Pixar doing traditional Animation

I was reading through Wikipedia online, and I heard that in an attempt to restore hand drawn animation Pixar might start doing cel-animated cartoons. Does anyone else have any news on this or know about this? I do know that the traditional animation equipment sold off by Disney was in fact bought by Pixar, and Pixar has always realized that it isn't about the format but the story. So though, has anyone else heard about Pixar doing cel art films?

Isn't hand drawn and painted cells a lot more expensive to produce than CGI? If it is about "story" and not media, why change to a more expensive format.

Its just as easy to do cel-shading on the computer, why bother with using actual ink where you can't reuse the work you have already done.

Oh yeah, to paint all the individual cels they'll still use computers ofcourse, and they'll probably use computers for a lot of other things where needed. As I said, the main reason they might do the change is just to revitalize hand drawn animation, althought they've always done CG movies they say that to be a good CG animator you need traditional skills. So for one thing without any traditional animated movies being made, they're artists at Pixar in the future might lose their skill and they might not have any animators to take into their department from other places. Also hand drawn animation isn't nescesarrily any more expensive, and companies such as Pixar don't worry as much about money as they do the creative product. Pixar might be trying to become more of an animation company instead of just a CGI animation company, by doing this they'll be able to make new kinds of films. Another thing is now that so many companies are doing CG movies, by doing hand drawn films they'll be able to have that originaility and identity in the business that they first had when they released Toy Story.

I have no idea if there is any truth to the original post, but theoretically, a studio focused on story might use "hand-drawn" if they thought that was the best look for the story. Even if it were in fact more expensive, it could still be the right choice if it resulted in a better film.

Yeah, right now it is just a rumor, not nescesarrily a fact. But you make a good point, different stories are better for different mediums. Snow White suits hand drawn animation greatly, and Toy Story suited CG animation greatly. Could you see Aladdin as a polygonic movie done in CG?
