People's dress in public - Warning a rant

Well, Ralph Loren is a little too expensive for me. :)

Actually at $65~ a pair (less if you've got a 20% off coupon to use at Bloomies or Lord & Taylor) they are comparable in cost to Gap or Eddie Bauer. Sure, you could buy jeans for half the cost at Old Navy, but they are only going to wear for 1/3 of the life of the Lauren jeans. LIke I said, I'm going on two years now with the two pair I have, and they still look brand new. :)

How do you equate "blubber" with "nice body"? :confused3

Well people in this thread talking about either if you have "blubber" or a nice body, it shouldnt be right to dress they want.

I say who cares what people say, They dont pay you're bills. As long as that person is not being a "hooker" on the streets, then its all fine.

I dont wanna see blubber hanging out some ones body either, but i have no right to tell them anything.

I don't buy those either. I tend to buy mine at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. Once in a while I'll buy jeans at other stores if they're having a really good sale. Or I have bought off of eBay. I refuse to spend more than $30 on any pair of pants. And that's on the high side.

As other things in my life cost more than what normal people use, I have to limit how much I spend on my clothes.
And fyi, my jeans have lasted 5 years so far. :)

We may not have a right to tell people what to wear, but I always say that if you look like a hooker, you'll be treated like a hooker.

Boy, how did you come to the conclusion that ANYONE was telling another person how to dress. This is a "vent" thread--meaning that the OP saw some disgusting "blubber" that was unneccessary and came to this board to vent about it. No one here is advocating that we tell people how to dress. We are just trying to understand why anyone finds it comfortable to have you stomach flapping out for all the public to see?

My mom used to tell me "don't advertise what you're not selling". She always said that it's great to dress in a way that flatters and celebrates your body, but draw the line at "putting all your goods in the shop window". Leave something to the imagination. The phrases seem old-fashioned now, but it's good advice that has served me well, and I hope to pass it on to my kids someday.

Wow!! That's awesome!

I went to a Taget in suburban Maryland this last weekend and saw a 40ish man in a pink sleeveless off the shoulder baby doll dress, pearls, and pink sneakers. Don't know what other accessories he had on because I did not want to stare. Yes, I said man! He did not have a wig or makeup on.

The funny thing is I met my DH after I was done shopping at another store and told him about it. When we drove out of the parking lot he was standing at a bus stop. The guy has guts!

I spend too much time trying to keep my underpants OUT of my butt crack, why on earth would I want to put them there on purpose??

Where's the Tag Fairy when you need her????? :teeth:

I truly don’t understand why some girls do the “muffin topping” thing. I myself have an ample amount of belly fat, but I cover it up. As a kid growing up a bit chubby, my mom taught me early on that some trends didn’t look good for my body type. Plus, too tight clothes make even the thinnest people look fatter. FWIW, even during the all-too-brief period when I was a size 4 :teeth: , I never let things hang out.

I’m all for girls being confident no matter how much they weigh, but there is an appropriate way to dress for your body type and figure. For instance, I don’t own any clingy “baby tees”—they just aren’t pretty on my body type. I think it helps improve confidence to know that you are dressed appropriately.

Not flab related, but what's up with the style of wearing half-clothing?

I saw a girl wearing a jeans jacket that ended right below her breasts. It made me think, "Where's the rest of the jacket?" :confused3

What if you don’t get out of the car? Since it’s my day off I had no reason to get up this morning and get all dolled up for the office. So when I was dropping off my kids at school I had on my crocks, PJ pants and sweatshirt, it may bother some folks but to me that’s fine, we live in country, where no one can see our driveway and no one at school saw my pants.
I'd have no problem dropping off the kids at school like this either, but.....the day that I do this will no doubt be the day that I end up broke down on the side of the road or in a car accident! :sad2:
For me it's following the "Mama" rule of always wearing clean (unstained) underwear....you never know who may end up seeing it! ;)

At what point/when did hooker style cleavage become everyday style for non-hookers? :confused3 And why? :confused3

Anything up my butt bothers me.

cteddiesgirl, you should be wayyyy more careful what you say on the boards. That tag fairy is always lurking and can you imagine that quote being your tag!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I am in my mid 30's and a size 6-8 and still don't want to wear anything that will show off my "baby body" that I still haven't been able to shed. You know the saggy ****s, cellulite butt cheeks, flabby arms and thighs and the pooch of belly fat but I would NEVER be caught dead showing my goods to anyone I don't know as well as I do DH. ;)

The thong thing gets me but what really gets me is a particular mother who is NOT thin *which is fine* except that she bends down at school to tie her kids shoes every morning and she's got on her low rise jeans, some lacy thong and you can read her "tramp stamp" on the top of her butt crack! It actually says something so vile that I just shake my head!

Someone with a lot more nerve than I have ever thought of having asked her about it and she claimed that when she and her ex were married they got a little "tipsy" while out one night and they decided to have matching vile tat's put on the very tip top of their butt cracks and she likes knowing that she can "advertise" without "advertising"......totally disgusting! It is very disturbing that my 5th grade son sees that! He even asked me about it a week or so and asked what it meant! I was so embarrased for her and for us! This particular woman also has her name tattoed on her neck on the back so that if she goes out with a guy and he happens to be "behind her" in the "act" he won't call her the wrong name!

I agree there is a way to dress trendy for YOUR body type! It seems to be slipping every year. I told my dd if she EVER wore something where I could see the "goods" no matter what goods they were she'd be in big trouble with me and her dad. Fortunately she is too modest to even think about it.
