Polyneisan rehab info

Hmmm, now I"m concerned, we are booked in Aotearoa in Oct.,

You cannot be "booked" in a specific longhouse unless you're in concierge. You can request a certain longhouse, but there is no guarantee. So if you've requested Aotearoa, and it's undergoing rehab, simply request another longhouse.

OK Steve,

I have a question that solely relies on your personal experience and preference.

Some info for you first:
I requested Aotearoa because I "thought" that it would be complete by July. We're going July 25th. Now my understanding is that there won't be any "newly" refurbed rooms ready yet.

So my question to you is:

Should we stick with our Aotearoa request or request Tahiti? I know that these are only requests and that there are no guarantees. I'm just curious which building you like better and why. BTW, I have two small children and will be using the monorail most often.

Thank you. Your opinion is sincerely valued.

Mahalo!

If your sole reason for requesting Aotearoa was for the "new room", then yes--I would choose a different longhouse. You have two small children, will be using the monorail frequently, and I'm presuming spending some time at the pools. Personally, I would choose something nearer the pool areas--Samoa, Nuie, Rarotonga, or Tokelau (my personal preference of the bunch).

Tokelau would place you equaldistant to the GCH for the MK monorail and TTC for the EPCOT monorail. Also, you are a short hop to the bus stop and just outside the quiet pool with a short walk to the volcano pool. Access to everything, nice central location, and lovely garden views (with potential views of the castle).

Of course, that's just my opinion--a case could be made for any of the longhouses. I just know that when my kids were small, I would not have wanted to be at the west side of the Polynesian Resort--too many steps to the pool! ;)

TIKIMAN.....

So good to see you on the boards!! :cool1:

MANY THANKS for your past pm's and very useful tips about the Poly.

:grouphug: Had a "Magical" Vacation!!!:grouphug:

BTW...absolutely miss your web site.
Carol

Tess,

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate your opinions based on your experiences. I'll be doing some research into the longhouses you mentioned. Thank you again!

Mahalo!

Okay, I REQUESTED Aotearoa because we like the monorail view, and as I understand, it is one of the non-smoking longhouses.

O.K., newbie here. Nice to see all the great updates from Tikiman (hey bud, is your site down??). Anyway, my family are planning to stay concierge in Hawaii in early December. Given Disney's reno timelines, do you think we're going to be OK with that? It's our kids first trip to WDW (age 7 & 10), and we really wanted to make it special (I think Polynesian is the most special resort) and included the concierge in Hawaii. I'm assuming everything in Hawaii will be back open by then, but always grow concerned when renos are happening (although having seen some of the new furniture and bedding, the changes look exciting). I'd hate to have to change, but do you think Hawaii will be back open the first week of December? Thanks for your help!!

I've had my ressies for a year for Sept. I've been told I have to move. I've been offered Sugar Loaf Conc in Grand Floridian, 12th floor Contemporary Conc or one of the EPCOT resorts.

The 2 MK resorts I've been offered are more $, but less of a concierge from what I'm reading. My TA says they won't upgrade me to main Conc at GF or 14th floor at CR.

At this point we're leaning toward BC. Are the EPCOT resorts Concierge services on par with the Poly? (besides the Lagoon view from the Lounge :sniff)

I've heard great things about concierge at the Yacht Club. I'd pick that one over GF Sugar Loaf and CR 12th floor.

I am also staying at the poly 10/5-10/11, we have booked a lagoon view. During the reservation I requested to be close to the GCH and the volcano pool ( we have three kids 2,5,7) so those two requests are important to us. My question, does anyone have any info if Aotearoa's rehab will be finished by then ( this is the longhouse we stayed at two years ago and we LOVED it!)...or if the rehab won't be done does anyone have any other suggestions for certain longhouse requests, bearing in mind that we payed fgor a lagoon view, but would also like to be close to the GCH and the pool. We absolutely loved our first experience at the poly and decided to spend the extra money again this time....I hope we made the right choice! Thanks to all and have great vacations!!!!

You definitely made the right choice, suzquig, even if we can't get the building we've requested, any longhouse will be wonderful.

Sorry I missed most of these questions. I never got any notification that messages were left and things have been busy with us heading out for the 4th of July weekend.

Scanne,

With the schedule changing I cannot give a good answer on what will be done when. I did get a message today that mattresses were being removed from Aotearoa and they are going to try to check on the status for me but it should be started soon if it is not already. That is the location of the test rooms so they decided to do that one first.

Imhall2000,

I would say if you want a clean room without a lot of new materials than many of the longhouses were redone (with the old look) over the last few years and are in great condition. Maybe go for one of those like Samoa, Rarotonga or Fiji.

Imatoad,

Rarotonga also has a view of the monorail on one side and the East Pool (quiet pool) on the other so you can request that if you want a view of the monorail.

Bengalman,

Yeah the site is doen until July 4th and I will not be able to add the updates until I get back from Disneyland this weekend and do some work on the site. Who knows what is going to happen with the renovation schedule but I know they are planning on having a lot done before the Christmas Holiday including Captain Cook’s I would guess that Hawaii would be open before the Holiday season also.

Frankiemom,

I believe they told me they would build the new Captain Cook’s over where the shops were and when they are done over there they would close the old Captain Cook’s and open the new one. I don’t know if there will be any days where neither will be open.

Mom2febgirls,

I would go for Yacht Club concierge over any of the others.

Suzquig,

There is no info on when Aotearoa will be done and there are no set dates for anything other than Hawaii being down. If anyone tells you different it is only rumor since the staff at the Polynesian who are in charge of the rehab don’t even have specific dates yet. Even the few dates they have mentioned they follow up with the statement that it could change.

On another thread by CathyRN, polyfan reported that some rooms on the 1st and 3rd floors of Rapa Nui are being worked on.....furniture and carpets removed. :cool1:

I'm going to bump that thread in hopes polyfan can tell us more. :sunny:

That is funny that you say that because on Friday I got a call with the same info. My friend was there walking past Rapa Nui and said he could see into the rooms and they were gutted on the 1st and 3rd floor but people were in the 2nd floor. I was just trying to get more info before I posted and he is getting some photos of it for me. Looks like they changed their schedule again.

Rapa Nui was supposed to be done in January (or started then) and last report was it got pushed out to Fall and Aotearoa was suposed to start but it is still open. I am having someone walk the resort and let me know what they find out. Since they cannot stick to the schedule I guess we will just have to wait and see as each one gets worked on.

Aloha

Steve

It is fun to do investigative work at the Polynesian while on vacation, isn't it? :rotfl2:

Hopefully, polyfan or your friend ;) can fill us in more.

We love the courtyard side of Rapa Nui. So pretty and peaceful as well as convenient to the car. My husband in particular loves the little lounge area.

I usually spend the better part of 2 days walking around to each longhouse just to see if anything is different. This time I was doing part of it by phone telling him what to look at and what building he was looking at.

I hope to find out more soon.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks for all the updates Steve. Glad to hear the Captain Cook's menu is in for an overhaul but I hope the rumor about Kona lunch going away is wrong!
:(

I also am looking for a link to pix of the new room design.
