual 6 or 7. Bet your kids will hop to, if it suits them. :)

lutherlovr, I am working on my third generation of kids and I can tell you that every one is different. Life is not a contest and your child will walk when it suits him, unless he has a physical problem and I am sure his doctor would have noticed that. Does he have older siblings or doting parents/grandparents who give him what he wants or needs without him having to do it?? If he can stand maybe putting a favorite toy just a step or two out of his reach will encourage him.

eeyore45, I would notice your daughter right off and be having a chat with her, if you would allow. I like to know what a child is thinking and am drawn to ones who are curious. Life is all about rejection. It is better to have been rejected than not to have tried. You learn more from failure. Besides I can think of many cases where I was rejected and it turned out for the best later on. :yay:

mickeymouseclubhouse, I remember those days of wishing my children would turn into teens and be able to do things for themselves. In my experience they need you more then and resent you more and you get no sleep at all. Babies take many naps. Teens generally do not unless they are sleeping ALL the time and then you stay awake worrying about THAT! Maybe the reason no one is around when you are is that you are too cool for us and we are intimidated???

Back from the museum, dinner fixed and some DIS work waiting on me. If no one has checked the Food Porn thread lately there has been a new addition. Great idea by a fellow DISer!!

Hi, guys! :wave2: I haven't been online much lately cause I'm trying to reread the Harry Potter series so that I can read the 7th book before accidently seeing a spoiler for it! :scared:

I miss a lot though when I'm gone most of the week!

Farrah & others w/ tatoos - DH & I don't have any, but DH has always said that he is getting at least two. I don't mind them (both my sisters have several), but they aren't my thing. I'm sure that DH will enjoy hanging out with your DH and the other men there. He's pretty shy too. I've been trying to keep him informed about people I expect us to meet.

I'm pretty excited that there are several of us in the same age group... DH & I are both 28... although, I'll have a birthday first of September and be 29 by then :sad1: That is not to say that I am not equally excited to meet everyone from all age brackets! :thumbsup2 Some of my best friends have been the ones who are old enough to be my mom or dad

Slightly Goofy & Eeyore45 - My mother's side of the family has a lot of deafness and mom is pretty fluent in ASL. She will be there w/ me at the POP party. It is nice to find the little common links that we all have ahead of time. :goodvibes I am always amazed at how people can lip read :confused3 I would be so lost if I had to! :rolleyes1 Not that I have a clue most of the time anyway!

On the subject of sleeping late - DH & I (since we have no kids) love to sleep in on the weekends. BUT we will not be sleeping in at Disney!! NO WAY!! My dad keeps saying that we will come back to the room for naps mid-day...Hmm.. Not too sure about that one either I'm not too good at napping, especially when there are SO many cool things I could be doing!! Maybe though by the third or fourth day, I MIGHT want a nap.

We don't have much time left until our trip!! :cool1: :woohoo: :cheer2:
I'm starting to get a bit nervous though, cause I have a LOT going on between now and then!! We have a big SciFi convention that we go to every year on Labor Day weekend. I have a lot of preparations to do before then that I have been neglecting due to my Disney obsession. Plus I'm trying to finish the Harry Potter thing. Then I still have lots of house related things to do, since we moved in beginning of March. I promised my co-workers that I would have them out for a party when I got moved in and it has been 5 months now! :scared: So, I'm trying to figure out if I can squeeze in a party before September :faint: Oh, well, I will just do the best I can and at least my Disney trip will be here in a flash!! :woohoo:

K, enough rambling from me. Have a GREAT week everyone!!:hippie:

Foxfiregrrl, many of my friends are old enough to be my children, grandchildren and even on the end of the spectrum, my parents. Life is like a box of chocolates, I love in all their shapes, flavors but I like the 'nuts' the best!!

I am not sure that I read lips well, it is just something I have had to pick up along the way. I can hear some and then I use the lip reading thing to help me a bit more but I still get confused over words and come out with some odd things sometimes. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it!!

BTW, I am a science fiction fan. I absolutely love the old Star Trek episodes. Much wisdom to be learned from them even though the not so special effects are laughable as well as the acting. Have you ever been to MGM during Star Wars weekend?

Slightly Goofy

I've been hoping someone would set up the Food Porn thread like that for a while now! Glad someone finally did! I added a new outfit to my pre- trippie!
