Pleasure Island is now Not so Pleasurable

It would be nice if Disney would build a nice path connecting Marketplace and West Side that would make it conveneint to go between the two, and give a view of PI, but not actually be walking right through, if that makes sense. I know that it's kind of a pain to have to walk around it, and some people just want to walk through to see what it looks like, so it would be nice if there was some kind of compromise.

My kingdom for a mini-monorail that just ran between the 3 parts of DD!

this is all really dissapointing to hear. there is a possibility a friend and i will be making a trip to WDW in january, and we'd both be 19 and wanted to experience PI since we never have before. We wanted to go to be in a more adult setting, not to dodge little kids as if we were in magic kingdom! it's a shame to hear all of this, we might have to rethink it, or plan to spend less time there than we originally intended.

::MickeyMo I still think it's something you should experience, *ahem* The Adventurer's Club *ahem*, but if you're looking to dodge kids (like we were), not so much anymore. It's sad having to dodge a stroller while carrying a martini. It just doesn't go together. ::MinnieMo

Selling/giving alcohol to a minor in the state of Florida is a second degree misdemeanor {Statute 562.11} and the adult can be arrested and jailed for 60 days. {775.082} Maybe some of the Orange county deputies on property should move out to PI in the evening. Or is Disney not allowing that?........... :drinking1

Actually, Orange County does patrol Pleasure Island nightly, several of them.

::MickeyMo It is not the same wait time when it was just gated at the main entrances to all of PI. You never had to wait to get into the Adventurer's Club. Now you do. You were always able to walk right into the Beach Club and what not. Now you have to wait in line at each individual venue. The only one you really have to wait for is the Comedy Warehouse, and that's how it's always been because it was first come first serve. There is a big difference now! ::MinnieMo

At AC, once you have your stamps/wristbands, you can enter through either the rotating door, or the side door. Sometimes the side door gets a line of first time entries, but you can bypass that and go through the rotating door.

At RRBC, they usually take entries on both sides of the tape, first time entries on the right, re-entry and exit on the left. That is unless it gets busy inside.

I actually feared to read this thread because in the past so many indignant parents chime in (my kid has the right, blah, blah, or I didn't come to Disney to leave my kid with strangers, blah, blah or in Britain children are in the pubs, blah, blah, blah) but not this time (or yet)!

Haven't we all seen Pinocchio and know what Pleasure Island is? Does not almost all if not all advertising for PI by Disney mention the "adult side of Disney"?

Rant over about the past comments of other threads- big sigh...Wow, that felt good! Apparently this has really bothered me for a long time.

Totally agree with the thread and the way things are going- Disney is losing money on DH and I with the way things are now. To think one of the reasons we bought SSR was the proximity to PI, dang!

Boy.....this is disappointing.

We went there in 1989 and had the BEST TIME! I loved the atmosphere, and it never felt crazy at all. Everything was really tastefully done, and the only noise (fun noise) was in the clubs.

Returned today. Pleasure Island, a usual 3 night stop for me and DH, is no longer on our agenda. We went Friday eve to see the place over run by KIDS!! I mean, 13 - 19 year olds paying adults to buy them drinks. It looked like gangs (I am from Chicago and know what they look like!) hanging out near all the clubs. I am so dissappointed with the new OPEN policy with no admission. Yeah, the clubs are still okay but part of the appeal was walking around outside with our drinks and enjoying the club to club atmosphere. Too many babies in strollers (at 11pm!!), little kids and TEENS!!! I went there to get away from them!!! Lost our business. Anyone know if this policy will change back?

I'm so surprised to hear this-at WDW! I went to Epcot a few months ago with DS, who'd just turned 23 (and looks older). He did the wine tasting samples at several countries, and yet he was always carded, making me think Disney had a pretty good concern to avoid underage drinking. Chances are a kid under 21 isn't going to just buy a small glass of wine, and with his Mom around, who knows his real age. So I would think Disney would change this policy back quickly once they see what's going on.

I'm 25 and I've been carded at every restaurant, park and bar in WDW, including all the PI clubs. I think Disney's pretty strict with that portion of it. However, I think that there is a lot of the "I'll go inside and get a drink and then take it outside." which is how some underagers might be getting drinks, which is risky. And the ever growing amount of little kids aren't drinking, (at least I hope not, but truly you never know with the way some people are!) just sort of being dragged along by their parents who want to get out. If people don't have good enough judgment to not take their kids to places like this, I truly think the powers that be have to do it for them. Exactly as the previous poster said, there is something extremely wrong with dodging a stroller when you're in a bar holding a martini- there are some places children simply do not belong- for their own good as well as the enjoyment of the adults that are the paying customers.
