Somehow, this discussion turned from a focus on speed traps intentionally designed to prey on out-of-state tourists to a moral gospel on DUI. The latter is a distraction from the real issue, a blatant abuse of law enforcement that has always annoyed me.
The worst kind of speed trap is the one that is set up to deliberately entrap motorists and extort money for the benefit of police agencies or local governments. These speed traps employ absurdly low speed limits, intense enforcement, deliberately confusing signage (or no signage), and dishonest and or abusive local courts.
Hmmm.....sounds a lot like Orange county to me.
Whatever, there are fortunately resources designed to beat the Florida bureaucrats at their own game:

Tradeport Drive is a continuation of Conway Road, just South of the Bee Line Expressway. Trap is usually set at mid-morning or mid-afternoon, manned by 3-5 motorcycle officers. Speed limit is 45 MPH, but due to limited access to Tradeport Drive, 55-65 mph is the general speed driven in this area. Officers are always just around a bend in the road, preventing seeing them until too late to avoid the radar getting you at flank speed.

The area on the Bee-Line expressway between Route 417 to John Young Parkway is a set up, specifically near the airport. The speed limit heading west is 70, then drops to 60, then back up again to 65, then down to 55. Unless you're staring at the signs instead of the raod, you won't see the frequent changes in the posted speed limit.

Despite the posted 55 mph limit, traffic moves at 65-70. Indeed, the limit changes to 65 at the Sea World curve. Easy pickins' for FHP, especially the tourist traffic. Gotta pity getting an extra souvenier while in Orlando.

The state patrol is set up on the exit ramp from the Turnpike to SR 528/Orange Blossom Trail. The speed limit sign is obstructed by a construction sign and is listed as 25 mph. There are 3 - 5 squad cars just around the bend in the ramp, and they clock at that point. Even under the best circumstances it is difficult to go from 70 to 25 in the given space without risking a collision; with the obstructed sign it is virtually impossible.
