We are painting our den in a few weeks * I cannot decide on the color. Currently off white with brown trim, brown door, brown closet (think 1970's UGLY). We have a blue couch, beige recliner, chestnut wood toy shelf. We use it as a hang out TV room & playroom for my girls. It is not a big room. The room is located at the end of a hallway that is painted beige with white trim. The opposite end of the hallway is a kitchen that has the same beige with white trim.

I would like the den to be warm & inviting & cozy. We are planning to paint the trim white, but I don't know what color to go with for the den. I like my beige hallway & kitchen, but I can't deal with anymore beige!

Thoughts?

I like warm and cozy but not sure what that would look like

What color blue? Dark, light, navy, robin's egg......

Is the blue couch staying? Here are a couple of soft colors to brighten up a room: Blue Hubbard, Sherwin Williams and Sea Salt, Sherwin Williams

With that couch, it may be a bit more difficult to bring in a "color" other than beige, gray, etc.

Thanks-thats what I was afraid of. The couch is actually not a bad looking couch......& its SO unbelievably comfy, its a recliner couch, I just cannot part with it. Do you think I could get away with at least a darker shade of beige?

I would do a dark red, burnt orange or a golden yellow if you want the room to feel warm.

I have a chair similar in color in my family room and my walls are a light green.

Personally, I'd hate to see a dark paint color and dark furniture. If the walls were light and bright, you could bring the room together with window treatments, pillows, wall accents, area rug, etc. to warm it up.

Dark on dark will make the room feel like it's closing in on you and without having any definition. Try to open that space up a bit.

Perhaps you could make one wall an accent color with a bright, bold color instead of all 4 walls....

I'm almost finished painting my place, I did beige with white trims. In the kitchen I did a burnt orange or terra cotta color. I was scared it would be too orange but I love it. Mind you there's only the wall area above the back splash not big walls seen.
I like the idea of just doing one wall in an accent color.
I really like the blue wall color in post 7.

Ooh I really like that too! That 3rd solid color (to the left of the coral) is very close to the color of my couch. What color would you do the walls if you used this palette for the couch & curtains?

I'd probably pick the beige-gold color on the right for the walls since its kind of like a neutral. Its still beige but you could liven things up with pillows, curtains and accessories.

Two more questions. What kind of light does the room get? Morning? All day? Late afternoon?
What color is the floor/carpet?

White Dove (Benjamin Moore) trim.

Walls:
Darker Beige: Latte (Sherwin Williams)
Lighter Beige: Macadamia (SW)
Gray: Coventry Gray (BM)
Blue: Nantucket Fog (BM)
Yellow: Lemon Sorbet (BM)

Take your pick.
