Pleasure Island is now Not so Pleasurable

I personally think it's ridiculous that you have to pay (1 plus option) per club. I hate clubbing, but I enjoy at least seeing a little bit of each club to check out the feel and possibly getting a drink there. Now you're telling me I'm going to have to pay every time I want to go into a separate club? That's insane!! Bring back the Old PI!!! I'm writing a letter as we speak.

no no no no!!!

you're not charged your "plus" until you go into the first club...then you are free to club hop.

however - I don't know how they 'monitor' this...if it's a wristband or a mark on your ticket or what...as I said...DH and I aren't big on the clubs. We'd hit the comedy club and leave.

ETA-
you still have to wait in line at each club to show your ticket/wristband/whatever to get in. not like when you paid your admission at the gate to PI...and you could just walk right into any club with no wait.

I wonder if most of the problems would be solved if entrance to the island was still "free", but there was an age policy: 18+ or with parent/guardian. This policy is easily enforceable, and would eliminate (well, cut down---there are always irresponsible parents) the roving bands of unsupervised teens looking for booze.

Completely agree

I am very surprised at the minors getting drinks from people with wristbands! The bartenders are very good at checking IDs and wristbands, and they won't serve more than one drink to a person. Just let a kid try that with me - I'll turn them in SO fast their head will spin.

You don't have to have a wristband to be 21. Having a wristband just means that you can get into the clubs AND that you are 21. If you elect not to go into the clubs, you can still carry a drink without a wristband, as long as you are 21.

Definately, Please turn them in to anyone at the door of the club, security, the bar tenders, or Orange County Police. If they are just asking for drinks, someone can keep an eye on them, and get them out of there.

Wonder what punishment is in line for the adults providing alcohol to minors? Thinking the police taking away people in handcuffs from PI might cause a policy change.

In FL, I beleive it is a misdemeanor to consume under 21. Serving under 21 alcohol carries at least a 1,000 fine, possible jail time. I don't remember the specifics....

::MickeyMo Does anyone else find it a pain to have to wait in a line at each individual club to hand in your ticket or get ID'd for the first time? It's a big pain to me! It was so much easier handing them the ticket and then having the run of the island. Changes need to be made or I think a lot of people will boycott it. ::MinnieMo

You wait the same amount of time now with Pleasure Island being "UNGATED" than you did with it being "GATED." - You either wait with everyone outsid of PI to get into the island, be scanned and ID'ed, or you wait in line at the first club you go to while they scan, ID and wristbanded. The wait time shouldn't be any different unless you go to a club that is close to, or at capacity.

I did not see any security walking around. I did however see them outside each club.

Each club has security, and then security does walk around the streets, along with Orange County Police. That doesn't mean they are always wearing security shirts. :)

I was told that in order to get into the clubs, you'd need to pay or use one of your Plus options on your ticket...and it's one Plus option per club.

One plus option, for all 7 clubs. Either a Park Hopper Plus, or the Magic Plus pack plus options will get you into all 7 for the one option. Once you use the option, you are set for the rest of the night. Even if your ticket is re-scanned, it is considered to be "re-entry."

Oh I see...Okay, I misunderstood - but still, I remember waiting until I was 18 so I could visit Pleasure Island, then waiting till I was 21 so I could visit all the clubs - I think the little ones of this generation should do the same ;) I wouldn't bring MY kids to a place called Pleasure Island...so why even make it available for 18 and under?

Does anybody have an email address to write to? I'll send one off if I know where to send it.

Yes, I just double-checked this a couple of places. Glad to see that I was wrong and that it's one plus for all clubs. Not sure we'll take advantage of it since we're not big clubbers, but it might be something to do different from our norm. And since we'll be there in January and depending on the weather, may not be able to use them at Blizzard Beach, we might just decide to hit PI a few times...although I'm still not happy about the kids being unattended.

I would guess that PI is getting so much foot traffic w/ all ages walking through to go from MarketPlace to the Westside....??..

I did not know this change had happened. My last several trips have been to Universal only. And I am really surprised to hear of all the problems. I was in UO's Citywalk this year on Fat Tuesday. Although there were a few younger kids around with parents and stuff, and a few teens hanging around in small groups, I didn't see anything like what has been described at PI. It is really a shame that Disney has allowed this to get out of control.
I also guess this has ruined the "adult" atmosphere at The Adventurer's Club. That was one of the only reasons I ever went to PI. If they are now allowing kids and such in, I have no interest at all.
Guess you can find me in January back in Citywalk.

Universal Studios has it controlled much better. I did enjoy their area the last time I went to Florida!

Yes I agree it's horrible. My husband and I never went until our children were old enough and we were shocked at how many children are there. The last time we went there were babies in stollers, young children and teens. It is not the place for them. PI is an adult place, the clubs are for adults and the areas outside the clubs are for adults. It is not a place where parents should be taking thier underage children. I hope Disney does the right thing and makes it a really adult only place.

Returned today. Pleasure Island, a usual 3 night stop for me and DH, is no longer on our agenda. We went Friday eve to see the place over run by KIDS!! I mean, 13 - 19 year olds paying adults to buy them drinks. It looked like gangs (I am from Chicago and know what they look like!) hanging out near all the clubs. I am so dissappointed with the new OPEN policy with no admission. Yeah, the clubs are still okay but part of the appeal was walking around outside with our drinks and enjoying the club to club atmosphere. Too many babies in strollers (at 11pm!!), little kids and TEENS!!! I went there to get away from them!!! Lost our business. Anyone know if this policy will change back?

I think many will agree with you, and stay away. Your best bet is to let the powers that be know what you think and the consequences of you not frequenting PI on your vacations in the future. Money talks! Contact Disney at wdw.guest.communications@disney.com. The more guests who have this concern and write the more likely things may be turned around in the future. Look what it did for Garden Grill when they changed their menu. Within a few months, it was back closer to the original menu! It is worth the time to write!

I just tried that e-mail address and it came back saying "No Such Address".
Now what?? :confused3

We're looking for an EMAIL address. But thanks for the snail mail address too. We may need that if we can't find an email which works.

Just chiming in my 2 cents. Dh and I went to PI twice Sept 19 and 22 of this year. While we did see some younger kids pretty late at night we did not particularily see any underage drinking, and frankly I wouldn't have let that ruin our time. I don't like the idea of it happening, but it happens everywhere. While I agree Disney could do something to moderate the crowd there, I don't think people that have not gone to PI should be scared away by this thread. It is really all about what you choose to let bother you. We stayed in the AC for pretty much the whole night both times we went and were not bothered by kids, teens, gangs or anything else while we where there. I think AC and the Comedy Club are about the only thing PI has going for it (personally) and I don't think either on of those places would appeal to the 'underagers' - in fact they would probably consider than 'lame' (boy, I'm gettin' old - sniff).

Anyway, as I mentioned, there is room for improvement, but don't just not visit PI based on one incident - I think it is better to go and judge for yourself. I would go to the AC again in a heartbeat - Kungaloosh!

Selling/giving alcohol to a minor in the state of Florida is a second degree misdemeanor {Statute 562.11} and the adult can be arrested and jailed for 60 days. {775.082} Maybe some of the Orange county deputies on property should move out to PI in the evening. Or is Disney not allowing that?........... :drinking1

On my last trip there were several levels of security.

If you got a drink from a street vendor, you were carded and given a wristband, A fairly plain one. That allowed you to carry a drink and buy them from the vendors.

When you went into a club, you got a hand stamp for being over 21, and a different wrist band for club entry.

This is how it was May/June 05. It seemed like a good way of identifying people and what/where they could go. Did they change it since then? We'll still go to PI on this trip and I'll let you know what I see when I get back.

Was at AC about 2 weeks ago and although I saw babies and teens...neither were in AC.

::MickeyMo It is not the same wait time when it was just gated at the main entrances to all of PI. You never had to wait to get into the Adventurer's Club. Now you do. You were always able to walk right into the Beach Club and what not. Now you have to wait in line at each individual venue. The only one you really have to wait for is the Comedy Warehouse, and that's how it's always been because it was first come first serve. There is a big difference now! ::MinnieMo
