Aulani luau lawn construction?

Anyone know what is going on with the luau lawn? They're cutting down at least one tree and have taken up all the grass.

Yes - they had the luau the first 3 nights we were here and then yesterday it was ripped up. Today they are digging up the concrete under the grass.

Looks like it's coming back on October 1. So I guess this is maintenance for the area or maybe some underground infrastructure.

Agree with Jimmy above. It’s probably just regular maintenance and some improvements perhaps

Is the construction noisy? We have an island view studio booked in September and I am considering changing my room request to not face the lawn.

Could be as simple as replacing the turf, it looks kind of shabby in the first picture.

I think in a residential setting, artificial turf needs to be replaced every 10 years or so. Even more so with the abuse that lawn is put through every week.

I can't tell from the photo, but it's probably not actually concrete. A compacted gravel road base is usually the base layer that goes down over the natural ground soil/dirt. Then a shock pad of some sort. Then the artificial turf. From afar, it could be mistaken for concrete because they pack the crap out of it.
