Please complain about MTV racial remark

Too young to remember "Soul Man" I take it

First, I've seen the previews of this movie, enough to know that that alone offends me. "Soul Man" I guarentee would be found offensive if filmed today. A white man dressed up as a black woman, playing on black stereotypes, would be offensive and I'm sorry if you have to argue with me on that.

I agree with Pongo69. The women who are being demoralized and exploited obviously don't have a problem with it...if they don't care... why should I care? It's simple, if you don't like the videos or whatever else is on don't watch the channel. That is why they have all those buttons on the remote control. If you don't like what is on the tv - turn the station.

I think America has lost it's sense of humor. It seems to me that people sit around and watch tv just so that they can find something to complain about. So what if they made fun of Michael Jackson? It was a joke, I'm sure he'll get over it. I'm overweight but I don't start calling tv stations and writing letters to the editor every time someone overweight is made fun of. I was always taught when I was growing up of a little saying that starts something like...Sticks and stones..

You can't please everyone all the time. No matter what you say or do, someone somewhere is offended by it. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions and they have a right to speak it, but once you have done so get over it and move on.

I'm not trying to single any one person out. This is just for the general population who think just because they don't like something it has to be changed.

Ok then, if Michael Jackson had cancer and lost his hair because of chemo would that be funny if someone made fun of him being bald. Wouldn't other people with cancer be hurt and offended?

As a black christian female, I don't buy into women are being exploited and demoralized. These women made the choice to AUDITION FOR THE VIDEOS AND SHAKE THEIR BUTTS and GRINDING HALF NAKED INFRONT OF A CAMERA.

They have to learn the steps and the moves. These women are given the choice to either perform or not. They didn't have to do but they chose to do it. No one put a gun to their heads so again they made the choice to degrade and demoralize themselves.

I dont disagree with you that ANYONE who is in these videos has a gun held to them. They are getting paid. I agree with that much

Where I have a problem with it is what kind of image they project for ALL women. My little girl, my DW, my mother, my sister nor any other woman close to me better not EVER have a male treat her the way those girls are treated in the videos and think they will get by with it. I am not a male beating my chest either. In the same sense, I dont want my little boy to think this is the way all females are.

But if you dont stand up for whats right, then you will fall for anything. What I mean is we have to take a stand, even if it isnt the most popular thing at the time. I am not political(or at least I dont think I am) but I know what God places in my heart to be right and wrong and He gives me those choices.

The great thing is we can all agree to disagree here and hopefully what I write doesnt step on toes.

It's not only MTV but BET,Vh1 and other Video channels. These women made their choices knowing full well what they were getting into.

Yes, but how many young girls are watching this, thinking to themselves, 'wow, that looks like a lot of fun, I want to do that when I grow up'. How many are imitating those moves now and trying them out on the playground?

So should they be made illegal? Are you sure you want to start down that slippery slope, because you never know what somebody else might be offended by. Keep tossing away your rights people, there's always somebody standing there willing to take them from you.

Also, small children shouldn't be watching MTV, and if their parents let them, that's their choice, not yours!

MTV has morphed into such a wasteland, it doesn't even deserve to be called Music Television anymore. It's nothing but 24/7 stupidity.

I wouldn't give MTV the time of day - to defend them or criticize them. It's not worth the effort. They will continue to do what they do best as long as they have an audience, and apparently they do.

I'm pretty sure there are many out there doing it, but it's up to the parents to instill in their daugthers mine included that it's not acceptable nor is it nessecary to degrade themselves.

If they decide to do it anyway is totally up to them. It's not as if they don't know what they're doing.

Can you imagine how much uproar there would be if a white male dressed up and spoofed a black teenager? [/B]

Actually, there was such a movie several years ago. I believe the name was "Soul Man." Very offensive movie but it *was* made! Hard to believe though.

Oh, to be honest, I don't believe a word that comes out of MJ's mouth. *Only* one plastic surgery? Yeah right! I don't even believe that he has the skin disease. I think deep down, he did want to be white and that's why we see him so pale now.

It sure is a wasteland, but there are obviously people who like it.

On TRL, Shawn and Marlon Waynans were promoting their new movie, "White Chicks." As a game, the host showed pictures of Caucasian females to see if the African-American actors could recognize them. The last picture was one of Michael Jackson. (Shawn and Marlon Waynans denied being part of the "joke" and were very insulted)

Have you ever seen The Chappelle Show, SouthPark, or BET comedy? I would call this a very mild slam to MJ. The brothers are trying to promote their movie and would sell their soul if they had to.

I understand what your saying, still I don't see these women as a representative for all women. They're not representing me nor any other woman for that fact. They are representing themselves.
Every woman and man is responsible for their own choices.

BTW, I'm not an political person either, but I know not to blame others for the choices I make.

Oh come on...did you actually see the movie? Offensive? The movie 'tried' to address the idea that a rich white teen is unaware of what it is like to be discriminated against because of the color of their skin and made numerous stereotypical jokes about white people. It portrayed the white characters as mostly arrogant, spoiled and ignorant. The true offense was that it was a stupid story line and lacking in any sort of decent acting....

As to the OP, this is not the first or last time MJ has been the butt of a joke. Such is life of an extremely eccentric, wacko multi-gazillionaire...

I don't agree that children will get the wrong idea from a movie like White Chicks. If they understand that all people are different, I don't see the problem. After all, we're not all hookers or strippers or whatever and kids have learned that over time so I fail to see what the problem is.

If you think that was offensive to Michael you should check out Chris Rock's last comedy special on HBO. His bit about Michael was hilarious and as usual, right on target. For those who didn't laugh at his bit, I doubt they have a sense of humor anyway. And if you think MTV is offensive to minorities, watch the Chappelle Show. I'm still puzzled that Dave's bits about Slave Reparations and The Black White Suprematist didn't cause an uproar among the black community. I almost found them offensive.

why can't people just take things as a laugh these days.jeez

Ok, I have to agree with you there. I see you're from the UK, and I know comedy is a lot different there than what's on primetime here. I watch Ab Fab all the time and you really have to take your "U.S. Sensitivity Glasses" to watch that show and not be offended at some stuff.

But, back to the original topic. My point is, make fun of Michael Jackson all you want, but don't make fun of him for his disease because that disease is very real, effects other people, and the side effects are painful.

LIGHTEN UP

Is that a pun???

Very funny, as was the MTV joke on Michael Jackson as far as I'm concerned. Not the most horrible thing ever said about the guy. Leno and Letterman - not to mention Jon Stewart - say a lot worse about politicians every weeknight. It's called humor.

I think Michael Jackson looks more like a white woman because of the multiple plastic surgeries he has had on his face and less because of the disease he had to make his coloring lighter. When Michael was a child he didn't look the slightest bit effeminate, but somewhere down the line he obviously decided he'd rather look more like Diana Ross and less like Denzell Washington. The skin coloring issue is just one small facet to the bizarre changes this man has gone through and the only one he didn't inflict on himself.

I do sympathize with anyone who has this disease, including Michael Jackson. But honestly, I think his skin becoming white is the least of his problems.

Is it fair to take shots at him regarding the way he looks? Probably not. But he seems to always be in the media since he is unable to stop luring young boys to his bed (how many beds are there in Neverland? Just one???? ) so its a natural that comics will pick on him.
