Please help us decide which resort to call home.

Okay, if I understood you correctly, this is how I believed it would work. One cannot combine points from multiple contracts/resorts, whether under one membership number or many, and make a ressie 11 mths out. This can only be done at 7 months. Am I still understanding this correctly?
One cannot combine points from separate resorts at 11 months. Using a transfer or separate reservations under different membership numbers, points from the same resort can be combined at 11 months.

SO, then why would someone WANT to have multiple contracts or why would someone suggest splitting your purchase into two contracts/resorts as was suggested earlier? I thought the whole purpose of the OP was buying at the resort you need/want to book at 11 months out?
There are several reasons why you might want several contracts at different resorts. Primarily, it's so you can stay at all of your favorites when you want to. We have four home resorts (five, actually, until our resale goes through) because we like to stay at all of them, and want home resort advantage for our stays. However, we don't intend to stay at every resort every year. Thus, we have 135 at AKV (enough for a 2bd Savannah View villa every other year) and 180 at BLT (enough for a 2bd MK view villa every other year) and intend to use them alternating Januaries. Our BCV points get used every year for a week in Dec, and our SSR points are for treehouses, trades, and miscellaneous last minute excursions. We get to stay at all of our favorite resorts some of the time, which makes us happy.

The other reason for multiple contracts is so that you can sell them/will them/etc. A single large contract can become unwieldy, because it cannot be broken up for any reason -- not resale, not heirs, not anything. We've discovered over 15 years of ownership that OKW is no longer our preference, so we're selling it and buying other things. If all of our points had been in the OKW basket, that would be much more difficult.

The point I'm at is this -- I don't want to go every year, but every 3 would be good for the next 15 years, then I'd probably use my points at GCV every year after kids are grown for shorter Sun-Thurs trips (we're closer to DLR). So I thought I'd buy about 60-70 points that would get me a full week somewhere every 3 years. But I can't decide where to have my home resort either (and haven't visited any). I forsee staying at a different one each time (unless I just fall in love with the first). I think that 11 month window is very crutial to our planning (we go in early Dec every year). So I thought if I could buy smaller 25 contracts at 3 resorts -- and there was a way to combine them to work at 11 mths, that'd be ideal. :rolleyes1

But I guess there's no possible way to do that?

If you're planning to go every three years, you are definitely not a candidate for having split contracts over multiple resorts, but it does work very well for some of us. It may be worth your time to rent at what you suspect might end up being your favorite, and then buy there if you like it. Also, remember that wherever your home resort ends up being, you can book there at 11 months and then change the reservation (or waitlist to do so) at 7 months.

Thanks Deb & Bill & Kmango! I think I'm narrowing this down... One last clarification:

When you divide your contract up into multiple contracts, it is still under a single master contract number with different suffixes. It is easier to sell smaller contracts than larger ones.

Contracts with the same UY can be the same master contract, but considered add-ons to the original master contract.

I have an original contract of 175 points at OKW for Sept UY. Plus I had three add-ons with Sept UY (OKW 75 points, BCV 100 points and VWL 100 points). I also have one resale contract Dec UY of 50 OKW points.

Can you use both of your Sept UY OKW points at 11 mths out on the same day without transferring (since they're under the same master contract?)? Just want to be clear that if I end up buying a resale 50 pt contract and 25 pt contract -- both with the same UY and home resort (and making sure they're linked as such), that I don't have to mess with transferring when I go to do the banking/borrowing thing every 3 years. I see a lot more of those smaller contracts on the resale market than I do a 60, 70, or 75 pt contract, hence why I ask.
Thanks!

Yes, I can use both the Sept 75 point and Sept 175 point to make a single reservation because they are the same master contract.

And, yes, I can use both my Sept OKW and my Dec OKW at 11 months out for the same trip. BUT, I can only reserve full nights with either one and get the two reservations linked. I can't combine points from the two contracts for a single night without transferring the points to the other contract. So if one night is 24 points and I have 10 in one contract and 14 in the other, I can't combine them for a single night. I'd have to use my once a year transfer to transfer 10 points to the other contract to get 24 points.

Now I am really confused. If I but two re-sale contracts for the same resort with the same use year, will I definitely get the same master contract number. I am planning to buy points for one resort with one UY to keep things simple. So I don't want to have to worry about having to cover certain days with one contract and other days with the other.

You have all been really helpfull! Thanks again.

If you buy multiple contracts that are titled the same, (same exact names), with the same UY, your first contract will be numbered 1234567.000 and the next, 1234567.001.

000 is BCV and 001 is SSR. You can used 000 to book BCV at 11 months, 001 to book SSR at 11 months or both at any resort at 7 months, subject to availability.

If 000 is BCV and 001 is BCV you can combine the points and use them at 11 months for BCV or 7 months at any resort.

Unless you purchase both resales from the same member who bought them originally from Disney, you will have to request that they have the same master contract number. It won't happen automatically. Ask the reseller you are purchasing from how to do this.
