We already own at WL, my daughter and her friends are interested in booking in Disneyland for the Olympics.Do I need enough points at that resort to cover the stay or can resort points be combined?

You need enough home resort points at whichever resort you are wanting to book at 11 months. You cannot use any CCV/BRV points at 11 months for VGC or VDH, only a 7 months.

For that time of year the 1BR at VDH is 306pts per week, and VGC is 388pts per week.

The 2028 point charts are not out yet, so there may be some adjustment, but I would not expect a huge change (if any).

I mentioned 1BR points because studios will likely be booked up by 7 months out. 1BR has a better chance.

If they have some flexibility in their booking dates, that should improve their odds of finding a reservation.

Isn't VDH different in terms of what rooms book first? There are so many studios and so few 1 BRs that I thought it was flip flopped from other DVC resorts -- 1 BRs run out of inventory first, then onto studios. I know that is how it was when it first opened. Wasn't sure if more inventory had been delcared or not.

This is not true for VDH. VDH is very studio heavy and there will be studios available at 7 months, but 1 bedrooms or larger will be very hard to get.

Also, not 100% about using Disneyland as the base during the Olympics. It will be a good drive (probably at least 45 minutes in good conditions) to any events and public transportation will be even rougher. I would have them seriously look at what events they are interested in and if there are better options for places to stay. I am local (in the OC) and have tickets with a friend and her family to see a swimming event and I am already dreading the thought of driving up there! Also tickets are really expensive and selling out in the local presales. More should be released but I expect them to be really expensive too.

I thought maybe in this unusual time the price competition is going to impact the lower point units?

Owners may snatch these up at 7 months and 1 second to sell off?

Are your points direct points that can be used at VDH? If they are resale then you can't use those points at the Villas at Disneyland Hotel. Resale points can be used at Grand Cal, however that resort is near impossible to get into even when there isn't a big event like the Olympics. And as others stated, your points for Boulder Ridge or Copper Creek (wasn't clear on where you own) couldn't be used until 7 months out.

Just to clarify, resale bought after Jan 2019 can’t be used at VDH.

Piggybacking on this thread, Sandi, do you think they would (or could) do an adjustment in point charts for 2028?
We sort of have same idea as OP, and looking at Volleyball to be in the area. But it would be a way for DH to check Olympics off his bucket list.

They can adjust points charts whenever they're preparing them for a given year and are required to make changes to "smooth out" demand. They have a restriction in that they can't increase a given night more than 20% from one year to the next.

Whether they'll make changes to the VDH and VGC charts related to the dates of the Olympics, in anticipation of demand for those dates being different from usual, remains to be seen. But knowing that the adjustments they're supposed to make would mean making dates that are in very high demand (e.g., dates during the Olympics) more expensive and lowering the points costs for dates that are less in demand would mean that it might be even harder, not easier, to have enough points to stay during the Olympics.

Be aware you could have an Olympics issue.. With a major event like that fairly close to Disney resorts, you face the likelihood that just about everything at the resorts could book fairly quickly after the 11-month window opens.

Though not the same type of issue, the Disney World DVC Resorts filled almost completely during the 11-month window for the weekend when the 50th year Disney World celebration began Oct 1, 2021.The Epcot and MK resorts filled almost completely within moments after 8 a.m. at 11-months out.

I would not expect DVC to create point charts based on a specific event…like the Olympics.

They have limits of no more than 20% per any given use day and I just can’t see them trying.

Been a member since the 90s, Since I became a member, DVC has never adjusted point charts just to cover some special event that does not occur every year.
