Please help me fix my RV

for $30 you can buy a ceramic heater at target. If you were closer, I'd give you mine. works better than the gas one in the popup. we used ours in the trailer and mh and it was better and ran on the free electricity you get when you pay $100/night at disney for a cement pad.

Donnie is paying for my site and my space heater, if needed, can be obtained from the broken down RV:rotfl2:

He is using the proceeds from the Jesus 12 pack.

we threw more parts at it today...one worked one didnt...

I had to break down and call Monaco:scared1:

They found the "old wise one" that knows about the old coaches (which apparently was not around the first time) and we have another part to throw at it tomorrow...sigh sigh sigh

I got a call from Donnie this morning telling me his woes about sleeping in his popup in 24 degree weather. I might be joining him, as my popup has NO HEAT. All the money I had to restore my old bessie popup is going to old bessie RV. I had better get selling on the ebay and quick.

Thursday is coming much too quickly for my comfort zone. (plus the rv smells of engine grease because the bed has been lifted for close to two weeks now...fun fun fun)

Just a quick thought about wiring. Your guys have probably already checked this out, but, just to make sure, you should make absolutely sure that the wiring is the proper size as the original. And, the continuity should be checked thoroughly to make sure that the resistance (Ohms) checks out for zero ohms. Usually when something funny has happened in the wiring, such as ignition fires, etc., there is the outside chance that other wiring could have been affected. Therefore, it should be checked completely. Those battery isolators work well, when they work, but they can cause multiple problems when they don't.

Sounds as if you are on track to getting it solved.

Yes, one of the reasons the RV has been in the shop for a month is that very reason. Every inch of the wiring has been checked because of the way the alternator burned out. The way it was explained to me is this: it is much like a lightning strike, you don't necessarily find the answer to all the problems right away because the electricity goes on all sorts of directions and burns out so many things. Since the whole positive pole of the alternator was burned completely off, there was suspicion of something like this happening and low and behold, we found the original culprit in the back of the coach, hence the reason for finding all the parts to match the "no longer made" parts. Much of the wiring in the runs to the alternator has been replaced and some has been replaced in areas in which we would have never thought would have been affected. We are taking our time and crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's with this one. I have a jewel on my hands as far as a coach that is in really good shape for its age. I have had more than one person that has inspected and worked on the coach tell me this. It is worth me freezing my tooshie off in an old beat up popup for New Years to make this repair the right one. Please let this be a lesson to all y'all. If you have an electrical problem similar to this, never, ever, take it lightly and do your homework and treat it as a worst case scenario. You never know when an electrical fire will happen in a coach or RV. Why take this chance with your family? I certainly will not. It is worth every day and every penny for my family's safety.

Donnie is paying? what's that mean? please use small words on me, I'm a simpleton.

You tell tales. I heard Donnie is pitching a fit, he's spent the last of the money he made in the 70's now has to move on to the 80's.

Funny I just saw him and it was 2010.

Is Donnie now staying at POP Century instead of the Fort? Do they let him stay in the parking lot, or do they make him park the campers in the overflow?

Great post. Many other campers can learn from this problem and solution. Looking forward to an update about the trip to the Fort.

Hey Jen, I was behind you in the bus at the Fort as you were leaving yesterday. Followed you all the way down Bonnet Creek.

No, you almost had it right, Donnie stayed in the pop up!:rotfl2:

We didn't come a knockin'....however, we had the video ready!:rotfl2:

I wish that was me. I was at work.:headache:

The boys stayed an extra day. I wished they would have known. Y'all could have traded air horn honks!

Our trip in the RV was mechanically uneventful. We had a fitting on the hot water line spring a leak, but it was very minor. Everything was running smoothly. My jeep's thermostat got stuck half open and started running hot on the way up to Orlando and VACAMPER's hubby helped us out and put a new thermostat in. The funny thing was that I asked DH to call and ask how much a new thermostat was and he says "$549". I yelled in disbelief, "WHAT?" Come to find out, DH has been around RV parts too long and put the decimal point in the wrong place and we got a big laugh at his expense. We also learned that we burned the positive pole off one of the batteries on the golf cart during the fiasco with trying to charge the batteries to get the RV off the right side of the road. We burned a wire off too. This caused the golf cart to work, but not charge, so we ended up pushing the cart onto the trailer. So, not as eventful as last time, but, this is my family....nothing goes as planned.
