Points question

So we just had a fabulous stay at Kidani Village and noticed something about our points.

We had to add a day at the front of our trip so we booked a studio at SSR and wait listed a studio at Kidani. We borrowed the 17 points for the SSR studio. Well the Kidani studio came through.

We come home and look at our account to see how many points we have for next years trip and we see that our current use year has 3 points in it and we are way past our banking window.

It seems that the studio at Kidani was only 14 points we borrowed 17 so, it left 3 points.

Is there anything we can do about this?

There was someone looking for points just yesterday. Maybe you can transfer them to a member in need.

It sounds like they properly used the borrowed points in the SSR reservation by adding all of them to the Kidani reservation and thus leaving you with left over current use year points rather than 3 borrowed points.If that waitlist came through before the end of the eighth month of your use year, you could have banked them. If it came through after the eightth month, those points have to be used by end of use year. It sounds like that is what occurred. You could call MS and explain you did not realize that would occur and ask if they can possibly bank those points -- in years past MS used to give once in a leftime banking breaks to members who misunderstood what they were doing and missed banking points, but I do not know if they still do that. Outside of that you would need to look for someone to take them via transfer (and eeyoresmom is not likely the one since she is looking for points usable next October and yours will undoubtedly expire before then).

If the 3 stranded points were borrowed they can be banked into the next Use Year (if MS will still allow you to do that), but they cannot be transferred to another member since borrowed (and/or banked) points may not be transferred.

If they were borrowed they can't be banked. Borrowing is a final transaction. And as you mentioned they couldn't be transferred either if they are borrowed.

I know that if I've called in to set up a waitlist I've had the CM point out if the room is less points and what might happen because of that if they waitlist fills. As Drusba mentioned they might give an exception and bank but it also might be the only time they would ever do that so if you forgot to bank a large amount in the future you might not get the same exception again.

You are right. I was thinking of transferred points instead of borrowed points. As you stated, borrowed points cannot be banked into the next Use Year.
