Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

I didn’t like G+ because I didn’t like getting up at 7 am for the mad dash for passes every morning of my vacation, but (so far) this is worse. Way worse. We only fly down for long weekends… does that mean without a 7 day window we’ll never get Rise or Guardians or HM or TSM etc etc? Why would we come?

I was very wrong about G+.

This is my fear too. G+ was "fair" where in everyone going to the park that day could wake up at 7 and make a LL for the ride they most wanted to do that day. Onsite guest only had an advantage for buying ILL before park open.
I get 4 day weekends every other weekend with my current schedule (please note I work 4 day weekends every other so it's not all rainbows), but with G+ we could accomplish basically everything we wanted in all 4 parks in 3 days at the parks. Yes it was busy days, but we did it all. I really am going to have to evaluate whether renewing our APs will be worth it to us with the new system.

We let our APs expire in May (out of state), and I am so glad we did before spending 4k+ for 3 people to renew. We got Universal ones this spring and will happily use my express pass after 4 that is included. We were going to do 3 days at Disney with 2 park days at the end of our NYE Universal trip, but I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle and $$ now. We would have to stay onsite to have any sliver of a chance at getting LLSP or any decent on LLMP

Yeah, our APs expire 8/5 and I can't see any reason to renew them. Maybe they'll figure out a fix or go back to the old system, but I'm not giving them $$ on the hope they'll fix it. I'm already reconsidering our trip at the end of august since I haven't purchased flights yet.

I renew in December. My biggest issue is we have Jollywood tickets and of course the trip is like 3 days after our AP expire, so we are going to Disney no matter what for Jollywood. If I buy park tickets for the rest of the weekend I am already looking at like 1/3 the cost to renew, so they may get me for another year...

I just booked my LLs this morning at 7am for Saturday next week and earliest return time for Tiana was 3:10PM.

Otherwise all other rides in MK still have 9:30AM-ish availability at this time.

So Tiana will be out of LL for sure probably more than 3 days in advance for a while.

I think the new system they just implemented is considered the fix for the things people didn't like about Genie+! Early mornings, no pre-booking, very little advantage to on-site guests. The things they changed about the "pay" system were things some folks were asking for! The biggest change, for us, is the advantage we get for pre-booking staying on-site. If we don't stay on-site, I'd be questioning the value, too, unsure of what might be available at 3 days out.

Wow - that's 9 days out for Tiana and mid-afternoon is the earliest time? That situation probably isn't going to improve for quite some time as people look to experience the new ride.

We do stay onsite, but without a full 7 day advantage because of only staying weekends we'll get locked out of some big rides the way it stands now.

They'll have to raise prices to make LLs work, or include more rides/fold in LLSPs. This really stinks if they can't get it to work at least as well at G+ as far as availability.

Sorry, but can you explain why you wouldn't have the 7-day advantage for an on-site weekend stay?

yup I actually really liked Genie+. I'm staying onsite at the end of August but only for 3 nights prior to a cruise on the Fantasy. This thread is making me think I should just buy tickets to MNSSHP and no multipass. I mainly waited to be there for Food and Wine anyways.

Wait times for Remy and Frozen are 40 and 35 minutes right now, which is way shorter than normal at this time of day (8:30 pm). I think they gave out fewer LLMP than G+. Maybe just to make sure everything went smoothly today, or maybe a permanent change. (Just my hypothesis based on limited data. Please don’t yell .

Today was our 7 day window. I went in thinking I'd book AK for 08/03, then changed my mind to HS on 08/04, then when I didn't like the times available, tried MK on 08/04, didn't like that either, so ended up buying MK on 08/03. The times available really weren't bad, just not ideal with our touring style (SS and TSMM were right around lunch time).

I ended up with the following rides/times: POC @ 9:45, Buzz @ 10:45, Tiana's @ 2:15.

The app is glitchy. It keeps showing me an earlier time for Buzz and HM, but whenever I try to change it, the time isn't actually available.

I'm not sure yet if I prefer this new iteration or Genie+. I liked how with Genie+, I could rope drop one park, take a break at our resort, and stack LLs at a second park like HS. I guess it could still workout, with buying for AK, and then making additional selections at HS/MK.

[I hate explaining disney logic, but here goes lol] If I understand correctly, everyone (staying onsite gets a 7 day head start but can book length of stay. If it's like with the old FP system or the current dining reservation system, that means that when you go to book headliners, the first days of your trip are usually booked up but days at the end of your stay might have openings because people checking in during the few days before you have already had a shot at those early slots during their 7 day+ window. If you only stay 3-4 days, most slots, if not all, will be booked up. It's like with standard dining res advice that if you want something like Space 220 or Ohana, when your window opens you should check towards the end of your trip and work backwards.

I think they are saying that even with the 7 day advantage, if you are only doing a 2-3 day trip you still may not get the "big" rides reserved, like SDD or currently Tiana (this one will die down especially in winter). You will lose out to guests with longer stays.

Not true
Only applies to people physically in the US or Canada.
Everybody else, the "international guests", are unable to make any reservations or buy any add ons until they get to US soil by which time availability will be very limited.
Disney haven't given any reason for this discrimination.

Actually there's good news on that front. It's been worked out that if you change your profile settings in the MDE app to say that your country is the United States, quit the app, turn off Location Services (just for MDE should be fine, but some people are putting it in Airplane Mode as well to be sure) then open the app again, it should work fine and allow you to make Lightning Lane purchases from outside North America. People have tried this on both iPhone and Android and are reporting back good results, so hopefully it will also work for you (until Disney "fix" it of course!)

Having just done this, for a 3 night stay, I was able to book Tiana for my second day (so 7+1), and had SDD availability on both 7+1 and 7+2. Even right now at 8:15, I can book SDD on 7+2 for 11:55 if I wanted to, which is way better than same day G+ availability at the same time.
