Returned today. Pleasure Island, a usual 3 night stop for me and DH, is no longer on our agenda. We went Friday eve to see the place over run by KIDS!! I mean, 13 - 19 year olds paying adults to buy them drinks. It looked like gangs (I am from Chicago and know what they look like!) hanging out near all the clubs. I am so dissappointed with the new OPEN policy with no admission. Yeah, the clubs are still okay but part of the appeal was walking around outside with our drinks and enjoying the club to club atmosphere. Too many babies in strollers (at 11pm!!), little kids and TEENS!!! I went there to get away from them!!! Lost our business. Anyone know if this policy will change back?

I agree. It has gotten really bad and they do not seem to want to change it. I personally liked it when it was included with your package, and it was a closed area to those who were going to the Island. I too encountered last year people with "BABY BABY BABIES" We are talking 2 - 6 weeks old and they had them out at the PI and the adults were drinking and .. I do not have kids yet but this made me sick.

Pleasure Island really need to make a change and FAST Before it is over run with (sorry I have to say it) "GARBAGE!!"

Since I saw this change in policy, this is exactly what I feared. Sorry to hear it seems to be reality.
Please change PI back to the night time venue we adults (without kids and TEENS) could enjoy!

ITA - sadly so.

I used to love PI, as it was a place that had many different clubs meant for adults, yet was 'safe' to someone like me who never really does clubs. When we last bought an AP, we had to get premium because we always made multiple trips to PI. However, since the new open policy, we just don't enjoy the crowds of teens begging for drinks.

This is terrible! You would think Disney of all places would do everything in their power to prevent something like this! I didn't get a chance to make it to PI last trip but from what I hear maybe thats not such a bad thing. Perhaps some security needs to be set up to prevent the teens from asking for drinks. That is clearly illegal last time I checked. Disney could be held liable.

i had the same expreance with pi, me and (my girl who has not been there in three years) could not beleave all the kids that were around. we walked around so i could see the place jumped in the car and went to jelly rolls and i like that a hole lot better. then drinking in front of kids. my girlfriend was pissed off they gave here a question ear to feel out on the way out. im pretty sure she passed on the anger.

I haven't been to Pleasure Island in many years, mostly because I never really enjoyed it. I just don't go to Disney to do loud clubs, you can do that anywhere. Honestly I think the last time I was there probably was like...1985? and at that time in my life I enjoyed going to loud clubs! just not at Walt Disney World.

I'd be thrilled if they "repurposed" that area altogether and came up with an entirely new concept.

I wish PI were adults only - the whole darn island. I know some people like to bring their kids to the comedy club or Adventurers Club - but I like places that are for adults

I think PI is a much needed adult specific area and needs to stay that way. With the new open policy there have been more kids there and I think that's unfortunate for the kids and the adults.

I am very surprised at the minors getting drinks from people with wristbands! The bartenders are very good at checking IDs and wristbands, and they won't serve more than one drink to a person. Just let a kid try that with me - I'll turn them in SO fast their head will spin.

::MickeyMo Pleasure Island was supposed to be a place for those 18 and older to get away! I should not have been dodging strollers, balloons, kids, etc. I know part of the reason people were complaining was because they had to walk around it and the pathway was dark. That's bull. I walked around to get from the Marketplace to the West Side and it was absolutely fine. This policy needs to change back to it's original ways. It's defeating the purpose of the whole concept. ::MinnieMo

I did not know this change had happened. My last several trips have been to Universal only. And I am really surprised to hear of all the problems. I was in UO's Citywalk this year on Fat Tuesday. Although there were a few younger kids around with parents and stuff, and a few teens hanging around in small groups, I didn't see anything like what has been described at PI. It is really a shame that Disney has allowed this to get out of control.
I also guess this has ruined the "adult" atmosphere at The Adventurer's Club. That was one of the only reasons I ever went to PI. If they are now allowing kids and such in, I have no interest at all.
Guess you can find me in January back in Citywalk.

We have not been to PI in a number of years (the last time it was still not open for everyone to walk around) as we have found the joy of Jellyrolls, but even the last time we were there we could not believe the people with young children/kids in strollers at PI at 11:00 - 12:00 at night.

If you really want to go there as an adult, hire in room baby sitting or take your kids to one of the Disney Kids clubs (or whatever they're called).

We're as liberal as the next people, but it even made us uncomfortable having the kids around us the last evening we were at PI.

Wonder what punishment is in line for the adults providing alcohol to minors? Thinking the police taking away people in handcuffs from PI might cause a policy change.

If caught, they make you ride It's a Small World all day, non-stop, with no bathroom break.

::MickeyMo Does anyone else find it a pain to have to wait in a line at each individual club to hand in your ticket or get ID'd for the first time? It's a big pain to me! It was so much easier handing them the ticket and then having the run of the island. Changes need to be made or I think a lot of people will boycott it. ::MinnieMo

I think most people saw this coming. When DSIS and I were at PI in 12/03 the new policy wasn't in effect but it was still pretty bad. Under age drinkers and we had a girl next to us lifting her shirt and flashing the guys on stage. One young man lucky to be 17 fell on DSIS and spilt beer all over her and yes security was walking around and totally ignoring all of this. I received a questionier via e-mail and boy did they get a ear full from me. Can't imagine what this december will be like. Susan

Well this is another unfortunate example of Disney corp. doing what needs to be done to maximize revenue. They are no doubt making a tidy profit off drinks and are able to sell more booze since they've made it possible for anyone to drag their poor exhausted kids over there instead of paying for a babysitter.
Sorry to be so cynical but I hate this happening at WDW. It's as depressing as seeing people drag their kids around Las Vegas. Walt Disney must be turning in his grave. :sad2:

Well, looks like I'm scratching PI of my agenda. Sad too, because I used to enjoy that place...that's okay - there's always Jellyrolls!!!!

Sorry to hear that PI has gone that far downhill. DW and I used to love leaving the kid in the room and being able to escape for a night of adult fun, looks like we are heading over to jellyrolls from now on. Come on Disney get with the game and remember that underage drinking is illegal.
