Parents Arrested After Child Found Abandoned Outside Disney Ride

 This makes me so angry!!!

Our kids are older (12 and 9 last year) and I tell you if I can't see one of them I will ask DH "do you have _____ with you?" or "where's _____ I can't see him/her".

I doubt the parents are telling the truth. Many cultures leave babies in strollers all the time, outside restaurants and stores, etc.

Years ago I was a nanny in NYC. I struck up a friendship with a norwegian nanny a couple of doors down. I'll never forget when she stopped by one cold winter morning. We sat in the kitchen, drinking coffee and chatting for past an hour when I asked her why she was off today. She said she wasn't. (she took care of a 6,5, and NEWBORN) I asked her where the baby was and she told me THE FRONT PORCH. :scared1:

I ran outside and there is the stroller, covered in snow. She goes on to explain that the cold is good for the baby and it really wasn't that cold by Norwegian standards. :scared1:

The baby was fine. I bet these parents thought it was better not to wake her.

So, here's another question--why did it take so long for any passerby to realize there was a child UNATTENDED sitting in a stroller in the hot sun? Now, granted, most people are in their own world when at WDW, but why did no one notice the little girl? I was a CPS worker for 11 years, and maybe I just notice kids more and if they appear to be alone.

You'd be amazed at how stupid (not ignorant, not accidental) some parents can be; we used to wish there was a General Stupidity category on the state data sheets to log the neglect code under...:sad2: Pitiful, those poor kids. I hope the relatives take better care of them.

We saw a similar situation in line for Philharmagic a few years back right when it opened and had long lines. We waited outside in line for like 15 minutes when a family behind us started arguing aming themselves. Mom: where's so and so, Dad: I thought you had her, Mom: no, you did, etc. Finally dad jumps the rope and finds DD hysterical, beet red and sweaty in the stroller baking in the sun. Again, stupid people shouldn't be allowd to have children. Oh yeah, these folks only had one other child.

You do a have a point. We used to have lots of reports come in on Mexican families (no bias, just stating what happened) leaving children alone starting at age 5, while the parents went to work. They always said it was customary in their country to do so, even to allow them to watch a younger sibling.

This is what I was thinking also...it might be a cultural thing...but still very horrible for the baby.

:sad2: Let the girl ride POTC too! Why would people even think of leaving them alone while on a ride?

This is what I was thinking also...it might be a cultural thing...but still very horrible for the baby.

That cultural thing gets thrown around WAY too much. I don't care if it is a cultural thing, not leaving a child unattended in the blazing sun is a common sense thing.

"When they entered the attraction, Juan Carlos thought Danette had their daughter, while Danette thought Juan Carlos had her. Shortly after, Juan Carlos went back outside to move the stroller to a designated area, but failed to see the little girl, he told deputies.

The parents only realized their daughter was missing when they exited the ride. "

How is it that they realized she was missing, he went to move the stroller, supposedly didn't find it but decided it was better to hop back in line and ride POTC? I'm guessing it was more a case of the girl was sleeping in the stroller, nobody wanted to wake her up or carry her and nobody wanted to sit outside with her and miss the ride. Something like this infuriates me and saddens me at the same time. As far as nobody else noticing that she was alone... most people put on blinders and/or assume that the parents are right around the corner. And I personally would be somewhat hesitant to approach a child because you don't know how the parents (that should be near) will react - you don't know if they'll think that you are trying to harm their child, take them or something like that.

Thank goodness that that little girl got the care she needed before it was too late.

Wow! :scared1: DH and I were so anal about watching out for our 2 girls when we went down in March. We each made sure to keep an eye and hand on both kids. How someone could "forget" a kid is beyond me. :confused3

We also didn't take our girls on POTC either....we went with friends and we "adult swapped." The moms watched the kids so the Dads could go on, and then the Dads watched the kids so the Moms could go on. The kids got many rides on the Magic Carpet of Aladdin during that time.

DH and I also used child swap when we took our DD in September. Very easy to use!

It's not 50 minutes its two hours... that's what doesn't add up. The paramedics stated the child was out there for probably around and hour and 50 mintues late the parents show up????

Not only is this horrific in the sense that they left her out in the heat that long, but how easy would it have been for someone to just stroll by, pick her up, and leave the park with her? Plus, as others have said (1) I'm sure it's not that easy to "lose" a stroller and (2) at some point on the ride, don't you think you would want to look at your child's face to see how much fun they are having? Those parents should have all of their children taken away from them and never be able to get them back. There are so many couples who try to have children and cannot and people like this are blessed with four and can't/don't/won't even take care of them. I hope the state child protection agency can find a better home for those children.

All I can say is that I'm very glad that the daughter is going to be fine..the parents on the other hand are just morons regardless of their cultural background...

I try not to judge other parents, but, REALLY?!?! Cultural differences aside, you NEVER leave a child unattended in a public place. Not to mention the Florida heat!

This family is very lucky.

This story is so disturbing. I could not imagine, what could possibly make them leave the little girl out in the sun like that. They should not have been allowed bail, and deserve to have the book thrown at them for such behavior. They are liars, there is no way you don't know where your child is when your are in WDW. Further more, they should strap them into some sort of chair and put them in the hot sun.
The things that some people do is just amazing.

Come on, all you parents out there, How many times do you look around during your day at WDW and make sure you have all your kids? thousands!

They are liars! I find that story unbelievable.

Sad :sad2:
