Polyneisan rehab info

I've not been to the Polynesian at all, (to WDW either come to that). I've looked at the polynesian info on the DIS and on Tikiman's site. I changed my reservations from the CR to the Poly, because we thought that the CR being booked full in Dec AND undergoing rehab at the same time might make for a less than magical vacation. So, if we have an older non refurbished room at the Polynesian, will we be unhappy? Will it be rundown? If I request a particular longhouse (I know, no guarantees) hoping for the newly refurbished room, is there any liklihood of getting it?

Gee, I thought the tough part was choosing a resort...who knew a disney vacation required so much research! :confused3

Even the rooms that will not be done by then were just rehabed (not with the new look but the way the rooms look now) in the last 2 years so the rooms should still be in very good condition.

Thanks! That is good to know. There seem to be so many negative posts about various resorts.

When you visit my pages if you click on a longhouse page you will see a date when it was last rehabed at the top.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about Rapa Nui. When we were at the Poly last week, we saw the construction going on in Rapa Nui. Your friend was right, Steve, the rooms were gutted. It was strange to see them that way. I also saw the painters priming the first floor rooms.

Any one want to guess on the chance that rehab rooms will be available at the end of Aug???

If I had to guess from past experience I would say slim chance. If I had to bet my life I would say no. In the past it took the better part of 3 months for them to replace carpet and furnishings in the rooms. I know some of the longhouses already had extensive work done inside and out so they might go quicker but I also know when it comes time to do Tahiti it is a much larger building and it also had some damage from last years hurricanes that still needs to be fixed so I would think Tahiti will take longer and they have not even started Tahiti yet. Last check Rapa Nui rooms were gutted and I don’t know of any additional structural, electrical or exterior work that was needed so maybe they will have it done by the end of August but they are not saying when it will be done.

Even once they are done the chances of getting one of the new rooms is very slim. Not only are there only 69 rooms in Rapa Nui but some of them are Handicap accessible rooms that will be used for those in need.

Steve,

When I'm at the Polynesian next week :teeth: I will see if I can get some pictures and updates regarding the construction for you. Don't worry - I won't go "backstage" or anything. I'll just see what I can find out the old fashioned way - asking.

I'm down to only 6 days until my trip! I can't wait!!!

Anne

I have read all the pages and it seems so confusing because i know all the dates are changing and i about construction delays.
Is there any of the longhouses with the new look completed?

I haven't read the whole thread( I'm suppose to be working :earseek:!)
but are any of the "test rooms" in the Hawaii building now?

I've gone back on forth on Lagoon/garden view because the AP rates were terrible for the Lagoon view. :sad2:
We've always stayed lagoon view, so I don't know if I'm going to very disappointed with the garden view. :confused3

I'd also like to thank Steve, for all of his Polynesian info. He is why we stayed there for our first trip in 2000. :flower:

The Hawaii building is closing completely September into October for renovations. I assume the room changes will take place then.

Hi Everyone ~

There's been so much talk about the Hawaii building rehab. We are planning to go 10/23 for seven nights, POLY LVC. Last I had heard was that Hawaii would be closed 9/17 through 10/11. People on the boards have even been talking about being bumped during those time frams. I got these dates from the boards here and a CM verified the info for me about three weeks ago. (Of course, always subject to change, especially during hurricane season.) Well, today I sent an email to IPO asking if there had been any changes. The response I got was:

"We do not have set dates as to when this will be taking place. Renovation schedules are always subject to change, but it looks like this renovation will occur during the fall. If this renovation will directly effect your reservation, a member of our Central Reservations Team will be contacting you to discuss other options for you and your party. We appreciate your patience during this time and are very sorry for any frustration this may have caused."

Now I'm very nervous...Has anyone heard any more recent updates on the dates. Tikiman???????

Thanks!

No the only dates I heard were the ones you mentioned and they did say that it could change like it has with every other date they have had for the other longhouses.

Thanks Steve! Wish they'd pick some dates, whatever they may be, and stick with them! Of course, I've read that they've "bumped" everyone during those dates and that's got to be costing WDW a pretty penny!!! ::yes:: So, when $$$$ is involved maybe they'll stick to the time frame and get it done! (One can hope!! ;) )

I'm one that's hoping! If they switch dates now what would they do? Free upgrade folks to concierge since they aren't taking reservations for concierge for those dates and then bump more people for the new dates? They must be getting the supplies they need now if they are doing work on other lounghouses. So I would think they'd stop work on those other lounghouses to get concierge done during the shut down. Is that just my Disney dreaming/wishful thinking that they'll be doing their absolute best to keep to those dates? What are they doing with the concierge staff during those dates? I know some will still be helping folks plan up coming trips but won't they be overstaffed with no guests? I will understand if things go a bit slower than planned and we get bumped. And I'm sure other things (like huricanes...) could happen to slow things down. I'm sure they'll have someplace (Poly or concierge elsewhere) to put us-right? I really want Poly concierge so I'm sticking to my Poly reservation and hoping for the best.

Friday 10/14 I arrive with DD(6). On 10/16 my DH, DS(4), DD(2) and friend arrive and we all leave on 10/23. What time do you arrive? We have a 2:50 flight so we'll probably have our leaving the Poly pout on by 12:45.

Any updates regarding lunch at Kona Cafe? It's hard to believe that the management is thinking of closing it for lunch. I thought it was the most popular sit-down lunch option on the monorail line.

Also: are the old clothing stores on the first floor closing?

lovesdumbo ~ We'll be passing each other (pretty much). We're driving and if all goes well we'll be arriving at POLY 10/23 between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
