Please don't use flash on PotC

I think I may start bringing my water gun.

Disney doesn't announce that I can't shoot water at other people's expensive camera equipment and I'm quite sure my kids would enjoy it.

Is that actually an apology, or is it sarcasm??? :confused3

I am not being sarcastic, I do not mean to bother anyone, I don't take picture all through the rides one here and there and never at stage shows. And as many times I have been to Disney I no longer need to take the pictuires but Everyone has done it once or twice.

...but Everyone has done it once or twice.
Wrong. Not everybody has done this. The majority of people probably haven't.

I've never taken flash photos inside of attractions, not only because of the rules about it but because I know it annoys others and ruins the experience for them.

To be honest I think that this board is pointless. Look you are on vacation with your family and kids. I sat in the theater for the new Nemo show and kids were crying all over the place and the mother's refused to remove them. Flash photography is the same thing as babies crying. It is going to happen no matter what and if Disney wants to do something about flash photography than why don't they make t a rule to take crying children out. If they had one of those no one listens anyways.

I love the "I did it for the children" defense.

Why'd you cut line in front of those 50 people? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you squeeze in front of those people who'd been waiting in place for Spectro for the last hour? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you sit in the middle of the theater and refuse to follow the CM's instructions to move to the end of the row? "I did it for my kids."

Why'd you try to sneak into the LTT character meal to have pics taken with the characters when you didn't have ADR's? "I did it for my kids."

A one-size-fits-all excuse for the end justifying the means.

Yes, and think of the great lesson this is teaching your kids - rules are for everyone but our family.

Then apology accepted. :thumbsup2

But not everyone does this. In fact, the only time I snap pics in dark rides is when we've been sitting for about 5 minutes in Test Track or Spaceship Earth or whatever. If you've had 5 minutes to look around, I'll snap.

Otherwise, no. I never do that. Even though there are things I'd now love to snap a pic of, and it wouldn't ruin MY experience, because I've seen it over and over...I don't do it. Wouldn't be nice to others.

My DD who is nine was getting loud about the guy behind us using his flash. I was trying to quiet her down but she insisted "Disney made the rules for a reason mom, people should follow the rules. If we have to at school, why do adults break them at Disney"

I was proud of her but embarassed at the same time, not wanting to cause a scene in the ride, as it had broken down, but the man leaned up and apologized to her for not following the rules, and for her being a stand up citizen.

Exactly. We're not being hypocritical, this is something that I believe the majority has never done and will never do, and it's bothersome to everyone, not to mention against the rules. Besides, "we all do it" is not great justification for anything, and definetly not a good thing to teach to your children.

Get over yourselves....I was there in May and don't recall any postings or announcements that said you could not take pictures on POTC.

I must be one of the "annoying" ones who took pictures for my 3 year old to show to his friends and family when we got back home...

Sorry........but I did it for my children. Who cares if people take pictures in the dark?

When it is night time on main street, should I not take pictures of the castle because there is going to be a flash?

So basically, you're saying that because you ruined parts of the ride for everyone else it's alright because you did it for your son? What about the other children who are there to see it? What about the people who have never been to WDW and may never be able to go again but still adhere to the rules?

I do not have a problem with one or two pictures being taken, though I dislike it and 99.9% of the time you will come out with only dark blurry photos. I understand that if you will only do it once to have as a souvenir, it's not a severe issue. (And yes, it is easy to zone out the "no flash photography" when you're having fun. It happens sometimes!)

The problem is when you have more and more people doing the exact same thing, one or two pictures soon becomes 15 flashes going off. You need to take into consideration whether or not ruining the lighting and experience for that part of the ride is really worth getting one poor photo. There is a gift shop full of postcards with lovely shots which you can purchase to place in a nice spot in your scrapbook or photo album.

Do they always have what you want pictures of? No. But those are the times that you should follow the rules and bite the bullet. I have gone on POTC almost every year since I was 6, and not one of those times have I ever broken the rules. Did I want to? Oh yes. Especially after they added Jack! However rules are put in place for your sake, and for the sake of those around you!!

When you take a photo-- even once-- you are destorying the atmosphere and function of the ride itself. Please be considerate of others around you!

Remember, "The needs of many outweigh the needs of the one!":)

I will admit to being a party to someone taking pictures on a ride. It was COP and right before the last clean up they had and everyone thought it was closing because the screens had visible patches etc. It was late at night and my DD wanted to take pictures because she loves it. Well we were the only ones in the theater, except for a young couple who sat very far away from us up in back. WE asked if they minded if she took pictures and they said emphatically no, it wouldn't bother them. Well shortly after the ride started I glanced back to make sure it wasn't bothering them, let's say I don't think they would have seen if they turned on all the lights in the place they were busy checking out something else!. When it ended we said thank you and they said for what?

The poster who said they never heard the no flash announcement probably missed it because they were on their cell phone!

This is really starting to bug me, they say no flash photography, before you get on the ride. I don't care why you're doing it, follow the rules. I've told people that there is no flash allowed while on the ride, it ruins the ride for others to see the flashes going off at everything.
Thank you.
Enjoy your vacation

Just an experience from last night.

Stopped over at MK to ride POC after leaving Epcot. We entered as the 9PM parade was ending, made our way to POC Both sides open. Went left and had the boat to ourselves. Nobody in left line.:) Had the camera around the neck. We know better than to take pics with flash on and ruin someone's experience. CM at boat entrance states "Please no flash photography" I laughed and said " No Mad Flashers here" He laughed and said "I believe you but you never know. They will come over the loudspeaker and let you know" Glad to hear a CM state it out.

The boat ahead of us was full from the right and there was a small line. One point proven: "It does pay sometimes to go left"
It took all of 10 seconds until the bright flashing(not your normal Point and Shoot flash) from the boat in front starts and a CM gives the warning over the Intercom. We heard this warning at least 4 more times(including one in Spanish which I had never heard before) throughout the ride yet the guy continued to flash away app 5 more times. Surprised people in the boat with him didn't throw him in the water. It was my visiting DM's first time riding since the changeover and it ruined it a bit but what about the poor people in the same boat? :confused3 We got back on and rode it again and this time no flashing:)

Proves another point: "No matter how good a job the CM's do at stating the obvious Some people just don't get it or care." :confused3

I just love how you set the example for your children that it is okay to break the rules for somebody that you love.

I am sure those 3-year-olds would have been devastated if you got home and would have followed the rules instead of giving them those pictures.

Oh hey, maybe one day, if your kids break the law....then you can remind them that is is okay because it was for somebody they love.

I've definitely witnessed people taking pics on PoTC...

...thing is, in January I witnessed something I had never seen before, someone was taking flash photos in HM! Are you serious?

He said the freaking "Spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights!"

Have you no compassion for the 999 ghosts? Geez, people. They're out to socialize, and some people just have to ruin it.

Me personally- I did it for Johnny!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (the outsiders!)[/QUOTE]

I love that!!!:rotfl: My sister and I say it all the time. "do it for Johnny, do it for Johnny" Most people have no idea what we are talking about, but I am glad to see someone does.

Now on with the show...... I have not read the whole thread, but here is my 2 cents worth. I am one of those people who are subject to extreme migraines. I have spent many rides and events with my eyes closed thanks to the flashes on digital cameras. You can not attend a school event, play, concert or amusement park without some camera happy person flashing all around you. For those of us with a medical issue it is a big DEAL!!
I have a right to ride the dark rides without pain just as much as anyone else or "those doing it for their kids." I have kids, trust me they will be fine without a photo of every minute of the trip.
Please enjoy the moment instead of trying to photograph everything. I find that I miss out on a lot when I try to take a photo of everything instead of living in the moment.

I'm glad to hear that at least some ride CMs are reminding people as they board the ride. IMO the CM should have at least talked to the flashers as they stepped off the ride if not have security waiting to do the talking.

just chiming in my agreement here...and really more for a selfish reason...I suffer terribly from migraine headaches. They are excruciating, let me tell you. And nothing sets one off more quickly than a bright blinding light right in my face. I avoid being in pictures at night or low light just b/c of the flash factor.

Some extremely rude person was snapping away while we were on POTC, with one of those strobe light type flashes and I had two choices, close my eyes or hope he didn't turn in our direction. I was so worried that he was going to turn around and get me in the face that I ended up closing my eyes and missing the whole ride. I'm glad I did though, b/c he DID turn around and take a picture, which blinded my husband for a few seconds. That did NOT go over well and my husband put his hand up over the guys camera and said "STOP". If I know my husband he hung on to that camera for just a second and maybe gave it a shake for emphasis...:rotfl2: Rude camera guy stopped responded with "Sorry dude..." seriously, that's what he said.

please people...follow the dang rules!

I like your husband's response. Reminded the guy in no uncertain terms that using the flash is quite rude.

Why some people insist on breaking the rules at Disney World even after being reminded are beyond me. It's not like the rules are complicated. The rules they have are in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everybody, not to make people miserable.
