People's dress in public - Warning a rant

There is proper attire for every situation, and being proper in one does not assure it is well advised for another. I don't care how confident and sexy you feel (or actually are) underwear is not proper outer wear unless you are in a bar. It's called UNDERwear for a reason people!! If you wouldn't wear it to church it's not proper for business either. If you dress like a ho don't be suprised when people think you really are one.

Well I would have looked mighty festive then, since I had on my Mickey Mouse PJ pants and WDW sweatshirt. :cool1:

I think my boys (15 and 13) would just opt for detention rather then me walking into school looking the way I was. :confused3

Somewhat slightly OT, but still belongs here....

The lady that owns the gym that my dd does gymnastics, she is in her 50's, gorgeous body, dresses very trendy. You would never know her actual age unless you knew her. With all of this positive stuff, the only thing I notice on the lady when I see her is "panty line." She always has panty line. Now granted I am also the first to say that I would take her body anyday at her age with even with the panty line - because I could change that.

But my point is that "panty line" is not becoming and unfortunately that is all I see of her. I just want to say, go buy a thong or go bora-bora, but I don't want it to hold back dd's gymnastics career! :lmao:

Just because something is trendy, doesn't mean that it is meant for everyone! I know my limitations and if I ever crossed the line I would like to hope that dh or a good friend would step in and put me in check!

*Most* older people :teeth: , myself included don't give a hoot about panty lines. We grew up with them, learned to live with, don't care about them. We were talking about panty lines at work the other day and two of the guys in the office said that they "loved" panty lines. Go figure.

The other day, we had a big staff meeting where people had to get up and accept awards. There were two of the younger girls in the office walking up in their skin tight polyester dress pants. Obviously either not wearing underwear or wearing a thong (the pants were so clingy you would have seen a panty line if they were) but instead of seeing a panty line, I got to see all of their glorious BUTT cellulite. Nice. Hmmm...I think I'd prefer the panty line.

 :thumbsup2 It's not unreasonable to think I'm wearing panties so I don't much care if there is a line. We aren't worried about bra lines. Heck, it's currently chic to show your bra strap. I don't mind looking at the lines from underwear as long as I don't have to look at the garments in question.

Sorry to disillusion you but you still have panty lines with a thong, they are just in a different spot. You would see her thong just as easily as you would her panties in a work out outfit.

Not a biggie if I can't see you (ie a quick run to the car and back like you say) I'm talking walking around the mall etc in them.

Plus my SIL couldn't figure out why a sales lady in an expensive boutique didn't take her seriously in them (I know I saw pretty woman too but if your on commission I'm guessing your going to pay more attention to the lady in the dressy clothes then the lady in the pj's...it seems like the better bet not right but still) apparently my brother just about died laughing when she asked what made the lady think she didn't shop their and the sales clerk said we don't sell pj's...... :rotfl2: She did eventully kinda see her point.

Well, that settles it. The young girls in my office are going COMMANDO!!! :teeth: I think they really need to invest in some of those shaper garmants.

I know what you mean. I am 16 and it is all I can do to find clothes that cover everywhere that is supposed to be covered. Not to mention I am ver conservative. Usually I end up buying a long guys/boys shirt and then were hip hugers or whatever. Todays styles have gtg...

When a good friend of mine was in college, she got very frustrated with the amount of skin shown in so many of today's styles. She and a few of her friends started a "mock group" that they called "The Society for Clothed America" (the SCA) as a result. They only did it for a joke, but it turned out that a lot of other students thought it was a good idea! They joked that instead of T-shirts with the group logo, they would get turtlenecks. That was years ago, but we still laugh about "The Society". Whenever we see someone revealing more than we want to see (women and men alike), we'll say "I wish he/she would join the SCA". :rotfl:

On my honor, I swear before god and everyone I WILL NEVER WEAR A THONG. I spend too much time trying to keep my underpants OUT of my butt crack, why on earth would I want to put them there on purpose?? They also seem somehow unsanitary. Definitely not my cuppa. And commando isn't an option. It feels icky to me. The gym teacher may be old enough to feel the same way. I'm pretty sure her panty lines won't come between your DD and Olympic gold :rotfl: Oh, a faboo alternative for us "older" women who don't care for thongs is the boy short panties. I saw that on Oprah and tried it. They are right! :thumbsup2

I think there's a major difference between wearing your pj bottoms to run the kids to school and going to the grocery in them. I may firmly believe there is an appropriate way to dress at all times but that doesn't mean I think it has to be hair makeup and heels at all times. I live in my sweats and jeans and rarely wear make up.

I have had 4 kids and nothing looks like it did back in the day--I am not extremely heavy but there would be spillage if I let it but I hate to see myself naked so WHY would I do that to someone else
About 2 years ago I had gone back to Mass and we lived in a "rough" neighborhood and while sitting on the porch I noticed that booty cutters and sport bras had made a comeback because that's all I seen people wearing-It wasn't just the girls who could get away with it but girls my size, as well as Aunt Jemima sized girls!! And it wasn't pretty!!
I wouldn't even wear those clothes to walk around my house in!! Like I said I am a big girl but I wear clothes so big you can't even see what size roll I may have under my clothes!

How about the woman that walked into the restaurant I was at last night with very thin white pants and a see through thong :confused3 . Did she not look in the mirror and figure out that everyone is going to KNOW she isn't a natural blonde??????

I truly feel for you! Throughout high school I was a size 9 or 11 which at the time I of course, thought was fat. I would never have been able to manage on the styles that are out there now! I often think of this especially because I have a DD who is just naturally tiny. Seriously, at 9 almost 10, her wrist is smaller around than her 6 yo brothers. A lot smaller. She gets clothes from a girl at church who is quite a bit bigger than she is and a lot taller. Now, technically these clothes should not "fit" her for a couple more years as this girl is in like 9th grade. However, at the age they are supposed to fit and the WAY they are supposed to fit are sooooo not happening in my house, so she is wearing them now when they "fit" in a way that does not leave skin showing or is not skin tight. What is with that look??? Of course, there was a thread on here saying the 80s looks are coming back and while it means skin should be covered (though my sis was the queen of the little black teddy peaking through so maybe not) I am not sure that is a good look either!

Its fun to be naked...

and free.

of flab...

but there are few of us who are so... at least they feel comfy enough with themselves to dress how they want

I find that usually it is those who are not comfy with their own appearance who notice others appearances first

Exactly what i was thinking. "its fun to be naked and flab free"
Who are we to judge others

Not a problem. :rotfl: Never, ever, not even on a dare.

The natural Blonde comment and the bora bora comment had me rolling.. thanks for the laugh ladies and gentlemen...

But serriously, if a young lady has the body confidence to wear something, let her wear it. Chances are she is uncomfortable, and is aware that she does not "look good" with a roll or two haning over the side of her pants. It can't be comfortable, but that is what is considered trendy today. I personally don't find hipster pant's comfortable, I always feel like I have to hitch them up.

But to the person who said there's no one who wants to look at that? There are plenty of men, FA's and Chubby Chasers alike who find that look desireable. It is a society who has been raised on "Thin is the only beauty" that belives that only someone who appears to be "perfect" and free of body fat is desireable.

If you can embrace who you are, and love yourself and every inch of your body, then that love will be returned by the world. Fashion be damned.

I hate when people wear clothes that don't fit them. I sure don't want to see the fat rolls hanging out. I have looked at people just open mouthed wondering why they are wearing that and how long it took them to actually get into their skin tight jeans.

I know clothes shrink in the dryer but still. Maybe the guys are attracted to that.

Yes I do wear tight pants not tight tight but tight enough, little shirts and thongs but everything is covered. And please if you are going to wear a white shirt don't wear a black bra. Yikes!
