Polyneisan rehab info

Hi Steve:

Just got back from the Polynesian LVG this morning. Met your friend, what a nice guy :) He wasnt' feeling well yesterday, hope he's better soon!

Personally, I didn't see anything going on, but we didn't walk around to many of the other buildings; basically walked between the marina, Hawaii building, the pool, and GCH. What a place the Polynesian is :sunny:

Yeah Sean was sick last week just before he left. How was the weather? He called me when he was walking over to the TTC the first night and saw Rapa Nui being worked on. He was going to check on a few things and take some photos for me. He called again on Saturday from the lounge because Chef Dick wanted to talk to Tara and I but I missed his call.

So did you like the Polynesian? I know you were worried for so long how the trip was going to be.

DH and I were very sick just before our trip, and also during our first few days. Must be something going around. :/

The day before we left the power supply in my computer died. DH just ordered a new one for me, and is having them overnight it, and he will install it tomorrow, so I'll back on my own computer tomorrow where it's easier to type. Right now I am on his secondary computer, with the keyboard tottering on the edge of his desk. lol

I am dying to start my reports! LOL

Anyway...we LOVED the Polynesian. :lovestruc Maybe I'll start a new thread and at least start with some of my comments. We really liked both resorts and would return to them again, but there's just something special about the Polynesian :sunny:

Ok, off to start a short report in a new thread!

Seaspray, did anyone in concierge mention the schedule for Hawaii/concierge rehab? (or what they will be doing?)

If things go as planned, I will be one of the first to stay in the new rooms in Hawaii--! That's exciting, and I promise to take lots of pictures!

I usually spend the better part of 2 days walking around to each longhouse just to see if anything is different.

Now that is dedication.

We've always enjoyed noticing the changes around the Polynesian but I do try to keep an extra eye out now for all of the Polynesian lovers on this board.

From our last trip in May, I will contribute one new piece of info. A while back people were talking about seating areas in and around the longhouses. I noticed one this trip that I had never seen before. On the second floor of Samoa on the balcony at the Southeast corner there was a patio table and chairs. It may have been there for years or it might be brand new  but this was the first time I noticed it.

Chamonix, we're hoping Hawaii is open by the time we check in as well.

I am confused BCV23.

The balconies don’t have much more room for anything other than the two chairs and the one small table that are there now but what is more confusing is that there are no balconies on the second floor of Samoa. Now there is a patio deck area between Niue and Rarotonga that has a patio table and chairs but that is not any one room’s balcony but a connection between the two buildings.

Me too! Arriving 10/14 and trying not to worry about rehab. I'm arriving with just DD for 2 nights so I think I can take lots of photos before the room gets too messy. :teeth: Can't wait! I've started a countdown calendar with DD. Printed off monthly calendar pages for July - October and put the count down days on each date. Every night we cover up the old count of days with a "thumb print" photo from our prior trips. We're double digit dancing now! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Tikiman, this was on the platform between the stairwells if that makes sense. I have never walked up those steps...we have always had first floor rooms. So it may have been there forever. I only looked up there as I passed because I heard a family there. I'm not talking about the one near the bridge between Raratonga and Niue.

Now if I was a good researcher like you, I would have walked around and checked some of the other buildings for this.

Oh yeah the one that is in a common area. I though you were talking about a room balcony. Yeah many of the longhouses have secret little seating areas. Some are inside and some are outside.

Aloha

Steve

Yep, the inside ones I know of as well as the outside one near the bridge. Is this one new, Tikiman?

As far as I know they have alwya been there.

We are going back home to the Poly Concierge in September. I am glad to hear that Chef Dick is still there. My children love him! :cheer2: :cheer2:

He is indeed still there :) We sampled the ribs he made and they were excellent, the best ribs I've ever had. They were so tender the meat fell off the bone, and they were very flavorful. I took a picture of him, which I will probably put on my web site once my DH downloads them for me. When I saw him for the first time it was like seeing a celebrity! :earboy2:

I can't wait to read about your trip!! Dying to know how you and your DH enjoyed the massage. Did you have a female or male therapist? I had an amazing male therapist last week and have booked several massages w/ him for my upcoming trip :cloud9: I'm going to be spending LOTS of time at the Spa :cloud9: :wizard:

Been trying off and on for a couple of hours now to post the beginnings of my resort reviews and I keep getting error pages! Is anyone else having a problem posting a new thread??? Fortunately I've been saving it in Word, so I can paste it into a new thread when this problem is resolved :(

I believe it is something to do with long titles. Somebody on the Tech Board recommended having a small title, then editing it once it has been posted to put in your "proper" title.

Here is what is new. There have been rumors floating around with some good and some bad info about the rehab (adding the new rooms) to Hawaii concierge longhouse. Here is the official answer.
They are stating that Hawaii will be closed from September 17th – October 11th with still a chance that these dates will change or the construction will go over schedule. They are not going to move the concierge but instead have NO concierge available during those dates except in Tonga but no lounge in Hawaii available. People are being moved to other resort concierge.
They have been doing some trimming and removing of trees and bushes from the lagoon views of Hawaii longhouse to improve some of the partly blocked views.
Also, Captain Cook’s will start the expansion into the old stores in September and the intension is to finish before the Christmas holiday season. I guess there is a new menu that has been seen by some of the staff and it looks greatly improved from the old Captain Cook’s. They are increasing the amount of tables and getting a full kitchen so food does not have to be brought from the upstairs kitchen. There is a rumor Kona will only serve breakfast and dinner after the new CC’s opens.
Aotearoa was supposed have started work to redesign the rooms but it looks like work has not started yet. At this rate I think there is little chance they will have all the longhouses done by July 2006 as reported by others.
That is all for now.
Aloha
Steve

Thanks Steve and everyone for all the info on the Polynesian Concierge.

I just booked our first stay at the Poly concierge yesterday!! I'm sooooo excited . We have never been to the Poly or stayed concierge. We will be there next May, and are excited to stay in the new rooms. Thanks to all of you for helping me make the decision. From all the advice on these forums, I joined AAA, got the discount, and saved almost $500!

When I made our reservation, I told to CM I wanted a non-smoking room. She told me that all of the Hawaii Building will be non-smoking once the renovations are finished.

Has anyone also heard that?????

This is great news in itself!

The last time we went in December, the first room they put us in had a completely blocked view of the castle. We might as well have been facing the parking lot. WE WANT OUR CASTLE-VIEW!

So I went downstairs and spoke with an awesome CM who working her magic fingers and scored us the 3rd floor "Tikiman Suite", room 3505. Just perfect view of everything...

But my point is that for many, that castle-view is everything in a lagoon view room. Many of us just want to be able to look out our window and see it. It just helps complete the magic, IMHO.

So this is very good news. Hopefully they will remove any trees that impede the view of the castle from any room. Then anyone staying in any room in the Hawaii building will get the view that they paid for.
