Please don't use flash on PotC

I don't know if security has ever been waiting for somebody taking flash pictures as they got off the ride but I wish they would. If more people had their pictures deleted/film removed and repeat offenders kicked out then less people would take flash photos. It wouldn't hurt if Disney put up more signs, maybe one at the entrance of the park saying no flash photography on attractions and also a warning on the park maps. The ride CMs should at least say something to the offenders.

Then that story will end up on the next "the CM was RUDE to me" thread. All I did was everything they asked me to not do. What right did they have to say something to me after all I spent on this vacation. I am going to turn them in and get them fired, that will show them. No one stops me from doing whatever I want. How RUDE!

:rolleyes1

To me it is logical that you don't use flash photography inside dark rides. Weather or not it was a rule it still ruins the experience for everybody else. There are always announcements anyway, just because you tune them out doesn't mean you are exempt from the rules.

Hey now! I don't tune out the rules!!! Trust me- we are big on rule following. I was just saying that even if WDW has no problem with the cameras, there are always others who will. For us, we have little ones to keep track of so taking pictures worthy of a Vogue photo shoot is just not possible anyway. Besides- we like to enjoy the ride!princess:

We were at DW last week. The flashes on POTC were driving my DH nuts. I do think they should delete the pictures. Maybe after that people would stop.

When someone was taking pictures when I was on Soarin someone came on the loud speaker and told them to stop or they would stop the ride and take the offenders off.

...and I would point them out and help them escort the offender! :thumbsup2

I love the "I did it for the children" defense.

Why'd you cut line in front of those 50 people? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you squeeze in front of those people who'd been waiting in place for Spectro for the last hour? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you sit in the middle of the theater and refuse to follow the CM's instructions to move to the end of the row? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you try to sneak into the LTT character meal to have pics taken with the characters when you didn't have ADR's? "I did it for my kids."

A one-size-fits-all excuse for the end justifying the means.

I think that is rude and inconsiderate!

Some people may only get to go to DisneyWorld/land once in their lives and you are saying that they cannot have memories! I think that is totally wrong and I guess I am to inconsiderate people as well because I want to remeber my trip .

What i fthey don't have a video camera. Not all people are that privilaged.

Wow.. great logic! :rotfl:

So since you may only get this one trip, you are entitled to use flashes in a dark ride that make it difficult for all the other people on the boat to see the attraction, and light up effects riders aren't meant to see. Because you know for sure all those other people get to go more than you so they won't mind. Plus, your needs, as we all know, totally outweigh the needs of all the other passengers.
:sad2:

Another thing about it that maddening is that as as semi-pro photographer I know the fact that in all likelihood, they are doing it for nothing worth keeping because one of two things will happen:

1) The flash on their point-n-shoot cameras isn't powerful enough to adequately light the scene since it has an effective distance of 10-15 feet. Then end result will be either dark and/or grainy high ISO images that look terrible.
-OR-
2) The flash is powerful enough to light the scene, but as a result totally destroys the theatrical lighting of the attraction and the photos look nothing like you remember from the ride. Instead, it looks like someone has flung open an outside door on a sunny day right behind you!

People need to do themselves a favor a spend a few dollars and buy the WDW park souvenir book with the quality photos inside that actually look like what you see on the attraction. If you want photos for the scrapbook, buy some postcards. Save you camera for photos of you and your family in the world outside

I couldn't agree more. Sit back and enjoy the ride and if you want some pics to remember it, buy a postcard.

I never had a problem on a ride with too many pictures being taken or even one picture causing me not to be able to see the ride. But I must ask, are you going to tell me that everyone on this thread that is complaining about taking picture have Never taken a pictue their self while on a ride, are you going to tell me that all the times you have been there that you never once took a picture on a ride?
I have at least one picture from each ride so my kids can recall their memories, they enjoy looking at the ride pics.
I don't over do it and I only take one during each ride.
I don't take pictures of screens or hologram images and I don't use my video light.
But I have taken a picture of Johnny Depp for my DD snd Pooh sticking out of the tree for my son and Dopey waving bye for my Mom.
If that is bothering someone I am sorry. I am capturing memories.

Get over yourselves....I was there in May and don't recall any postings or announcements that said you could not take pictures on POTC.

I must be one of the "annoying" ones who took pictures for my 3 year old to show to his friends and family when we got back home...

Sorry........but I did it for my children. Who cares if people take pictures in the dark?

When it is night time on main street, should I not take pictures of the castle because there is going to be a flash?

Wow, what great logic and justification, "for my children".

As another example:
Though not a ride, at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show at MGM, they make the same announcement as most of the rides, essentially "No Flash Photography". They even specifically mention that it is for the safety of the performers.
There are usually more than 100 children in there, being amazed by the puppet work and show effects, having a great time, amazed at how this all can be taking place.
Then, one inconsiderate ***** (I did the stars myself, insert your own appropriate word of choice here), attempts to take a flash photo. Their flash lights up the entire stage for a split second, revealing the black suited puppeteers behind the scenes, as well as the strings and attachments they are using. Now, that one person breaking the rules, and endangering the safety of the performers, possibly all on the premise of doing it "for my children", has effectively ruined this magical experience for an audience of over 300 people, largely kids.

I am astounded that you can justify disturbing or possibly ruining a ride or show "for my children", at the expense of the enjoyment of all of those other visitors. According to your thought process and statement, I guess they don't matter at all, and you and your children are the only ones that are important.

If you were there in May, and didn't notice any announcements, then you need to get over yourself! The announcement is made, but of course, since you are the most important person there (breaking the rules "for my children), then I am sure it didn't apply to you.

Is it me or is this thread becoming a boxing ring with a lot of pushing and shoving?

I haven't read the entire thread ... yet ... but when my mom, sis & I were trying to enjoy a wonderful lunch at the Blue Bayou, we couldn't, even though we had a wonderful table facing the water. (For those of you who have never been there, the POTC boats float through the bayou first thing, passing the restaurant along the way.) I was just amazed at the amount of people who took flash photos of a restaurant. Imagine how we felt after about 45 minutes of say 15 flashes a minute. We had flash "specks" in our eyes after we left.

It is so dark in there that nothing would've turned out, anyway.

So, if you ever to to the DL POTC - please keep your cameras in your bags!
Thank you!

It's not just picture taking, front of the park. The entire ride between the Frontierland stop to the Mickey's Toontown Fair stop, the whole train got to hear "SIR, PLEASE KEEP YOUR LEGS INSIDE THE TRAIN! SIR! SIR, YOUR CHILDREN TOO! WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL THAT GENTLEMAN TO KEEP HIS LEGS INSIDE THE TRAIN!" instead of the audio. I feel sorry for the people who had never ridden before. I just hope that that man didnt speak english.:sad2:

Some of you are getting upset with people that will probably never
be on PoTC the same time as you. There has been some useful info here, I suffer from Migraines, I cannot take direct light into my eyes. Once, at Fantasmic, I left so sick... now I cover my eyes through most of it. I also take a anti seizure medication to help prevent Migraines. When I told the Dr. about Fantasmic, he looked at me like, he didn't have a clue. The story about the Little Mermaid, the CM's make a loud annoucement! That is rude and self centered to take a picture, there. Now, to PoTC, I don't take pictures there, I have already stated this, but I honesty never heard it said to not, this must have been added recently, since Johnny Depp. The ride is so old. Walt, himself designed it. If the CM's need to get a microphone to make the announcement, then they need to. Disney had a complaint dept. Voice your complaint and see if they will work to fix it.

I AGREE !!!

We were in Disneyland last month and there was this lady taking pictures of every little thing on the ride. she did not care if it was bothering others around her. She got many dirty looks from others but it still did not stop her.
