Hi Scott!

Just to clarify (I think) ... DVC is not exclusive to Disney Cruise Line. DVC is a Real Estate owned portion of various Disney resorts. Of course, there are other perks, which allow you to use your DVC membership, either on DCL, or non Disney accommodations. We've used our DVC membership for DCL, but have also used it for resort stays in California and New York ... and plan to travel to Germany via DVC as well.

You are correct - we looked into DVC. We prefer cruising to land based vacations generally. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy Disney greatly. But we so much enjoy sailing other cruise lines and non Disney locations, that if we spent our vacation budget on DVC, then we'd miss out on being able to cruise other lines or visit independently. I know you can use DVC points on other locations, but it's at a premium that we found would be cheaper by working magic on good deals! So, in the end, we did not view it as all that great a value for us and choose to work the system and put our money that would go to points and maintenance fees into savings and then withdraw when we find the right deals!

Oh, I misunderstood what you said previously. Then again, we purchased back in 1994 ... when DVC purchase prices were about 40% of what they are now. Currently, DVC association fees are a small portion of our annual vacation expense ... and a portion is written off (Real Estate taxes), so the impact is negligible.

We've sailed several other cruise lines ... we've not had much luck in finding an alternative to DCL.

When we seek non Disney land based travel, we've used DVC to obtain nicer accommodations, as compared to what we would normally seek, so I guess the teeter.totter goes both ways (less expensive on your own, or upgrade with a vacation club).

Good Morning Cruisers !!! Well, my back isn't any better after 2 weeks, so I'm going back to the doctor today. This time, I get to see "my" doctor....last time I went, I was told she retired, when in fact, she moved her practice to another office....I found her yesterday and switched the insurance over so I can see her. Maybe this time, something will be done for my injury and I can heal and get back to normal.

There are many places in the world to visit besides Disney theme parks, and you've chosen some excellent ones! I haven't been to Montreal since 1972, and I would love to return to Quebec City and Saint John. I hope you'll have a wonderful trip!

Don't feel bad, I don't have any planned either until the cruise...although I am toying with the idea of taking my DGD down during Spring Break next year, but staying off property at my sisters time share...have to wait and see if we can work it all out.
