Pickle part III

I could eat this stuff for breakfast. I've even started eating lunch at 11am because I can't wait until noon. :rotfl2:

Ohana's salad dressing

1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup diced white onion
1 cup canola oil (I use 2/3 of a cup)

Place all ingredients except oil in food processor (I use a blender) and blend until smooth.
Slowly add oil until it is well incorporated into dressing.

Halp!! I need an intervention!

After eating at Ohana's twice on our trip, (OMG YUM!) I fell in love with their appetizer salad. The dressing is out of this world. I mean, if I could drink the bottle of it each meal, I would. It is THAT GOOD. I hardly ate any of the meal because I was too busy stuffing my face with this salad.

Well, low and behold I found the recipe. I made a batch earlier this week and now all I eat is salad. I'm going to turn into letuce and field greens. Heck, I am going to turn green!! I can not stop.eating.this.stuff. It's pure heaven.

What shall I do, say you?
I say you shall share the recipe!!!
The menu at Ohana's is:

- salad with sweet honey/lime dressing - I could have licked my plate.
- bread (I don't think you will like the butter - it has coconut in it) I loved it.
- ooey gooey chicken wings
- pork? pot stickers with dipping sauce - a spicy one, sweet and sour one, and peanut one (ick)
- a noodle dish with brocoli on the side (yum for the brocoli, but I didn't like the noodles) My BFF could have eaten a pot full of it.
- skewered meat out the wazoo. Pork, chicken, steak and garlic shrimp with a spicy kick to it. I found the pork on the tough side but had a nice flavour, but the chicken and steak were AMAZING. They marinate the steak for 3 days! So tender.) The shrimp was good (I love seafood) but after a couple, the spicy kick got to me and I lost patience in peeling them. heh
For dessert, they had a bread pudding served with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce. I can't remember the other dessert as I was too busy stuffing my face with the bread pudding. I think it was make your own sundae or something. I think that is everything. I'd eat there again for sure only they need to have a supply of wheelbarrows on hand for the glutons like myself. :teeth:

Enjoy your sun. It has been cloudy and rainy all week. I don't think the temperature went above 68. Eek! I don't want to lose my tan. I haven't had a tan in over 20 years!

I know that we just got back from a ten day trip a week ago, but man, what a letdown that you go through. It's awful. So depressing. Mark is not a total Disney freak like I am so he doesn't quite get the withdrawal. He told me I should take a solo trip. OMG, don't tempt me!! That would be fun for a few days but I imagine would be quite lonely the rest of the time. Why do I have to live so far away!!!

Hrm, guess I just wrote a novel. Oopsie.
I totally understand the withdrawl. I go through it too. I feel so much better now that we are planning our next trip. It is over a year and a half away, and nothing is booked yet, but I feel so much better, just knowing about when our next trip will be. Disney is my anti-depressant:rolleyes1
Tracy - can I get the salad dressing recipe?? My sister in law just loved Ohana's salad! I liked it also, just not a vegie lover like her:)

I agree with you - Ohanas is wonderful! I love the spicy shrimp - and just about everything else.:thumbsup2

Your trip pics were great - I really glad you were able to go and surprise your BFF. A very special trip for you all.:goodvibes

Kathy - your trip is so close!! You must be flying high with anticipation!!!

Heather - let's try to get together soon - will try to call tommorrow. Its been very busy here, work, school and my mother in law and sister in law have been visiting. I was at the Disney store yesterday and remembered our shopping spree last year.:) Would love to get together!
YES!!! we have to get together!

ohh...thank you!!!!
I like to make a Disney recipe now and then for a pick-me up...this one is easy-peasy!!!

So......we went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch after Chris's baseball game on Sat. What was on the menu???? FRIED PICKLES!!!! I was:lmao::lmao:
If we ever get the chance to all be together at once, we have to try them. (It sounds gross, but would be fun with my pickles)

Kathy...4 days!!!!!

Fried pickles???? :scared1: That? Sounds nast.ay. Blech. To this day I still can't look at a pickle without snickering to myself. This summer, I heard one of the announcers on the radio mention pickle juice pops. You know, like a popsicle? Hurl!!! I've no idea what or where she was talking about, but oh my. Gag me with a canoe!

Enjoy your Ohana's dressing. I'm just about to make a salad. Surprise!!!

Tracy - Thanks for the recipe!!

Heather & Tracy - Fried pickles & Pickle Pops?? Yes, the hurl factor would be there for me too. Although of the two, I think anything that is fried I might try.

The ONLY pickles I like is you guys:) Real food pickles, no like. I don’t know, seeing them floating in the pickle juice, with those little spices floating around, all I can think is maybe some kid drooled, spit or threw something in the barrel – yuck!!!!

So, I’ll stick with you guys.:thumbsup2

Kathy - your trip is so close!! You must be flying high with anticipation!!!

I can't believe it, Janet. :)

Kathy...4 days!!!!!

I am so excited, Heather.

I don't like pickles in any fashion. But fried? YUCK! That is utterly disgusting.

Hiya Pickles.

Hi, Christine.

/
Morin' Pickles!! How everyone is having a fabulous day so far!!

Went to the Home & School meeting last night at Samantha's new school. It didn't take me long to get involved! :) I'm now the Pennfield Rep for Coordinating Council (not entirely sure what I need to do but there is a meeting tomorrow nite). I'm helping out with the mini grants for the teachers and the book fair next week. Still missing my yearbook, but not quite as much as I thought.

Got to actually talk on the phone to two Pickle peeps yesterday - yeah! - Heather & I took an "extended" lunch to chat and caught up with Christine while driving to the school meeting. I love connecting withe everyone, whether by phone or just right here.

Have a good day all!!
:goodvibes

I'm not a pickle fan either (except for my Pickle Peeps) but fried and pickle pops sound even more gross. The pickle pops are interesting though....I know that athletes drink pickle juice to stay hudrated, so it kinda makes sense on a hot day to cool them down too. Ewww though!
Hiya Pickles.

Hi!
It was great to chat!

So....a new little pickle.....Has anyone ever rented DVC points? I was thinking about that too. Might not even be an affordable option since it is a peak week, but the thought crossed my mind while reading Nebo's Trip report. I can afford CSR as it sits now, a deal on points could work too.

Heather, I've rented points a few times and loved it! Cannot go wrong with a deluxe for about the cost of a moderate. I've been in a studio at BWV and one bedroom at SSR.

I would make sure the person you rent from has been a long time DISer and rented a few times before - the experienced ones usually have it all down to a science. Each one rents differently - soe ask for a % once the reservation is made and the rest 30 or 60 days before arrived. Some ask for the entire amount with the reservation. I prefer not to pay more than $10 or $11 a pt, but have paid $12 and might even pay $13 if I was to go through David's point rental....but not sure that is necessary. Thanksgiving week might be very difficult to get unless you can find an owner who can book your resort 11 mos out. Good luck! Oh - (url was blocked) has lots of info about the various DVC resorts.

Good morning, Pickles!!!

THREE DAYS, Kathy!!!!

THREE DAYS, Kathy!!!!

Yes, I can't believe it, Christine...don't know where the time went.

Heather, be sure to get references. We tried this once and had major problems and never attempted it (and won't) again.

Good Morning, Pickles!

Kathy, how awful you had a terrible experience renting points - all 3 experiences were terrific. :sad2: I'm sure you were very careful too.

I don't care much about references because any friend can say they rented points and be a reference...I check their DIS history, make sure they've been around a few years and post on other forums other than the DVC points rental board.

Another option, the cost just a bit more, is to go through David's DVC Point Rental - he has an ad at the top of the DVC rental forum. Many DVC owners use David to rent their points for them - it is the safest way, other than knowing a friend or DISer who has points available to rent. I know many stories of renting points that have been great. the bad seed is rare, but it sure is awful when it happens.

Tracy, let us know what happens with the contact lens issue. Hope it is resolved today.

Have a great Wednesday. I have a cold (first one in 2 yrs!) - hoping it is gone before my oncologist app't or the surgery will be delayed.

:grouphug:

Happy Hump Day Pickles!!!

Kathy - 2 days!!!:woohoo::woohoo:

Good morning, Janet. I can't believe we leave the day after tomorrow. :yay:

Christine, sending some pixiedust:pixiedust: that your cold goes away. I know you want to get this surgery done sooner rather than later.

And to my other Pickle friends, Tracy, Kari, Heather and Kelly...happy hump day and I'm going to DISNEY in two days. :dance3:

Well, I am currently in bifocal contact lenses right now. I can't help but feel like I'm 65 years old. :scared1: My mother wears bifocals for pete's sake. Will see how I make out with them. I did the distance lense and reader in my other eye successfully for three weeks and then my reader lense go blurry on me. I put in another pair and the same thing. :(

Christine, if you like honey, get some of that into you before bedtime. My dad swears by it. Knock on wood, I haven't had a cold for a few years either. Oddly, they seemed to stop when I quit smoking. Isn't that strange?

Kari, you are awol. Get yer hiney in here. Heather, need to know more about your trip. Janet, I see you are getting yourself busy again. Good luck and don't burn yourself out.

And Kat... :goodvibes Weehaw!! Those last days full of anticipation...there's nothing like it! I am so excited for you. Hrm, I need to start planning another trip. :rolleyes1

Lordy, here comes the rain. I am so  of rain!

Bifocals? Thoughts those didn't come until around 50+...you deserve a hug today. :grouphug:

I know a lot people who swear by honey, but I'd gag so much it would not be any help at all. YUCK!

Sophia is sooo cute today...she has a travel size DVD player, which Mia bought for the road trip to FL...this morning she took a liking to caring it around - she loves curling up with it on one of her special chairs..or like right now..snuggled next to "Na'Na".

She only sits with it for maybe 10 to 20 mins, then turns it off and goes to play with her babies and other toys. she has painted and played with Play Dough too...now she is back with the DVD playing cuddled up next to me.

I'm looking forward to cooler weather (92 today) so we can go to the playground...after my surgery - well by the time I can start walking again and pick up in/out of the stroller - it should be great weather - very low 70's. :yay:

Yes, the dreaded bifocals. Progressive lenses sound so much more er, sophistcated  but, in contact they are call bifocals.

I so miss the toddler stage. My little rugrat was so cute. :cutie: Once she reached yard ape stage though, well, things went all downhill from there. :lmao: She told me the other day that she wants to go on a diet with me. She has a little belly and is worried about it. Poor thing. Only thing is, I ate whatever I wanted in Disney and didn't watch my diet at all. Now two weeks later, I'm still stuffing my face like there's no tomorrow. :rotfl:

ETA. OMG. I am SO angry right now. The school just called me. Let me give a bit of background. Cass takes meds that affect her appetite and her sleep. She has zero appetite at lunch time and barely eats, and once her meds wear off about supper time then she will eat a good meal. She eats a hearty breakfast in the morning and then takes her medication. I've sent her with soups, sandwiches, fruit (she won't eat raw veggies), granola bars, dried fruit, apple sauce or yogurt. It comes home spoiled every time. I can't afford to waste all of this food every day. So, today, her teacher brought her to the office and basically thought we we're only sending her to school with junk. The school secretary wanted to know why we are sending her with gummy bears and nothing else?!?! OMG, gummy bears? They are 100% juice fruit chews. Nice exaggeration lady. Cass knows about her meds and I've told her to tell the teacher if she was ever questioned about her lack of lunch items. The doctor knows about her eating issues and is okay with her nibbling on what she feels like she can eat at lunch. I resent basically being accused of neglect. Unreal.

 I'd send them a note (with the medical explanation) to be kept on file in the nurses office, main office and with her teacher - otherwise I'll bet my boots you'll hear from them again one of these days!

Good morning, Pickles!!!

THREE DAYS, Kathy!!!!
I checked the one linked on the DIS, just to get an idea of rates last night...I don't know. I can only see doing it if we could do a 1br, but that is more than we wanted to spend. And then there's the whole trust thing.....everyone that I feel I know well enough on the DIS to trust renting points from uses most of them, so since it's a high point week wouldn't have enough.
Yes, I can't believe it, Christine...don't know where the time went.

Heather, be sure to get references. We tried this once and had major problems and never attempted it (and won't) again.
I am SOOO excited for you!

That is my fear, Kathy. Plus, the more I think about it, I can cancel a regular ressie all the way up to 45 days out, whereas I'd have to pay for the points NOW, and anything can happen in 18 months.

Yard Ape:lmao::lmao: I'm stealing that one!

I'd be livid! People give us a hard time with Chris too...he is so darn limited in what he can eat with his sllergies. If one more person tells me I can get him to eat celery by putting peanut butter on it I will scream! He is ALLERGIC to peanut butter. Well, dip it in chocolate then...nope, allergic to that too. Just let the kid eat what he wants, please!

You've never heard of yard ape? lol Some might be offended by it, but it's a term of endearment here. :)

I just spoke to Cass about the incident. She told the teacher and vice principal that she has no appetite at lunch because of her medication. I asked her what they said, and she told me that they just said, okay and she went back to her classroom. Then, I guess they called me. This is not the first time this has happened. I've had so many meetings with the school and the guidance counselor about my daughter and they KNOW about her issues etc. At this point, I can't even be civil about it. On top of that, she is a picky eater. I can't force her to eat raw veggies. She hates them. Fruit is a hit or miss. The school is nut free, so that limits us even more. I'll gladly pack her full lunches and when they come home rotten, I'll send them the bill to reimburse me. Last year, hot lunch for the week (three days) was $15 most weeks. She never ate any of it. Did the teacher inform me? Nope. My sister is a teacher there and she told me about it. She said over half of the kids don't eat their hot lunch. They have 20 minutes to scarf down their lunch and then they are shipped outside to play. Does that make any sense at all? So many parents have complained. I give up. I'm glad that you "get it". Some truly don't and that makes my head spin.
