police on property question

i don't speed & i don't drink & drive but i was just wondering if my DH should be on "look-out" for police on property as we leave the F&W festival in our rental car in a few weeks. are there police on property who pull you over & ticket you for things such as speeding?

Orange county police do patrol the roadways of WDW.

Last few times I've been there I've seen more police, and it wasn't disney security. It was the sheriff. It's easy to speed on property because traffic is so light and roads so nice. So yes be careful.

yup! Orange County Sheriffs are using radar and ticketing on WDW property, at WDW's request. I spent a day at F&W with a friend. I was fine to drive to the Contemporary for dinner. My husband met us there. Between a day in the sun and more wine with dinner, I decided to leave the car in the valet lot at the CR overnight and pick it up the next day. It was well worth paying the calet fee (we normally get it for free with DDE)

When I came back the next day and explained the situation while offering to pay, they graciously told me not to worry about it, that they were glad I had been responsible.

There are many Orange County Sheriffs Deputies directly on site (they have a substation and full access to the property). There are also occasional Florida Highway Patrol Officers, FDOT Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (who can still ticket anyone), and Osceola County Sheriffs Deputies (who can ticket in certain parts of WDW). I've seen them most often on SR 536 exiting/entering property, and directly around Downtown Disney, but that doesn't restrict where they can be.

And they WILL ticket. I've received 2 tickets for going 6 over the limit in the last few years from Orange County sheriffs on property.

one point I forgot to mention however... Disney security cannot ticket you, nor pull you over. They are a private security force, NOT a police agency.

pr surfer, tix for 6 over the speed limit sounds strict to me...thanks for giving me the warning. I didn't see any police last time (jan. 05) but i wasn't looking for them either as I was getting around property on the POP bus. this nov, we'll be in a rental car & we'll have to really pay attention to the speed limit signs & obviously watch what we drink at the F&W festival (wish we were staying on property!) Thanks.

Going six over the speed limit and getting a ticket is standard these days in Florida. For anyone who is driving. My poor husband, who is such a stickler for the rules, was doing 74 MPH, got pulled over and got a ticket. The cop said he was doing 81 (there's no way in heck he was going that fast because his head would have exploded). He got a ticket for doing 76 which wasn't true but when you are pulled over and you are five hours away from home and there's no way to fight the ticket, what are you going to do? That was $46 we could have used at Disney World.

Yes, the police presence at Disney World has picked up quite a bit.

I see Orange County somewhere on property on almost a daily basis.

one of their favorite places to sit and wait for stupid speeders is on the access road to the MK hotels....right after you've passed the parking toll booths....
when we were there, a sheriff's car was sitting there almost all the time, and i saw 3 cars stopped (and i assumed ticketed) right before the turn to the WL...
the speed limit there is 35 MPH i think, and lots of people hot foot it up to 50....

Disholic - yep, it's 35 there. Then all the "highway" parts of property are 50. Such odd numbers for such a wide roadway during the day, and it makes it VERY easy to cruise - but it does make sence at night - as it gets busy with so many people leaving at the same time.

Get a ticket in New York! Our fees are ridiculous, AND there's no plea bargaining any more! If you get a ticket, you're pretty much guaranteed the points on your license and a hefty fine. 1-10 mph over the limit can get you up to a $150 fine! Between 10 and 15 mph over the limit can get you up to a $300 fine, and up to 15 days of jail time.

Yeesh.

I think I've seen signs that notify motorists that a lower speed limit is in effect when a set of lights next to the sign is flashing. Maybe a 55 limit with that sign for park exits would work?

Cause 50 to me is too slow during the day, and a little too quick during the night. It's too hard to read those signs, watch traffic, AND get into the right (correct) lane!

LOL! I had the same reaction. Here in what-I-usually-think-of-as-affordable-Colorado, my last speeding ticket was $212! For about 10 mph over.

Another reason to be careful driving on those roads: All the buses carrying people who are not seat-belted, or not even sitting down. On our bus from the Poly to AK one morning, some idiot pulled out right in front of the bus. The driver had to slam on the brakes to avoid crashing into him. Luckily, everyone that was standing on the bus was holding on tightly, because even doing so, several of us nearly fell over. Even a near miss like that could really hurt someone standing up and caught off guard on a bus.

Seems like every time I drive from Celebration over to the MK these days there is at least one Orange County Sheriff running radar on the WDW roadways - this would be World Drive in particular. Unfortunately for the CM's I think they nab a lot of them who are running late on their way to work.

A good radar detector is a wise investment in WDW nowadays
