Has anyone noticed an increase in security at WDW? My DH thinks I'm imaging things but I have noticed at least two individuals strolling through the park, unattended by other guest, who had the same type ear wigs that other WDW cast members wear. Both men were casually dressed but not in crew member attire. Today we even had the "Pluto" patrol check out the water taxi between boardings.

There are security personal that you will never see including some watching the guests from hidden locations like a second floor balcony on main street.

Due to the cost of security, Disney only puts into place what they have to. If something is going on, they will add agents even using off duty local law enforcement.

They do a pretty good job of screening at entrance to the parks. They have agents standing just past the bag check area looking for bad people.

Not certain if its new or not, on my trip a few weeks back, I noticed there was usually a real county or state cop standing near the bag checks.

We were there the week of the Boston bombings and saw a significant difference including dogs checking out buses before being allowed to board.

It is no secret that Disney has more Security in costume as Tourist than they do in costume as Security Host.

I would guess and say the more crowded it is, the more security they may have.
How tight is the security there? Is it basically just the parks and checking people's bags before they enter each park?

As Roz says, they're always watching. Always watching.

And that's a good thing.

Security like you see in Times Square, with uniformed cops carrying sub machine guns, is mostly for show. It is there for a disaster, but mainly to reassure the public that "it's safe." The best real security is invisible to the average citizen. While there is no security/protection system that is absolutely invincible, Disney has a reputable program. But bad things can still happen, of course. Don't forget that the Pentagon was hit on 9/11, and it has some of the most sophisticated security in the world.

Suffice it to say that there is much more than checking people's bags. WDW and DL are definitely targets, and both the Disney corporation and US homeland security know it...

Not new, a deputy has been near the bag checks at all parks since 9/11.

I saw something new last Sunday (July 7) when I was at the Magic Kingdom monorail leaving for the TTC. Before we boarded the monorail, a K9 team went into all the cars before they let us board.

We were there the week of the Boston bombings and saw a significant difference including dogs checking out buses before being allowed to board.

We were also there that week and noticed more security after the bombing. It appeared that Disney has their own canine unit. We also noticed a lot of security around the transportation areas.

We have been at WDW for 8 days and I have seen what I believe to be undercover security in both Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I am accustomed to security at the gate and Disney security officers inside, but this is the first time I realized there were undercover security. While at Epcot we were at Sum of all Thrills and a backpack had been left unattended. The cast members seemed especially nervous and began asking people if the backpack belonged to anyone. I found out later that they would have notified the canine patrol (also know as the Pluto Patrol) to check the bag before removing it to lost and found. To answer an earlier question the park has been full but does not seem as packed as in the previous years. I'm grateful for the added protection, it's just sad to think that anyone would target WDW.

ive read a few cast member books now that all talk about the security that you cant even see.

alot of security are walking around in plain clothes and you wouldnt even spot them, some have one job, walk around main street until summoned to the emporium when thieves are trying.

also, there was a theme park insider book where he worked in tomorrowland and somone handed him a fake 50 dollar bill, they had a button under the counter to summon the security and basically they continue the sale as to not create a scene, the person leaves thinking they got away with it, security just wait until the person leaves the store then asks them to follow them lol

very swift operation if all true, they hand over all counterfit moneys to homeland security apparantly. somtimes the people with the fakes are just victims of another crime so disney dont always press charges apparantly.

there are state troopers outside the bag checks since 9/11.

they have a k9 unit on site for sniffer dogs, and they are fairly routine these days, they will normally just tell people they are checking for mousetraps lol

best line i heard was, somone dropped a treat earlier and the dog is reallll hungry lol

you wouldnt even know when somthing is going on in the parks in seems they just code word everything and make sure its done and out of sight very fast to preserve the magic.

There is a lot of security in Disney that does not look like security. Many of them look like tourists like all of us.

I undersyand now why people don't bring backpacks into the parkss lol.is that the only place they check bags?
