Polyneisan rehab info

Well it looks like Rapa Nui wwas going to be closed to do the rehab and they did start work on the rooms but one of the floors did not get started and they were overbooked so they had to keep one of the floors open for guests. They plan on closing the whole building and completing the upgrade of the rooms to the entire building. There is no set date to be completed yet.

I'm going back next week to Disney. We have PS at Ohana, so I will check the grounds, especially Rapa Nui. (I know another trip! But staying at POFQ unless I get spontaneous again on the trip and move to Poly- that is if any rooms available.).

Thanks for the update Steve!

So I guess there will be no access to Capt. Cooks starting in Sept., this is not great news as we use it for a simple breakfast, and it is counter service on the dining plan. We didn't want to have to use table service for breakfast.

I don’t remember anyone saying Captain Cooks will be closed. I don’t know for sure but no one has even mentioned CCs being closed when they work on expanding it. From what I can tell they are building the new full kitchen and it might be in the area where the old shops were. I am not sure but if they do it that way than they can work on it with CCs open and once they finish they can close the old CCs and make it more seating. Until they do it or they tell us what they are doing I would not assume it will be closed that whole time.

Since we stay concierge we rarely use Captain Cooks, but I would prefer them to be open "just in case" we wanted anything when we are there in October. Once again, thanks for the info, Steve. :)

WOW what a remark, well for those of use who do use Captain Cooks we will be eating are breakfast there so our need is more than "just in case".

My thought exactly. Surely it wasn't meant as elitist as it came across. No offense to anyone, but it really did sound elitist.

I'm glad to hear CC's will remain open during the rehab. For those of us who can't quite scrape together the coin for concierge (just staying at the Poly uses enough coin as it is), CC's is crucial for breakfast and those quick mug refills.

If anyone is having canceling their Lagoon Concierge room in Dec would you let me know they have no availability right now Dec 1-3. I would hate someone to have to cancel but I know a lot of us planners, plan trips and then change dates.

I am just suggesting that I believe they will remain open but there is no official response or information from the Polynesian. I am also suggestion that there is no information that leads me to believe they will be closed.

And remember even if CC does have to close for a bit, you can always grab a quick breakfast from the coffee counter by Kona....pastries, bagels, donuts, fresh fruit.

But Kona itself is sooooo good, usually fast and not much more expensive than counter service. Plus there is always room service. :sunny:

Oh, I am so sorry if that sounded "elitist" to someone. :confused3

Please re-read it as humbly saying "since we choose to pay for concierge service, we are able to grab breakfast, drinks and snacks in the lounge instead of spending the same $$ in CCs, so even though we don't rely on CCs for very much it sure is nice to have it there for those times we do need it, and I am glad it's there for everyone, myself included." I did say that I was GLAD IT WOULD BE OPEN though, not sure why that comes off as rude or "elitist". It's not like I said, "you peasants shall starve whilst myself and the rest of the kings and queens shall feast on cake in concierge". As you said, it's not like staying in any room at the Poly is cheap! I thought I made a pretty simple statement. Do you think it's "rude" or "elitist" to even mention I am staying in concierge? I didn't realize that made people feel bad. Sorry. I should probably change my siglines too. I only put that in there so if someone wanted to specifically ask me something about concierge they would know I had some experience there. Again, my apologies. I had no idea people would take offense that we stay concierge. :confused3

I'll gladly re-read your post in the light you just put it in. Thanks. As I said, you probably did not intend for your post to sound elitist. I guess I'm a little sensitive on here, since there really are some posters who quite consistently make some pretty elitist statements about staying in concierge service versus staying non-concierge. Most of those people do not sound like bad people, or are probably even conscious of sounding snobby/elitist, but they very much sound that way, especially when they consistently refer to "private" concierge lounges, or set aside seating in resort restaurants for CL guests (any way you slice it, PS guests and walkups are waiting longer when a table is held for concierge guests only). An outright elitism/snobbery intent may not be there, but it sure reads that way to people who watch their pennies year round just to afford maybe a week at Pop.

BUT, it very much appears you are NOT an elitist/snob, and I sincerely apologize for any implication of the sort by me. I just read your post with a jealous eye, I suppose.

Goodness, don't worry about it. I didn't read it that way at all--you were referring to just in case for your specific situation. I was actually surprised someone would interpret it in a negative way. I don't see that at all but that's just me. :wizard:

Does anyone know if Rarotonga has had it's rehab?

Thanks!

I read (somewhere.. and please anyone correct me if I'm wrong) somewhere that it is one of the last ones that has been refurbished from last year 2004. As far as the NEW LOOK, they are just starting and it is starting from Rapa Nui according to Tikiman (Steve).

LOL Actually im confused!
We booked Tokelau, we were thinking of Rarotonga, that is why im confused...

Any news on Tokelau?

Thanks again

Tokelau is due to have the new rooms added sometime this year but there is no firm schedule as of right now. The only building getting the new room right now id Rapa Nui. The last plan I heard was to have Rapa Nui, Aotearoa, Tahiti, Tokelau and Hawaii done this year but we shall see.
