Okay, odd question...

I am an avid scrapbooker, and I have always wanted to make pages featuring pictures of my meals, but everytime I try to take pictures of my dishes, they come out blurry:mad:

Is there a trick to taking pictures of the dishes? Since I am doing the 7 day this time around, I figure I would have more to practice, but I definitely want to get it right!

I would start by checking the camera's manual to see how far away from the subject you must be for the camera to focus correctly. If you're too close (even by an inch or two) it could cause the pictures to be blurry...... been there, done that, won't do it again.

If you do, use the "macro" mode. I did and the pictures came out great. My family thought I was nuts for taking pictures of food...but it reminds me how yummy it was.

The "macro" mode is for taking pictures of things way close up. I think to like inches away.

The tips already noted should help. If you're using an SLR with the automatic or manual mode it will probably also have the macro function.

Or just use the auto focus and make sure it shows you it has focused. Generally, I was about 12" away from the plates. Yep! I photographed EVERYTHING!

Ritesh and Dragan were so used to it they knew not to set my son's food down until I had the camera up or the presentation would be spoiled before I could snap as he dove in!.

Just an idea - when I started scrapping these I did cut out right down to the edge of the plate and "set" the table on the page!

If your camera does not have a way to check the focus, like the old SLRs where you align two sides or grid a checker-board, try taking a few shots through a good magnifying glass. You get soft focus at the edges but can sometimes get closer that otherwise. Works with good SLRs too to increase the mag of the lens.

Or ask Ahnalira, who used a Canon G2 Powershot, now there was cruise food photograpy!
