As is, I would choose the green and brown outfit. :)

No, Belle.....now ya got me thinking. I am wondering if a dress is being too dressy....I COULD do a nice jeans outfit. Sadly, the only nice jeans I have are capris. But...maybe I could put together a little something different.

Wear this one!

It says it's a skater dress, so maybe he likes skateboards and ya'll will hit it off!

Honestly, I think the red dress might be a little dressy, but the green one is great. If he ends up wearing jeans or cargo pants or something, the green dress would still look fine, but the red might make him feel like he didn't dress up enough?

Keep in mind, I tend to way over-think things. :) Just wear what you feel the prettiest in and that will be the best bet.

Isn't it freezing cold where you are right now? Are you going to be really comfortable in a dress and I don't mean temperature comfortable but like tugging and worrying about the dress comfortable?

I like the green dress, but those shoes are not good and no how with that cardigan. That cardigan will give you no shape with that dress. I like the v neck because it will make you look taller with helping give you some neck.

I would wear the last cardigan with the red shoes (super cute but not with that red dress!!), pick out a cute button down or longer neck shirt and some dark wash jeans(every girl needs good fitting dark wash jeans).

Good luck on the date, don't be so nervous. He already knows you and likes you enough to get to know you better. Just relax and enjoy the experience.

You have some really cute pieces OP! I love the photos :goodvibes

Personally, I agree with others that the green/blue dress is adorable but that the plaid shoes and cardigan do not go with it. Whoever said a cardigan would mess with the lines in the dress was correct.

It is very cure on its own though and perfect for a casual date.

Dark jeans and the last cardigan with a v neck plain shirt and the robot necklace would be more casual but still totally appropriate and cute as well.

You are right that the red dress is too much for this kind of date, plus you'd freeze! And I agree that it is blingy enough and the necklace would be too much with it.

And, no, as someone said, you do not need to have your outfit approved by the DIS. But girl talk can be fun, and a little guidance from outside eyes on outfits is something a lot of us like, especially when we are dressing for an occasion we do not have often.

and, also a PP mentioned just being yourself. That is totally true, but I think you can be yourself and still be the "put a little more effort into my look for the date" self.
Heck I have been married nearly 18 years and with my DH over 22 years. Last night we had a dinner "date" just the two of us, and I curled my hair and wore make up and a cute dress. I do not do that often, but I can put a little more effort in to a date look and be the "date me" once in a while and it is nice for both of us :)

Green dress, black shoes' NO sweater. If it's too cold for sleeveless, get a cute pashmina and wear it around your shoulders.

Oh Dear, 2 disclaimers. I have watched a LOT of "What Not To Wear," and I am, sincerely not trying to be rude, please don't take offense, plese.

The red dress is cute, but way too dressy, and that robot necklace is just no. The striped dress also is not a good choice, you know what they say about horizontal stripes. That green dress is far too matronly, and, oddly, the shoes look pre-teen.

You are a young person. You want an outfit that says casual and comfortable, but stylish. I think the pitfall of women is that they don't dress their age, and you are going too far in both directions.

Are you able to make a shopping trip? Here comes my Stacy and Clinton....

A nice pair of dark wash jeans or casual tailored pants. Something with a v-neck that has a waistline that hits you at the smallest area of your torso. A long necklace is good, it creates a long line, but that robot one is, again, too immature looking.

You want it to look like you are someone who takes care of themselves, but you don't want to make it look like you are making this a huge dress-up ordeal. Do you have a good department store near you? Find pieces that say "stylish" but not trendy and look like they are of some quality.

I disagree. I don't see the green dress as matronly at all. And I think the robot necklace is perfect...for the OP. I think it would be a mistake to completely erase the OP's personality from the outfit.

I do think, if the OP can swing it, she should buy a nice, flattering pair of dark wash jeans and wear the last cardigan over a simple white top with them. I think, for the OP, the robot necklace and the red shoes would be great accessories.

I agree :thumbsup2

I think there is a knack to working your own personality into a look that is also flattering and appropriate to the situation. I think the robot necklaces can absolutely do that if paired with the right casual outfit (but the red dress has enough bling on it'S own, and not really a good neckline for a necklace anyway).

and I do not think the LLBean dress, without the cardigan, is at all matronly. It is a bit more of the traditional feminine/conservative look, but not in a bad way, and that DOES reflect OP's personality.

I love the green dress, but it looks like something for summer. Didn't you say it's snowing?
And those plaid shoes look like they had their best time
Otoh, I LOVE those shoes in the picture with the red dress!!!!!

I also vote for nice jeans, white v-neck top, that last cardigan, and your robot-necklace.
Is there a mall nearby where you can have your makeup done?
Any chance you can get off from work (earlier) and have a quick trip to a hair salon/ nail place? I always feel way better if I am sure that my nails and hair look great!

Good luck on your date! Don't forget to tell us about it!

Get new shoes really. Those look like something my grandma would wear. Go out and buy some nice heals.

Again, quit trying so dang hard, dress up, be yourself, have a great time. Then report back and tell us all the details.

Yes girl talk is definitely great. And while yes, I have friends and even a sister I could go to with this kind of What Should I Wear? stuff...the thing is...when it comes to me and guys, they tend to get worked up. Which I LOVE about them. I love that they are so positive and really want me to do well and all that. But, their "Oh this is going to be so great" excitedness would I think maybe even make me more nervous. And, if things totally bomb, I don't want to have to deal with the aftermath and questions.

The striped dress also is not a good choice, you know what they say about horizontal stripes.

That outfit sounds wonderful, and some other posters have suggested something similar. Unfortunately, I don't have any plain white shirts. So, I will go through my closet and see what I do have.

As for the other dress...I know horizontal stripes are typically a no-no. But, it actually looks really nice. I wouldn't have bought it if it looked terrible on me. But, it isn't the most comfortable dress in the world so...that's why I'm not a fan in this particular situation.

Yes, they are pretty beat up to heck. But, they are soooooooooo comfortable. Where is Rose and her inner Stacy and Clinton? Haha.

Sadly, no malls or department stores in my small town. We have a Walmart, and I don't begrudge WM, because they do have some decent clothes, and aren't terrible in a pinch.

I really don't have time for the salon today. BUT, thank you for reminding me....I meant to do my nails! Or at least slap a coat of clear gloss on.

Okay the black shoes and the red ones are actually very new. And, I have a couple of pairs of high heels, but like I said I am not hugely adept at walking in them. I can get by, but I don't know that I want to risk it on a first date with lots of slippery surfaces around. (Funny story: on my last first date, I wore heels, and we ended up having to walk through soft grass, and I ended up sinking in the mud and getting stuck. I can laugh about it now. Lol)

Can I make a suggestion for the future when you are out shopping?

If you struggle to walk in heels (I never mastered that myself, so I fully commiserate): dressy flats still look nice and truthfully dressy flats and you looking and feeling comfortable and walking without hesitation looks much nicer than heels and you looking and feeling uncomfortable and stumbling.

and, get some decent jeans and other basics (like a white v neck Tee). You can do a lot with basics to change them up in all sorts of ways, and you'll be comfortable and able to move around easily, etc.

BTW; I actaully think the plaid shoes are an adorable style, but they do not fit the dress, and as others mention they are too worn out for something that doesn't involved lots of walking outside where you might not want to wear nicer shoes. I bet when they were newer they looked great with capris.

OP - A lot of people are telling you to put a white top under that cardigan. I can tell you that white knit tops do nothing for us bigger girls. I'd vote for a red top and then the red shoes plus jeans or black pants.

Re: high heels: You need to practice. Practice. And practice some more.
With my first pair of stiletto's, I think I walked at least 15 miles around the living room. And in front of a mirror. Until I felt really confident in them, lol! I also practiced in the driveway.

I agree what others have said: invest in decent quality basics. Buy the GOOD stuff, even if it's pricier. Then you can pimp it up with cheaper accessories.
And don't forget: a decent outfit starts with perfect undergarments. They can make or break an outfit! Nothing as awful as breasts flapping around or hanging too low or whatnot. As long as everything is kept in place where it belongs by decent (and sexy, because that's not mutually exclusive) undergarments, outfits will look so much better!
Add to that standing up straight and wallah, you're ready to conquer the world!

I like the green dress and the red dress. I would ditch those plaid sneaker flat shoe things, they do not look flattering to me.

Can you let us know what you decide? Maybe snap a photo for us of the final decision?
